We have 2 options at our hotel in KAKSLAUTTANEN in
Saarielska; Anyone can stay in the igloos in the ice hotel section.. Me and my wife were determined to stay at the ice hotel.. However, after seeing the igloos, my vote was definitely in favor of igloos. You can choose hotels such as Kakslauttanen Igloo West Village or City Hotel to have nice experiences during your Lapland trip.. consists of rows of rooms carved into ice.. Even the beds are made of ice, but there is not a single window to the outside.. Candles are burning in front of each one’s door. The bed is covered with deer skins.. You sleep with a sleeping bag but it’s still hard. According to our guide, one person stayed here in the previous tour, his nose, the only exposed place, was frozen.
Igloos are magnificent.. Semicircular and round top, all glass. The glasses are divided by metals in the form of parallel-meridian. There is a glass heated system in the rooms.. Therefore, the falling snow does not accumulate on the glass and melts instantly.. It is an excellent feeling to watch the moon and stars, especially the northern lights, from where you lie down.
You can adjust the temperature of the room as you wish.. It’s like you’re inside a hemispherical glass dome.. The room is warm inside, but outside – 38 degrees and snow white everywhere. The beds are also remote controlled, you can raise the head of the bed at any angle you want.. All night long the moon was above us, just shifting. We have never heard the sound of birds, I think the bird cannot survive in this cold.
Iglo villages are made up of about 20-25 houses in 4 rows, that is, lanterns.. The scenery that emerges when the night lights of these lanterns, each of which is independent of each other, are wonderful.. It’s like gigantic light bulbs illuminating the snow-covered forest…
The next morning we went to the restaurant for breakfast with the sound of “gritty” footsteps.. We visited ice hotels and ice church on the way to the restaurant. Some of the ice hotels and ice restaurant collapsed about a week before we got here.. There was intense restoration work.
The ice church itself and everything in it are made of ice.. Only the door is wooden and there are deer antlers on the door handles. The outside of the church was filled with reliefs made on ice.. Some parts were still being repaired.. Inside the church, the prayer table, pews, vase, sanctuary, etc., everything is made of ice.. Alone, from the door to the prayer table, deer skins are lined up on the floor.
The artists who made the reliefs work from early in the morning until late at night.. It was quite enjoyable to watch their artworks on the ice.
The markings on the toilet doors made of wood logs around the church were very interesting.. They painted a double breast on the women’s door and a penis on the men’s door.. I have never seen such a toilet emblem anywhere in the world.
Every year, ice hotels, ice churches, ice restaurants, that is, everything made of ice is demolished towards summer and rebuilt towards winter.
Environmentalism in this country fully seated. very little car. Transportation is mostly done by sled, snowmobile and skis.. That’s why it’s very quiet, there is no bird sound, the only sound that accompanies you is the creak of snow…
We entered the Finn Sauna after breakfast.. There is about 15-20 steps between the locker room, sauna and cold pool.. Finns undress completely in this cold, first enter the sauna and then the cold pool.. Of course, we first threw ourselves into the sauna by running that 15-20 step path at -30 degrees with our swimsuits.. It was a little too much to enter the ice water after the sauna.. After taking our shower, we preferred to enjoy ourselves by the fireplace instead of having a glass of drink in the small ice bar at the exit of the sauna.
We took the minibus that was waiting for us and set off for the Sami museum.. We reached the Sami museum after about 2 – 2.5 hours of travel.. Along the way, we witnessed beautiful scenery as we passed through frozen rivers and lakes.. During our journey, the round white moon accompanied us again.. Here the moon does not disappear 24 hours a day. Along the way we saw geysers in the frozen lake.. Interestingly, there is ice everywhere, but boiling water and steam are gushing out of this cold.
Finally, we came to the SIIDA MUSEUM, which exhibits all the lives of the Semites.. This museum is also an interesting museum worth seeing. The Sami make their living by fishing and reindeer.. Norway, Russia, Sweden, Finland Where Lapps have lived throughout history. Unfortunately, the Semitic race has declined a lot now.
This trip was definitely an unforgettable experience for us.
