Glorious days! Today I will talk about the subject of “Erasmus visa” in particular. I am writing from Erasmus, Brescia, Italy So no one knows better than me how to get an erasmus visa, because neither can I. I got it and I tried hard.
Also, include my experiences in more than 50 countries around the world Now I’m starting to explain the Erasmus visa that those going to Erasmus should get.

Which Visa Type for Erasmus
First of all, I in this article, I will generally base the Schengen visa. Because with a few exceptions like Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia, you need to get a Schengen visa for Erasmus.. Also, I will not go into technical issues too much because my Schengen visa application letter is here and it is valid. You can consider this article as additional information for Erasmus.
While we get a visa for Erasmus, we will of course not take standard touristic visas.. So we have to be careful with visa type business. In Schengen, they call long-term visas type D in general.. Also, these visas are called national visas.

Which Visa for Erasmus Internship
There is no visa application method that changes according to the program when going to Erasmus.
Based on the time you will stay there (probably more than 90 days), You need to apply for a D type Schengen visa over 90 days. There will be a separation according to the student exchange with the documents requested from you during the application anyway.
Erasmus Visa Dates
One of the most frequently asked questions is when is the right time to apply for an Erasmus visa?. It is now possible to apply for a visa up to 6 months ago with the changing Schengen rules as of 2020.
My advice is to apply as soon as you have your documents ready! Because this process can take up to 1 month to collect documents, make an appointment and apply.. Make your visa application at the latest 2 months before…

Required Documents for Erasmus Visa
Actually, the required documents for all visas are almost the same. The documents I mentioned in my Schengen visa article are in the same parallel.. I explained it in more detail in that article. However, there are some additional document requests for Erasmus!
- Letter of Acceptance from the University (original)
- Document showing the place of stay
- Financial Guarantees (sponsorship or bank) account)
- Certificate from the School that You Will Get a Grant
When you include these four basic documents in your application, you have already collected the most difficult documents Even the most important thing I can say acceptance letter.. After all, that acceptance letter is of ultra importance for the consulate as it is a call given by an official institution of that country.

Erasmus Visa Sponsor Petition Example
Since there are students like us who will go to Erasmus we need to show our parents as sponsors in the visa application. This is not mandatory, but it would be great!
“How are we going to write this petition, Görkem, do we need a notary public or something?
No, only one is needed. an a4 paper with a ballpoint pen and your mother or father I think you know how to write a petition…Here, have your family write something like this in their own handwriting and have them sign it, okay
“To the …..consulate”
“……passport number….named….my son/daughter….. will be present in the…..erasmus program between…… I undertake that all the expenses there will be covered by me, my best regards.”

Do Erasmus Students Pay Visa Fee?
Unfortunately, I paid a fee of nearly 500 lira for the application.. Because Italy was charging fees for visas with a stay of more than 90 days, even if it was Erasmus.. But this also varied from country to country.
But as of 2021, according to the changing Schengen rules, the visa fee has now been lifted for the visas obtained for educational purposes. You may only have to pay the application and a few basic fees, but the visa fee may be required.
Update 2021: This rule, previously adopted by the EU parliament due to the coronavirus pandemic, has not been implemented for now.. Students who will go to Erasmus have to pay a visa fee in the range of 60-80 euros when obtaining a visa.

I Have a Green Passport Can I Get an Erasmus Visa?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions to me!
Green passport gives you a tourist visa….So green passport does not give you a student or work permit.. Even if there is someone who goes this way, they have definitely done something illegal and without official validity.
Even if you have a green passport, you will apply for a Schengen visa for Erasmus with that passport!

Erasmus Visa Refusal
I know that applying for a visa creates all kinds of stress for people
But don’t be afraid, if you have submitted your documents correctly, you will get your visa 99.9 percent.. Because, as I said above, you have been accepted from an official institution from a European Union supported project, this is one of the most valid reasons for obtaining a long-term visa.
You should only pay attention to the issue of material guarantees.. Especially Italy unfortunately asked me to show a certain amount in the bank.. That’s why you should be able to show at least a small amount of money in the bank.

Do I Need to Get a Residence Permit?
I guess this is special for Italy Some Schengen Erasmus countries stay longer than 90 days may require you to obtain a residence permit.. In such a case, after getting your visa, you apply for a residence permit to official institutions within the first 7 days of entering the country.
Your school will inform you about this.. If anyone is going to Italy, they can ask me privately in the comment section.. I share all my experiences about applying to Permesso di Soggiorno.

In addition to what I wrote, I wanted to make an update for those who will receive an Erasmus visa in the coronavirus covid-19 pandemic.. The existing procedures in this period continue as they are.. But you should get your work done quickly beforehand and you should be after it.
