Older Child Edvard

Edvard lives in the Sierra Nevada mountain region of Colombia. There is no electricity, phone signal or internet in this area. To go to school, he has to walk for an average of 1.5 hours on the mountain road. If it’s not raining, it comes back home in the evening, if it rains, it stays in the houses near the school.

Edvard He always helps his family. He collects wood from the forest and brings home the wood his father cut. She takes her 1- and 4-year-old siblings to the creek, watches over them, and sometimes washes them. While her parents are not at home, she is still taking care of her siblings and feeding them. She is washing the dirty laundry to help her mother. He takes the horses to the stream, makes them drink water, and takes care of them. It happens that he goes to collect food from the forest. If there is a snake around their house, it can kill it even if it is as big as its size. She also knows how to knit bags, but she doesn’t do it because men don’t knit bags. He takes the cows left and right for grazing. Since the water needs of the house are met from the stream, it returns to every stream with a small full container. In his spare time, he also plays with his siblings, goes to the creek and swims. He doesn’t know what it’s like to be tired. There is no “tired” or “I can’t” in his vocabulary.
