We set our trip this year to Indonesia, Malaysia and then Cambodia. We fly from Kuala Lumpur directly to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.. From here by bus to Siem Reap. Our journey took about 6 hours. The bus was just like our intercity buses, we had a very comfortable journey.. We were taken down on the street in Siem Reap. We had no choice but to take the tuk-tuks in front of the agency.. Our tuktuk player got so hot that we asked him to pick us up from the hotel tomorrow morning and take us to the Angkor Wat temples. We agreed with the driver for $15 for Angkor Wat. The hotel we pre-arranged from Booking is in the Old Market area.. Since we could not find a decent place to eat on the road for 6 hours, we immediately rushed to Pub Street.. We entered a restaurant called Red Piano at the corner of the street.. Food and drinks were all good.. This was the most crowded restaurant of the street.. We stayed in Siem Reap for 2 nights and ate our dinners here for 2 days.. The most famous drink of the restaurant is Tomb Raider.
Our morning driver Kong arrived within a minute of our contracted time.. We are going to Angkor, the 8th Wonder of the World, with great excitement.. Located 5.5 km north of the city, this temple was included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1992.. Right at the entrance of the temple, we stand in line to buy tickets, they take our picture and print the ticket instantly.. Daily ticket $20. Tickets are sold in combinations of 1 day, 3 days and 1 week.. Officers want you to show these tickets at every entrance to the temple, so don’t lose them.. We still keep the tickets as a souvenir. Kong took us to all the temples in order. Angkor Wat, Bayon, Preah Khan, Chau Say Tevoda Temple, Thommanon, Ta Phrom, Banteay Kdei.
Bayon: Angkor Wat’ It is the second known temple after. Faces carved on rocks show the beauty of Khmer art. This rock-cut face is the face of the King.
ANGKOR WAT
BAYON
PREAH KHAN
Ta Phrom : This is the Buddhist temple Dedicated to the mother of King Jayavarman VII. The walls of the temple were destroyed by the roots of the trees.. This tree, which destroyed the temple, is also called the Tom Raider tree. This temple is where the Lara Croft Tom Raider movie was shot.
TA PHROM
We recommend that you visit the temples gradually until you examine the smallest details. Especially examine the figures, reliefs and carvings on the temple stones.
CHAU SAY TEVODA TEMPLE
After visiting all these temples, we decided to go watch the sunset, but it rained and it was as if the sky and earth became one.. It was raining like it was uprooting trees. Even a tree was broken so the road was closed. We did not have the opportunity to watch the sunset because of the rain.. Then we said, let’s get on the balloon, watch the temples from above and take pictures, of course, the weather conditions prevented us from getting on it.. The rain had just stopped when we reached the city.. He was very surprised when he asked Kong where we could eat snakes.. He said we can find it in restaurants 5-10 km outside of the city.. When we asked him how much he wanted to take us, he said whatever you give.. I think the idea of eating a snake is very good.. We have seen the local people more closely.. We probably went to 5-6 places and none of them had snakes.. I was stubborn, I will find and eat this snake, I just gave up, we said we should ask the last restaurant or we will return.. Luck is here. All the restaurants in this region are built on the water, it turns out that they hold the snakes from where they sit and cook and eat them at the same time.. Since the waters receded at the time we went, there weren’t many snakes coming out.. They said there were 3 snakes, is it enough, so it is enough of course. I don’t know the taste and if I don’t like it it will be a shame for the animals. Orkun is of course prejudiced, now they can cook chicken instead of snakes, let me go to the kitchen and see how it is done.. Before he had a chance to leave, the men brought the snake I was going to eat.. They gave it to me to see how you like it.. I took it in my hand and put these feelings in the man’s hand when the question came to my mind at a different moment, would the animal understand that I was going to eat it? We had a full comedy.
Finally, my snake, which I was waiting for, was cooked beautifully and came in front of me with lemon grass decorations.. Just as its appearance was magnificent, its taste was also delicious.
To be honest, I had a bit of a hard time eating the bone marrow. Because it is a snake, it is necessary to insert the lower teeth into the rib of the snake and pull the meat upwards and eat it.. Kong worked hard to teach, but what should I do now that I ate.
If you email our driver Kong before you go, he will help you there ([email protected]). To remind us, he’ll remember if you say you ate snakes together
As we arrived at the hotel in the evening, we asked them to arrange a bus for us to go to Bangkok in the morning.. They suggested that we go by minibus since there was no place on the buses.. They took 14 people in the 9-person minibus, the suitcases are under our feet, we played miserables for 7 hours along the way.. We got off the minibus in Thailand and went to the building where passport processing was done.. After waiting in the queue for 45 minutes, we took care of our transactions.. Then they provided us with a transfer to another minibus, but the incoming calls were made.. This time, as if the suitcases under our feet weren’t enough, it was full of suitcases up to the ceiling.. On top of that, they took 2 colts on the road as if there was a lot of space.. A journey to the bottom with the guys at hand was a nightmare. We are finally in Bangkok, we are happy
Accommodation : We stayed at Cheathata Angkor Hotel. It was $20 per person per night including breakfast. 5 minutes walking distance to Pub street, rooms were spacious and very clean.
Best time to go: November to February
