I was looking for places to go for the last month of Erasmus; According to all my accounts, the total left for me to travel was 150 Euros.. With this money, I would buy tickets, find hostels and put enough pocket money in my wallet to travel for three days.. I opened Easyjet, my only friend of those days, and found two cities to buy cheap tickets.. One in Barcelona, the other in Amsterdam. I handled the ticket business with the campaign, but when I gathered the entrance prices of the museums I wanted to see, the situation was not so bright.. So I chose the route that would be a little more convenient and did the ticketing from Barcelona.
This is how our story, which could not intersect with Amsterdam, started 5 years ago.. From that day on, nothing has changed, of course Amsterdam has not gotten cheaper at all, it has become more expensive.. As you know; It is a very popular city in Turkey and a little far from our country.. Therefore, ticket prices are generally not very cheap.. In addition, the museum is always impressive with its high entrance prices that will develop the whole continent.. However, there is a fact that this is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.. Every corner is full of paintings, culture and arts, if I take the “first thing” that comes to mind, it leads the list of the most modern, freest and most developed cities in the world.. Another beauty of Amsterdam is that this modernity and freedom never goes without words, making you feel it every time you step on its streets.. That’s why it should definitely be seen, and if possible, experienced at the same time while walking.
We have come this far, wanting to see this place in its greenest form in summer, every time we try to buy tickets for the last five years.. Then I suddenly found myself in Amsterdam in February because of an itinerary of my company Forbo Flooring Systems.. Apart from the program, I had exactly 24 hours in the city and I prepared a very full street route for myself by saying strength to the grassroots.. I proudly present my list of ‘Must-See Places in Amsterdam’, which will delight the eyes and cameras of those who are short of time..
‘I prepared this list among the places I saw while walking the city in 24 hours. Let’s say you have 1 or 2 days in Amsterdam and you don’t want to miss any corner of the city; then this list with lots of walking is just for you! For comprehensive travel articles that will include museums, historical places and cafe recommendations, wait for our second edition trip in March!’
List of Must-See Places in Amsterdam
#1 Colorful Flower Market Bloemenmarkt:
Nobody knows that Amsterdam is famous for its tulips; For years, issues such as did they take the tulip away from us first, which country is known for its tulip, have been on the agenda at certain intervals for years.. Bloemenmarkt, the city’s canal-view flower market, is among the places to visit to see not only the colorful tulips but all the variety of flowers in Amsterdam, as well as to experience a beautiful view from the paint palette.
Although it is mentioned as the world’s only flower market on water in the sources, it is not a floating market; Let’s say benches lined up on fixed terraces built on water. The flower market, which has hosted thousands of people every day since the 1800s, is a touristic spot, but it is very crowded at some hours.. So it’s a good idea to go early in the morning.. After visiting all the stalls that please your eyes, don’t forget to follow the fragrant scents and eat the Stroopwaffles, which are sold for 2 Euros.. They are beautiful when fresh!
#2 Frequently Featured on Instagram Pluk:
On Instagram with her huge cakes, strawberry pies and fluffy pancakes Pluk is one of the most famous cafes in Amsterdam.. In addition to healthy alternatives, housewares and accessories suitable for the concept are also sold in the venue.. There are plenty of customers in the morning and at noon; however, it is not a bad idea to take a coffee break here and take a breather for a few minutes during your walking route in the city.. I especially liked the products in the kitchen category; I recommend you to stop by at least to see the environment.
#3 Groenburgwal, Where Raamgracht Confluences with Amstel River:
A must go while strolling the streets of Amsterdam Staalstraat is a necessary point.. While walking here, when you arrive at the Groenburgwal canal where the Raamgracht canal meets the Amstel River, look towards the Zuiderkerk Church.. 17. The 17th-century Protestant church, centered on the canal view, today offers one of the city’s most postcard views.. It is not a place found by chance, moreover; This landscape was painted 13 times by the French impressionist Caude Monet.. Monet; In order to reflect this view on his paintings, he would stop at this exact point of the canal.. Well, your address is certain to follow in Monet’s footsteps.. And if you happen to pass by here during the spring months when the trees around the canal are green, you’re out of luck!
#4 Damrak with Canal View Cookie Houses:
As you walk from Amsterdam Centraal train station to Dam Square, the center of the city, you also pass by Damrak Street.. Damrak, once the commercial center, is one of the most touristic spots in the city with its cafes and shops, and the Damrak Canal is the most preferred starting point for canal tours due to its central location.. None of these is the reason why I have included Damrak in this list with all its tourist attractions..
From this Cool houses built by the wealthy of Amsterdam years ago offer the most interesting views of the city today; unfortunately, because the piles under the houses could not withstand the volatile structure of the swamp, they bent over time and went into the water a little bit.. These elongated houses, which you can easily see from the opposite side of the canal, are called Dancing House.. Although it is a candidate to spoil the eyes and excite astigmatism with its slightly inclined windows and structures that seem as if they will slide a little more at any moment, it should definitely be on the list of things to see with its architecture that is the symbol of all the souvenirs of the city.
#5 Breathtaking Vondelpark with its Greenery:
Van Gogh, Rijk and Stedelijk museums, 10 minutes’ walk from the Museumplein, Vondelpark is a completely different world after the canal-filled streets of Amsterdam.. Vondelpark, the largest park not only in the city but also in the Netherlands, welcomes over 10 million visitors every year.. Even on cold winter days, the park is always full of guests and chirping. Some are running, some are feeding the birds, some are playing with their dogs, and some are training with their bikes.. One of the most beautiful things to do in this park, which welcomes you at the entrance, is its lush nature, its lake with birds and ducks, and makes you feel a little jealous; Enjoy the sunny Sunday morning, jump on your bike and ride here like an Amsterdammer! Actually, I thought, it’s also very attractive to have a picnic on the lawn with snacks from the grocery store.
#6 Reguliersgracht with Seven Bridges:
165 canals in Amsterdam and more bridges than Venice I had read before I went; Of course, it is not possible to see them all.. But there are some that should never be overlooked.. One of them is the Reguliersgracht canal.. When you stand where Reguliersgracht cuts Herengracht, you can see 7 bridges over the canal in a row.. This is already known as the 7 Bridges (Seven Bridges) channel.. Another beauty of Reguliersgracht is the nostalgic atmosphere that it gains thanks to its arched bridge structure.
#7 Jordaan, famous for its markets:
17. The Jordaan district, where the working class and immigrants lived with limited opportunities in the 19th century, has undergone a great change since the 1920s.. The district, which was restructured by the government’s decision after the 70’s, is a popular district where students, artists and white collars live today.
As it stands, there is no trace of its old times economically either.. The once depressed, literally ‘poor’ district is now one of the city’s upscale districts.. Jordaan is famous for its markets as well as its colorful concept cafes.. It can be said that Noordermarkt carries the flag with its second-hand product and organic food markets, especially on Mondays and Saturdays.. While in Jordaan, don’t forget to stop by the Brouwersgracht canal with plenty of bikes.
#8 Our Peaceful Florist Wildernis at Bilderdijkstraat:
What I saw and sighed on Instagram Wildernis is one of the Amsterdam venues.. This is actually a florist, if you go, don’t forget to order freshly brewed herbal teas (2 Euros) and relax at the common table.. In Wildernis, notebooks and books suitable for the concept are also sold, as well as plant varieties that you would like to bring home.. Don’t forget to take a look! The place also has wifi..
#9 Anne Prinsengracht with Frank’s House:
Anne Frank’s House museum Among the top three places I want to see in Amsterdam, the first trip is purely walking on the street After he was in his coma, I still wanted to go and see where he was.. Glad I went! The Prinsengracht canal, on which the museum is located, is one of the three main canals of Amsterdam under UNESCO protection.. In addition to its wonderful view, you can also see Papeneiland, one of the city’s most popular cafes, here.
#10 And of course, the Rijkmuseum in the Museum Quarter:
architecturally eye-catching at the Museumplein dazzling Rijkmuseum, the Netherlands’ national museum of art and history. If we take aside the extensive archive of Dutch artists, the Rijkmuseum, which is adjacent to the Van Gogh and Stedelijk museums, is one of the symbols of Amsterdam in terms of architecture.. In front of every visitor, there is a pose in or on the letters, and even the inscription I Amsterdam, which is proof of coming to Amsterdam, is located right in front of the Rijkmuseum.. In winter, an ice rink is set up opposite this article, and this museum, which was opened in 1885 together with the rink, creates one of the most beautiful views of Amsterdam.
