Sri Lanka vacation is getting more and more popular every day, so the first question on the minds of those planning this trip is the cost of the vacation.. Since I received a lot of questions about the subject, I wrote where we spent and how much we spent, so that I wouldn’t give rounded information like “I think we spent more or less this much” each time, and I gave my comments for topics that might be cheaper/expensive.. Thus, I have prepared the Sri Lanka holiday prices article, which I hope will answer all your questions by adding the entrance fees of the most well-known places to visit in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka Vacation Prices: Entrance Fees
See tourist attractions first Let’s start with the entrance fees. If you want to not only see Sri Lanka as a sea-sun holiday, but also get to know its culture – and I think you should – this will be the part that will take the most place in your travel budget, unfortunately.. In the face of ticket prices created with the mindset of “However, only tourists come, they are rich”, be prepared to pay such high entrance fees that you will rarely pay in such a cheap country in your life
I wrote down some must-see attractions in order of importance in my opinion, and indicated their prices.. Children up to the age of 5 are free and between the ages of 5 and 12 are 50 percent off.. They generally do not accept payment by credit or debit card.. I think you should have a dollar in your pocket ready for rupee and check the current dollar rate and check whether it would be advantageous to pay with dollars or Sri Lankan rupees, prices are written in both dollars and rupees at the entrance You can check the current rate here.
The entrance to Sigiriya Rock, one of the must-see places, is unfortunately 30 dollars per person.
I marked the things we did with an asterisk (*), we didn’t do the things we didn’t do because we either found an alternative or couldn’t keep up with the route, otherwise I’m sure they are good too Prices -unfortunately- per person.
Entry Fees in Sri Lanka
- *Ancient City of Sigiriya (Sigiriya rock and ancient city): 30 dollars
- *Ancient City of Polonnaruwa: $25
- A ncient City of Anuradhapura: $25
It is enough to visit one that fits your route from Polonnaruwa or Anuradhapura.
Due to the high entrance fees, you only need to see one of the ancient cities of Polonnaruwa or Anuradhapura.
- *Kandy Temple of Tooth Relic: $15
- Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage (Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage): $20 – Elephant safari elsewhere (not just watching elephants; It can be skipped if the safari, which includes riding the net, has been done.
- *Minneriya National Park: $15
- *Dambulla Cave Temples (Dambulla Cave Temple): 10 dollars – If the budget is very tight, go here and can only be seen from the outside without buying a ticket.
- *Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens: $15
- Mihinthale, Anuradhapura: $10
- Yala National Park: $25
You can observe the importance of Buddhism to the local people at the temple of the tooth in Kandy.
It was an unexpected bad surprise that the prices were so high, wasn’t it? At least that’s what happened to us; For example, if you want to climb a Sigiriya Rock, you can’t actually enter a place where they take the ‘entrance’ fee, so it’s an open-air natural formation that we know, and it’s impossible not to go out after all, 60 dollars for two people has already flown out of pocket
Sri Lanka Activity Prices
Sri Lanka In addition to the places I have listed above, there are also things to do, namely activities.. The options in this section are open-ended, and if their prices are not listed as a list, they can be negotiated.. Among the things that will answer the question of What to do in Sri Lanka, I write what I know and think is the most important, together with how much we pay ‘per person’, please note the price information to avoid getting ripped off.. Or if you do the same for less, write me ‘you’re screwed’ No, don’t write, it’s done, just write it in the comments section and warn the next friends who will go next.
The local dance show in Kandy is a popular activity.
Here now prices are in local currency, namely Sri Lankan rupee, instead of dollars , you can find the dollar equivalent by dividing the average by 150. I’ll write it in parentheses so that something approximate can still be found I don’t enter TL at all, as you know, the exchange rates are not very stable.. I recommend you to go to Sri Lanka with dollars anyway, TL or other foreign currencies are not widely used.
Sri Lanka Activity Prices:
- Kandy Dance Show: 1000 rupee ($7)
- Elephant Riding & Poo Factory (File Riding and Stool Factory): 1000 rupees ($7). It’s customary to tip the guy who helps you get on the elephant, on behalf of your group, of at least 200 rupees.. I was very curious about the Poo Factory, that is, the factories where paper is made from elephant dung, and I found it very interesting, instead of the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage I mentioned above, this option appealed to me.. The place I went to was called the Millennium Elephant Foundation, but there are other elephant farms, whichever fits your route.
- Nature Village Safari: 2000 rupees (14 dollars) (negotiable to death!)
These colorful cute papers are made from elephant dung .
We can say that a village safari is a must in Kandy to watch a dance show, ride an elephant and observe local life.. Yes, the village safari includes a fake village created for touristic purposes, but I found it worth seeing because it gave information about the local life.
We did two more activities in Bentota on our route. , similar expenses may be in other coastal areas (prices are still per person).
- Bentota Sea Turtle Project: 500 rupee ( $4). The park, where the sea turtles, which were taken under protection so that they would not be extinct, were protected, was very cute.
Sri Lanka’s destination for those who want to try water sports they may prefer the south coast.
- Tube Ride & 5 Min Jet Ski: 2000 rupee ($14). A fun water sport (I don’t know if there is a Turkish name, I don’t know) where a boat pulls you around while you’re sitting on something like a life buoy, and getting on a jet ski with an instructor for 5 minutes.

Transportation in Sri Lanka
With driver for the entire trip we traveled (Sri Lanka cannot be visited without a driver in my opinion, the driver is very, very important). Hotels in Sri Lanka
We stayed in average hotels, we didn’t book a hotel with a pool because we didn’t go during the season. If you want a hotel with a pool, accommodation prices may increase and if you remove the criterion of “get a hotel with a high customer evaluation score”, the price may decrease (but not recommended ). Food and Drink in Sri Lanka
We ate in average places, tasted local food, but we did not hang out completely local for all meals, we gravitated towards fast food style meals.. If you want to eat Sri Lankan food where the locals eat, meal costs may be deducted. But it is also worth remembering that the locals eat with their hands and they are not bothered by flies (they live together with flies and insects in terms of both food and hotel).. Don’t regret it like a stew of cheap meat later
Sri Lankan food with the general name Rice & Curry is delicious, but I do not care about hygiene a little bit. I found it poor.
Souvenir Prices in Sri Lanka
What to buy in Sri Lanka is my answer We spent a lot of money on the Spice Garden trip, apart from small things like a t-shirt key chain magnet and Ceylon tea in the shopping section, as there are herbal oils and medicines for. I found it worth trying panacea solutions such as depilatory cream, asthma medicine, hair care oil, but those who do not want to enter them can reduce their expenses in the shopping part.. Bargaining is key when shopping in Sri Lanka, bid 40 percent less than quoted price. Sri Lanka tea prices, on the other hand, can be thought of as small gift packages starting from 3-4 dollars.
