Budapest Travel Notes: Welcome to Central Europe!

Budapest always has a special place for me. Every time I go to this city, I catch a different atmosphere and find myself again, but the excitement of my first visit is something else..

Today I will tell you about Hungary and its capital Budapest. Together with all my experiences in this place where I have witnessed all seasons, I will remember the moments I visited for the first time and introduce you to the beauty of Budapest under the snow, come with me!

In my Budapest travel guide While reading my adventure in Budapest, you will be able to discover the attractions of Budapest with all its magic

On the way to Budapest / Sabiha Gökçen Airport

How to Get to Budapest ?

Wednesday, January 29. I start the day early. Today I will travel to the heart of Central Europe. My plane takes off from Sabiha Gökçen Airport. Without wasting time, I take my bag and set off.

After routine checks, our plane seemed far away! Today I will use Hungarian Airline Wizz Air.. This is the most logical and convenient option you can use on the Istanbul – Budapest route.. But they no longer organize flights.

To reach Budapest in the first days of 2021, you should use the direct flights of THY and Pegasus.. I can’t say they’re too expensive, anyway, we won’t go a long way. Apart from that, it is possible to reach Budapest and Hungary by railway from our country, you should first proceed as Sofia from Istanbul and then Belgrade.

The weather is rainy in Istanbul, it is colder in Budapest. a weather expected. Our flight takes off at 9.50 as scheduled.. Today the distance I will travel is approximately 1100 kilometers to the northwest. If we look at it from another point of view, it is approximately from Istanbul to Erzurum.. Budapest is closer than you think.

From the Plane When Landing in Budapest

Where is Hungary?

First of all, I would like to give information about Budapest and Hungary. Hungary is a small country in Central Europe.. Its population is around 10 million and their language is Hungarian.

Hungarians, who have had powerful states throughout history,. After World War II, it lost its lands to a large extent and. With World War II, it was under Russian Influence for a certain period of time. In this period, Communism was adopted in the country that was in cooperation with the Eastern Bloc Countries.. With the various revolutions and the collapse of Soviet Russia, the present-day Republic of Hungary was established in 1989.

Hungary also has a common history with Turkey.. They also come from the Huns. Hungary’s name in English is also Hungary. Europeans call them Huns! In addition, Hungarian is the only European language in the same language family as Turkish.

Hungary is one of the rising countries of Europe today.. After becoming a member of the European Union and Schengen, it gained a good momentum especially in tourism and economy.. The growing popularity of the capital, Budapest, is the biggest part of the country’s renewed picture.

Facts About Budapest

Budapest is Hungary’s capital, largest city, social and cultural highlight. It is located on the banks of the Danube in the mid-north part of Hungary.

Identified with the Danube, this city has a population of approximately 2 million.. It is a center of attention in the region with its buildings, bridges and churches, most of which were built in the past few centuries.

Budapest General View

The brand of this city, perhaps more famous in the world than Hungary, is in Europe. It is also known for tourism.. Today, Budapest is on the lists of the most visited cities in the world.

We must have taken the wind behind us because we landed in Budapest after less than an hour. From the plane. In the first scene I saw, everything was white !

My First Minutes in Budapest / With the Wizz Air Flight That Brought Me

Is There a Visa to Hungary?

After a few minutes, a heavy blizzard Accompanied, we descend from the plane to the apron, take the opportunity to photograph this moment, and then go to passport control.

Hungary is a member of the European Union and Schengen, you have to obtain a visa for your travels here. Holders of official passports. they are exempt from visa for short-term trips.

Hungary is one of the places where I was greeted with a smiling face even at the passport control stage, I have already mentioned our historical proximity. Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport is medium-sized, you can easily get in front of the terminal by following the exit signs.. Here all you have to do is look to your left!

Airport Apron Under Snow / Budapest Liszt Ferenc Airport

Budapest Airport Transportation

To reach the city from Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport Requires combination of bus and subway. First, I will leave the terminal and take the 200E bus, which stops on the left.. This bus will take me from the airport to Köbanya Kispest.

Köbanya Kispest is the last stop of these buses. I will be able to reach the city center with the Budapest Metro, which starts from where I got off.. Although it may seem difficult, I think it is pleasant and easy.

Getting on the Kalkan Metro from Köbanya Kispest

You can buy your ticket for these two vehicles while getting on, but you must have the Hungarian currency Forint with you.. Their fees are 600 forints in total.. It is approximately 11-12 liras in 2019 exchange rates. Subtract two zeros from the Forint and multiply by two, everything in Budapest is Turkish Lira!

You haven’t heard from me! If you can get on the 200E from the back door, there will be no more people checking in But don’t try the ticketless travel on the subway. Even if you try, do not get off at Deak Ferenc, because there are frequent check-ins here.

My First View of Budapest After the Metro

First Impressions

I think it is very pleasant to leave the airports by bus. In this way, you can gradually enter the atmosphere of the city.. Budapest surprises me a little in the first minutes, because the surroundings are a bit run-down and below my expectations.

Time to take the metro from Kobanya Kispest. We are underground now, after 20 minutes I get off at Deak Ferenc Ter in the city center. Get ready to be amazed when you see the sky !

Street and Trams in Front of My Hotel

Contrary to the atmosphere on the airport road, this place is really impressive. Add a white veil to Budapest’s unique mystical yet magnificent buildings, and that’s it.

The blizzard in the first minutes has given way to a light snowfall, it’s around 12 o’clock and it’s in front of me. have a great day. I’m on my way to where I’m staying. It won’t be a long journey I’ve booked myself a hotel in the very center of the city.

On the way to the Hotel / Budapest

Where to Stay in Budapest?

I will stay at the K9 Residence next to Deak Ferenc Square. This is more of a hotel concept, I will pay a total of 30 euros for two nights, a good price for its location and quality.

You have a lot of options to stay in Budapest.. Especially in the last time I visited, hotels that offer apartments for rent, which you can find in the form of “Apartments”, offer good options.. In this way, you will have a house where you can live for a few days like a Budapest native.

Apart from that, hostels are a good alternative for those traveling alone or looking for entertainment in this city.. You are likely to find prices between 5-10 euros per night.. The reason why I give the prices in euros is that you can compare better with prices in other European cities. As you will notice, Budapest and Hungary are quite affordable compared to Northern and Western Europe.

The View From My Room / The Remarkable Wide Street

Places To Visit In Budapest

There is a nice view from the window of my room. The wide and orderly streets of the city draw attention, I am ready to go to the places to visit in Budapest !

My first stop in Budapest is Deak Ferenc Ter. This is the very center of the city, you can see it lively at any time of the day.. You might have guessed that the word “Sweat” means square in Hungarian.

Overview of Attractions in Budapest

Deak Ferenc Square

The square takes its name from the famous Hungarian statesman Deak Ferenc, it is the name of Budapest. For most people who visit, this is the square with a pool.

Deak Ferenc is actually famous for its huge pool and Ferris wheel in the middle. This is the place where young people gather, especially in summer.. There are also nice places where you can have a beer around the square.

I Forgot To Take This One Time Shot Spring in Deak Ferenc Ter from my 2015 Budapest Trip

Vörösmarty Square

I’m on my way from Deak Ferenc to the banks of the Danube. There is another special square that I come across,  Vörösmarty tér.

Vörösmarty Square is one of the most enjoyable spots in Budapest, in my opinion.. This is the most characteristic place where you can observe old and new Budapest.. historical buildings on one side of you and shopping points built with a modern understanding on the other, an elegant monument in the middle.

It may be white and a little quiet right now, but starting from the spring months, local shops can be found in this square. for street performers, it becomes a fair-like environment.

Vörösmarty Square and the Modern Building Behind Me

Vaci Street

The south end of the square opens to Vaci, the touristic street of the city. Vaci Utca stretches from the colorful spots in Budapest to the Central Market in the south of the city.

There is everything from known brands to local souvenir shops along the street.. Some of the notable shops on the street are the Ice Bar and the Lego Store.

When you see Vaci Utca from its end, it pulls you towards it.. I went there without realizing it, the atmosphere of the street is quite warm despite the cold weather. After a little progress, I walk towards the Danube Banks again.

Danube and Budapest

Danube River

I am in Budapest now! You won’t be able to realize you’ve come here if you don’t come to the Danube, which divides this city into two loving parts, and breathe in its air.

The Danube River is a huge natural wonder that crosses ten countries and a continent in total.. It is home to many cities on its journey from Germany to the Black Sea, but it suits Budapest the most!

There is a pleasant atmosphere on the eastern shores of Budapest, namely “Pest”.. Buda Castle and magnificent bridges complete the cute tramway in front of me.

Budapest’s Number 2 Tram Passing here. Before I came, they said take this wherever I read Of course I didn’t get on! I don’t think Budapest should be spent so generously as to pass by by tram, keep walking.

Danube Shores and Tramway Road

Riverboats of the Danube

There are piers and riverboats that you will often come across on the banks of the Danube. Boats are thin and long. You can reach Vienna and some cities of Germany by these boats in the summer months.

In the winter months, they usually just wait.. Some have been converted into cafes and hotels.. One of them also has a quality restaurant, a dinner here would be a very elegant choice.

One of the Small Piers on the Danube

Chain Bridge – Lion Bridge

Boats I dived and forgot the bridges. I suddenly come across one of Budapest’s bridges; Széchenyi Chain Bridge.

Budapest, unified by magnificent bridges in spite of the Danube. The Széchenyi Chain Bridge, the most beautiful among them, according to many. Everyone calls this bridge something else, Chain Bridge and Lion Bridge are the most used ones.

Chain Bridge 19. an old bridge built in the middle of the century. At first glance it will remind you of Manhattan’s Brooklyn Bridge. The lion figures and lamps that you will see when you go into detail are the elements that make this bridge unique.

Chain Bridge Budapest

The bridge is one of the important milestones in terms of engineering.. With the strong message it gave to the world at the time it was built, this place is the heart of the rising Budapest.

When people see these bridges, they want to integrate even more, luckily, Budapest’s Bridges are very affectionate! It is free to walk and cycle on all bridges of this city, including the Lion Bridge.

I cross the bridge to the western part of the city, Buda.. There is also a small viewing point in the middle of the bridge, it is priceless to watch Budapest from here.

The Lion Figures in Mention / Chain Bridge

Budapest Funicular Line

A frightening tunnel and funicular on the Buda side I say hello by line. Luckily, it snowed it’s more cute like this.

The funicular line in front of me extends to Buda Castle above. This funicular is one of the oldest in the world. 19. It was put into use at the end of the century, and is still in use.

It has more touristic importance today, and you know its brother in our country The Taksim-Tünel funicular is one of the few examples that can be considered similar to this line.

Budapest Funicular

Continuing from the Danube to the north. This part of the city is more self-contained and quiet.. With its relatively narrow streets and dark colored buildings, it reflected Budapest’s unique transitional architecture.

I couldn’t get away from the beach in Budapest! The beach of the Buda area is more suitable for casual activities. There is a nice walking and cycling path running along the coast.. It can’t be done without our tram following on the side, there are also benches where we can rest and watch the city if we get tired. I seem to forget that it’s minus 5 degrees.

Walking on the West Bank of the Danube

Calvinist Church

I come across an elegant church, this is the Calvinist Church;

Calvinism, which I hadn’t heard of before, is Christianity 16. It was one of the sects that emerged in the century. It emerged as a representation of the reform movements and the broken understanding of shallow thought.. This church, which has a simple and innovative architecture, was also the center of this trend in Budapest.

It is free to enter and visit during the day. I can’t say it’s so magnificent, but it’s a warm break and explore. A nice spot for a walk.

Calvinist Church

Vásárcsarnok Market

A little ahead there is a small square and a historic office building. This is a rough definition, you can also think of it as a bazaar or shopping point, it’s called Vásárcsarnok, that is, the market.

This building with its brick walls visualized a train station. The clock and lion-shaped engravings at the entrance are worth seeing, there are shops where you can buy local products.

I’m just at Batthyány Ter right now.. I brought you to a pleasant place where you can watch the most iconic building in Budapest without you noticing.. Look at the eastern shores of the Danube from here and be enchanted!

Vásárcsarnok Market

Hungarian Parliament Building

Yes, I have the famous Hungarian Parliament Building in front of me. It is so big that it manages to impress you even from across the river.. This is the tallest building in Budapest and the largest in Hungary.

Budapest Parliament Building 20. A state palace complex completed in the first years of the century. It is one of the most magnificent buildings used for similar purposes and so magnificent that it can be the symbol of Budapest and Hungary.

The Parliament is one of the most characteristic examples of the architectural approach called Neo-Gothic.. The domes and giant columns that stand out with their hard lines are eye-catching.

Hungarian Parliament Building

This place has also witnessed important moments throughout history.. In the years it was built, it became the power indicator of Hungary on the road to its own independence, which gained more weight in the Austro-Hungarian union.. In addition, the modern Republic of Hungary was proclaimed here.

People who want to visit the Hungarian Parliament Building need to buy tickets in advance.. It is not possible for you to wander around here. You have to find a place on guided tours. The current fee is around 4000 forints.

You have to cross the river like me to take a picture with the parliament ! I take pictures from here, even if I take dozens of them, it has a magnificent view that cannot be satisfied.

Parliament and Across the River

Margit Bridge

I keep exploring. People usually come back from here, I’m determined to see the whole Danube shores. I go along the walking path to the Margit Bridge in the north of the city.. Margit Bridge is not the most beautiful bridge in the city! But I think the light colors and the view that sees the city as a whole make this place important.

You may be a little surprised after you get to the bridge.. Because there is a road that goes down the middle of it! This road connects to the famous island of Budapest, Margit. This is the easiest way to get to Margit Island.

Margit Bridge

Margit Island

Margit Island can be considered a Budapest getaway full of parks and nature. Even though I didn’t visit this time, the other times I was in Budapest, it actually got my appreciation.. Especially renting a bicycle and visiting this island is quite enjoyable.

I recommend Margi Island to those who come mostly in the summer months.. Because I’m sure you’ll get cold while walking under the snow like me, there aren’t many people anyway.

I’ve switched to Buddha’s side again.. I’d like to see the Budapest Parliament up close, which I just viewed from afar, but luckily it looks like it’s undergoing extensive renovations today.. Although it hindered me a bit today, I must say that this square has become smoother afterwards.

From Margit Bridge / Budapest Parliament Building at the Back

Budapest Cafes

At this time, I noticed my hands, which were almost freezing from the cold, and , I decide to have a hot drink. On the road to Szabadság Ter behind the parliament, there is a boutique cafe just as I was looking for.

I am drinking a custom-made hot chocolate at Farger Kafe, a place so tastefully decorated that if you call you can’t find. When the snow outside is combined with a slight tiredness, don’t get too excited!

The Parliament Building Closely / Works In Progress

When you go 1-2 kilometers away from the center, you can find many boutique cafes like this, drinks are very affordable at 500 It usually varies between -1500 forints.

As I regain my energy, continue traveling! I’m in the Szabadság Ter, freedom square that I just mentioned. In the middle of the square, there is a monument to the independence of Hungary and a nice park around it.

Szabadság Ter

Zrinyi Street

If you line up the middle of the square and continue towards the south it will take you to a wonderful spot. I will take it out ! A few hundred meters away you will see the Zrinyi Utca sign.

Zrinyi Street is one of my favorite places in Budapest. One end extending to the Danube River and the Lion Bridge, and on the other side, it goes as far as Budapest’s imposing church Szent Istvan Basilica.

There are places with restaurant-bar concept as much as you want along the street. During my trip to Budapest in 2017, I had a wine pairing with dinner at a nice restaurant here.. Don’t be afraid to open a wine in a restaurant in Budapest, you can find quality bottles in the range of 3000-5000 forints.

Zrinyi Street in the Spring / My 2017 Budapest Trip

St. Stephen’s Basilica

From Zrinyi I’m moving in the opposite direction of the Danube. St. Stephen’s Basilica, a part of which was visible at first, suddenly becomes gigantic. So high that its ends are covered in a bit of fog.

St. Stephen’s Basilica, Budapest’s largest church. After more than half a century of construction, 20. completed at the beginning of the century.. Name takes from the first king of Hungary, Stephan.

St. Stephen’s Basilica

The basilica was built in a similar time period with the Parliament Building.. It was built at similar heights and with different architectural understandings to represent the balance of religion and state institutions.. St. Stephen’s Basilica is free of charge during the day. You can visit St. Stephen’s Basilica for free at first glance with its giant dome and columns. >

It’s getting dark now, I’ve visited a lot of places in Budapest, where I just set foot today, but it’s not over yet.. Now it’s time to leave the sightseeings for tomorrow to introduce you to the fun side of this city.

Streets of Budapest

Szimpla Kert

I’m in the famous Szimpla Kert in the southeast of the city. Actually, if I say Szimpla directly, most of you would know.. This is a pub-cafe and nightclub that is all over Europe.

Szimpla is a little difficult to define because it is the first member of a unique concept.. It’s a cozy cafe by day, a fun pub in the evening, and a live performance stage at night.

Inside Szimpla Kert

Hungarian Beer

Especially, It is a unique place with its interior furnished with alternative elements and small labyrinth-like rooms and sections.. Those who want to relieve the tiredness of the day with a Hungarian Beer in Budapest should come here!

Hungarian Beer is the kind you can come across all over the city.. The best feature is that it is served in cafes and bars of the city, including Szimpla, for only 500-1000 forins.. It has a different but tasteful taste.

Me and My Friend Furkan at Szimpla

When you come to Szimpla, don’t forget to bring a pen. Everyone is scribbling on the walls upstairs. So I wrote my own name and date, a beer for anyone who finds it and post a picture of it!

After a few hours, I go to the hotel and change.. The most special moment of the day is at the end, now I will give you a different experience.

While Drinking Beer at Szimpla

Budapest Opera House

We made a contract with Budapest Opera tonight. I’m going to watch a special opera today, Cosi Fan Tutte, with the ticket I bought months ago.. A few hundred meters later, the Hungarian State Opera is in front of me.. It is similar to classical opera houses in Europe but has a more gothic feel. Its appearance under the lights reminds of a haunted mansion

The Hungarian State Opera, like other important structures in the city, is 19. built at the end of the century. This place is known as one of the best operas in the world in terms of acoustics. The first point mentioned after the Opera Garnier in Paris.

Hungarian State Opera and Its Scary Image

How to Watch the Opera in Budapest?

The best way to visit this building is of course a game, watch a show. There are often operas, musicals and concerts here.. Prices are also quite affordable. I still can’t believe that I paid only 600 forints for the Cosi Fan Tutte Opera I bought the ticket for ! If this is the most special activity to do in the city.

Opera’s Fascinating Interior Design

I’m lucky to have a wonderful opera composed by Mozart today. As soon as I enter the building, the surroundings manage to fascinate me.. It’s almost like a palace with a perfectly designed interior.. The stairs and the huge ceiling chandelier are stunning.

We find our place with the help of the staff, luckily I bought a ticket to an elegant balcony, it’s like I found myself in old French movies all of a sudden.. I’ve never experienced such an atmosphere before. The lights, the music and the stage are all magnificent…

The Observation Balconies of the Opera

The opera begins! English subtitles are also mirrored for the work which is staged in Hungarian. In this way, it was easier for me to embrace the spirit of the music and the artists on the stage.

I was so tired that I almost fell asleep Turkishness is in our blood, but I managed to complete this play without sleeping. Joking aside, it was a great experience that I enjoyed.. You can come to Budapest just to experience this atmosphere.

Waiting for the Opera to Start / Budapest

New York Cafe Budapest

I have a good idea for a night like this. “Aren’t you tired of Gorge yet?” Budapest is such a place that I can’t get enough of traveling and living, now it’s a last point.

This is the famous New York Cafe. This place was insistently recommended in foreign blogs I researched, this time I follow the comments.

I think this is the first time I will talk about a cafe like this.. This place is a wonderful combination of the culture of Hungary’s monarchy period and the cafe concept that settled later. I can’t really say because this place looks like a palace or a mansion.

My Menu at New York Cafe

New York Cafe is one of the important cafe-restaurants in the lists all over the world. It also houses an integrated hotel.. While drinking coffee and dessert here, you can think of yourself as part of a museum.. The sound of the grand piano playing inside has already taken me away, this time I just listen to it, I don’t need it

This way, I end my first day in Budapest. In fact, I leave this part to the end of the article, even though I went to the famous nightlife spots in Budapest, such as Instant, later in the day.. Now have a good sleep!

Me at New York Cafe Budapest

Thursday, January 30, 2014. I wake up to a cold day in Budapest. It looks cloudy today, the snowfall has stopped. I hit the road without having breakfast.

When you wake up, you feel the cold harder, unlike yesterday, I feel a little cold, but before seeing this special structure that excites me!

Second Day in Budapest

Dohány Street Synagogue

Across from me is the Dohany Street Synagogue. I had never visited a Synagogue abroad before. This is at a point that can be considered the center of the city, about 2-3 minutes walking from Deak Ferenc.

Dohány Synagogue was built in the mid-1800s in a style called Moor.. The synagogue is the largest in Europe and the 5th largest in the world.. It is the largest Jewish place of worship.

Today, you can visit this place outside of prayer hours.. I can say that the interior is quite different from a church and gold embellishments are impressive.

Now I’m heading south of the city from Museum Street.. This area is home to relatively more modern shops.. You can also see Turkish restaurants along the street.

Dohány Synagogue

Budapest Museums

The street also houses the Hungarian State Museum, from which it is named. It will easily attract your attention with its imposing columns.. Here you can observe thousands of pieces of Hungarian History.. A museum that I can recommend for those who have more than 2-3 days in the city.

Budapest already hosts dozens of museums.. This place is considered one of the Central Europe’s cultural capitals. It can take a week to visit the museums in the city.. The House of Terror and Ethnography Museums, which I had the opportunity to see on my second and third visits, are places that will allow you to interpret this city better.

I reach Kalvin Ter. From here you will be able to see another beautiful bridge crossing the Danube.. Before reaching the end of the street, I have a breakfast at a delightful Bakery.. I said “bakery” because I don’t think it means exactly, I can describe it more like a pastry shop.

The Continuation of Museum Street / The National Museum Visible from afar

Budapest Central Market

At the end of the street I arrive. In front of me is the Central Market, which I can call the market or market building of the city.. Contrary to the market buildings that I am accustomed to from various parts of Europe, this is a bigger and more comprehensive one.

First of all, you should pay attention to the time to visit the Budapest Central Market. This place is closed on sundays. Open during working hours on weekdays. You may not be as lucky as me when you are traveling without knowing this detail

With Budapest Carpet

Fortunately, I catch a clear moment. It has a similar architecture to the market building I came across in the west of the city the previous day.. I think the brick walls add a friendly atmosphere to these structures, now I look inside.

This place resembles a huge hangar.. In particular, downstairs you can find all kinds of fruit, vegetable and meat products you can think of.. I think the prices are affordable too.

The Interior of the Budapest Carpet / My Budapest 2017 Trip

What to Buy in Budapest?

There are more touristic products, souvenirs and textile products on the upper floor. But I can’t say that it is as cheap as the ground floor Especially touristic products are a bit expensive, it is certain that the shops you can find in different parts of the city, in the side streets, offer better prices.

We’ve come of course! I also add a nice magnet to my collection, downstairs there are places where you can buy Palinka, the local drink of Hungary. You can also buy small models of important buildings.

Across the Central Market, there are lovely houses that remind me of the ones in Brussels and Amsterdam. They are designed with a different understanding from my general impression of the city, and should not be missed.

Nice Houses Opposite Central Market

Liberty Bridge

I am now on my favorite bridge in Budapest; Szabadzag.

In other words, Freedom Bridge is one of Budapest’s elegant structures. While watching this 330-meter-long steel bridge, you may think that you have made a short trip in time.

Since I like its design, it has a special place for me, it shakes seriously with the passing of cars is a different feeling..

With the Freedom Bridge / Budapest

The Gellért Hill Cave and Church

There is a different church on the right that caught my attention as I crossed the Liberty Bridge to Buda. This is the Gellért Hill Cave, combined with the hill behind it.

As you can guess from the name, the church is located inside the cave. The only place I’ve seen such a place of worship is Kuala Lumpur, in Malaysia. Batu Caves frankly. I can describe it as the most different church you can see in the Continent of Europe.

Gellért Hill Cave

How to Climb Gellert Hill?

From this point, Gellert, the highest point of Budapest, rises next to me.. Walking isn’t the easiest way to get to Gellert Hill But walking up the hill with snowy roads and changing scenery isn’t a bad idea.

The Trail to Gellert

Freedom Bridge There is a trail running from the bottom up to Gellert Hill.. This is a place frequented by the locals, no need to fear. As you go up the hill, there are some vantage points. Each new vantage point offers a more beautiful view.

Finally, I reach Gellert Peak.. It’s definitely higher than it looks !

From One of the Observation Terraces I Came across on my way up Gellert Hill / Liberty Bridge Behind Me

The Citadella and the Statue of Liberty

Almost every part of the city on Gellert Hill There is a huge Statue of Liberty that can be seen from anywhere and a mini castle called the Citadella.. This place is for watching Budapest rather than walking.. Meanwhile, with the sun gently showing its face, the landscape and my photos become more beautiful.

Now I will go down this hill and go to another hill.. Next up is Budapest’s famous Buda Castle.. The journey between these two hills is not very enjoyable It’s tiring and you pass a bit of the main road, but the degree of adventure is high !

Budapest View from Gellert

Buda Castle

You can also use the funicular line I mentioned yesterday to get to Buda Castle.. Those who say that I will walk, can slowly climb up the road next to the funicular.

This time the hill is not that steep, there are stairs in places. After 10-15 minutes, Buda Castle’ What am I getting at?

The Walls Appearing on the Climb to Buda Castle

Buda, or Budin Castle, is one of the oldest landmarks in Budapest.. The castle, which was built in the 18th century, changed to its present appearance in the 18th century.. reached the middle of the century. In addition, the castle and the palace it houses are considered to be one of the important examples of Baroque buildings.

Buda Castle has a pleasant courtyard.. While you can examine the palace complex next to you in detail from here, you can also see the general view of Budapest.

Buda Castle

The palace now houses a museum.. If you’re lucky like me, you can witness Hungarian Soldiers’ delightful moment of changing of the guard!

I keep walking north. Surrounded by Buda Castle, this area is a different point of Budapest that simulates the Middle Ages, there are colorful houses and various historical public buildings all around me.

Buda Castle from Across the River

Matyas Church

At the end of the road, I arrive at a nice square and opposite Matyas Church.

Matyas Church is undoubtedly one of the most magnificent structures in Budapest. first 13. It was built in the 19th century, but it was destroyed by the wars it went through and it looks like it is today.. century.

The church has an eye-catching architecture.. Neo-Gothic style similar to the one in the Parliament building you will immediately notice. The details, especially in the entrance section, are quite nice.

Matyas Church

Fisherman’s Bastion

There is another important structure in Budapest, the Fisherman’s Bastion, right across from the church.. This structure can be considered as a touristic observation point. With its ice cream domes and fairytale-like appearance, it creates a beautiful feeling in the person.

The Fisherman’s Bastion takes its name from the old fishermen’s markets in this region.. built at the beginning of the century. Unlike other structures in the city, this structure, where you can see western Romanesque traces, resembles a large castle when viewed from below.

Fisherman’s Bastion

The bastion is one of the pleasant spots to watch Budapest.. It is wonderful to watch the Parliament on my left and the Lion Bridge on my right while looking at the Danube.. Even get ready for boutique cafes and tourist shops inside the domes.

Watching Budapest from the Fisherman’s Bastion

The Fisherman’s Bastion, which I can experience for free today must have unfortunately succumbed to the booming Budapest Tourism 2017 has become paid as of my visit. But I know a better activity to do here Wait for the end of the summer !

Now I have completed the places I will visit on the Buddha side.. From the Fisherman’s Bastion I descend to Batthyány tér, where I was yesterday. This road is very pleasant because, unlike the touristic environment I just saw, there are streets where you can observe the people of Budapest.

Because it is winter, the day gets dark early, I have completed the places I will visit in Budapest for today. Now I will tell you a few more spots I visited on my next trips to Budapest.

Via Fisherman’s Bastion

Heroes’ Square

The first of these is Hösök Tere, or Heroes’ Square.

Heroes’ Square, one of the most meaningful spots in Budapest. It is located at the end of the Andrássy Boulevard, on which the Opera is located.

The square is famous for the statues of people who have shaped Hungarian history. The monument standing in the middle is so big that it can almost be seen from Deak Ferenc.

Heroes’ Square / Summer in Budapest

Budapest City Park

Just behind Heroes’ Square is Városliget.

This is the city’s largest park. I can say that it has a chirpy environment especially after the spring months.. Various festivals are also held here throughout the year.. The pool at the entrance of the park an ice rink in winter !

Budapest City Park’s Ever-changing Pool and Ice Rink

Budapest Hot Springs

Just next to this park, I see the most famous of the thermal spas, one of the most important values of Budapest. The Széchenyi Thermal Bath is undoubtedly the most famous of them all.

These baths also occupy an important place in Hungarian Culture, it is not surprising to see traces of us in these lands that were already under Ottoman rule.

Széchenyi stands out with its thermal outdoor pool, especially in winter months.. You can wear your swimsuits outside with the falling snow and enjoy a warm pool here. Pool parties are also held here on certain days!

Of course, this is not the only thermal spot in Budapest.. A place where you can bathe in a mystical atmosphere at the Gellert Bath at the Buda foot of the Iron Freedom Bridge.

Kelleti Train Station

Finally from Keleti Even if I don’t talk. Most of you will come to Budapest from this beautiful train station!

Budapest Keleti Station is one of the most beautiful train stations you can see in Europe. It is impossible not to be impressed when you come out and face it.. With its huge entrance door and its yellow color, I think it should be added to the list.

Why Budapest?

To sum up, Budapest is close to both our country. It is a city that must be seen with its cultural and historical structures.

Come to Budapest for a historical trip, come to have fun or come to live but come! This is Western Europe a point where the East meets. When you go out a few kilometers from the city, you can see buildings with Communist traces, as well as details similar to our country.

When to Go to Budapest?

Budapest there is time to visit. As someone who has visited this city in all four seasons and almost every month, my opinion is that you come in all seasons Besides telling my first excitement, I also told about Budapest in winter because I think everyone has reservations.. However, as you can see, this city is also delicious under the snow!

Budapest is a place that turns into a different image and tastes in every season.. But I think the ideal season for first time visitors is spring.. If young people come to have fun, definitely summer.

Summer and Winter in Budapest

How is the Budapest Climate?

Budapest climate is similar to our country’s continental climate.. It is possible to see snow in winter, but it is not like minus 20 degrees.. In summers, there is a temperature of 25-30 degrees which is not overwhelming.

The ones coming from the west and south of Turkey can get a little cold in winter!

Hungarians and Turks Their Views

Let me open parenthesis to the Hungarian People. Hungarians are the friendliest people I have ever met in Europe.. Here are the sweetest reactions to Turks.

This is a country with people who can pronounce my name literally as “Gorkem” Forget the word “Budapest” in English anyway. You will say the name of this city with “Budapest” !

You can contact Hungarians at every point of the city, of course it is not easy to find local people due to the influx of tourists lately

Budapest Nightlife

The nightlife in Budapest is one of the most frequently asked questions to me.. Actually, I thought I should write a separate article on this subject, but I won’t tire you guys!

Budapest has the most enjoyable nightlife I’ve ever seen in the world. Because the places and people are very friendly.. This place mostly appeals to young people with medium financial power.

Alcohol is cheap in the country and everyone just wants to have fun in the venues. Summer and Entertainment / My 2016 Travel to Budapest

Bars in Budapest

So where shall we go, what shall we do? Actually, I don’t suggest many places in my articles, but things are different here.. Behind the Opera House Instant is an important place for me. I am not looking for both its environment and its concept in our country.

Otherwise, don’t underestimate Szimpla. The cafe, which looks cute during the day, is replaced by a fun nightclub in the evening.. Those looking for a quieter environment may prefer the restaurant-bar concept places between the Hungarian Parliament and St. Stephen’s Basilica.

Otherwise, to have fun in the summer, just go to Deak Ferenc and the Danube shores!

What to Eat in Budapest?

There is also the issue of eating and drinking in Budapest. I am sure that you have not heard of Goulash Soup.. Yes, it is one of the most famous dishes of this country, it is available almost everywhere, it should be tasted.

Hungarian Cuisine also carries traces from every aspect, like their culture. Meat dishes are heavy but a little different from ours, their taste You might like it, even if it’s a little different.. I don’t find it right to name the food, I can describe the surroundings, but it’s not really true for the tastes go and taste it !

Is Budapest Expensive ?

You ate, drank, traveled so much, but this city is expensive, how did you do it? Budapest the last place a tourist will fear financially. Although I think the prices have increased with its popularity since my first visit, it is still much more affordable than Western and Northern Europe.

Wherever you want in Budapest eat and have fun wherever you want or buy something. I’m sure you won’t pay a different price than our country. But when you talk about it as cheap, it is misunderstood.. It is almost what Turkey is, and it can be said that it is 10-20 percent more expensive.

How Many Days to Visit Budapest?

You You have been to Budapest many times, but what should we do, how many days should we visit? I think it’s enough to spare 2 days for Budapest at the first stage. During this time, you can practically visit the places to visit.

If you say I’ll go to the spa, watch opera, visit the museums, 1 week you won’t get bored !

Budapest Overview

Hungary Safe ?

I will clarify one more issue since people are relatively underestimated and ignorant of Budapest and Hungary.. This is a safe and quiet country.

In Budapest, even late at night, a man or a woman can walk around in whatever clothes they want. As a general impression, I can say that they have a contemporary mindset, you don’t have to hesitate.

Cities Around Budapest

Finally, we came to Budapest, where should we go? You all know the Central European trilogy, Budapest, Prague, Vienna Yes, I think these three cities are a delightful trio, because they are all very different from each other.

But my suggestion to you is more Zagreb, Ljubljana and Zagreb. Pecs. There are always cheap plane tickets to Vienna and Prague, and it’s easy to get there from other European countries, especially Germany.. But Croatia and Slovenia are always overlooked !

You can take trains from Budapest to Zagreb and from there to Ljubljana. Also, I think Pecs, the lovely little city of Hungary, is a pleasant destination.

I also have a recommendation article based on my experiences in Budapest.. Don’t think of going to Budapest without reading it too, a little different from what you can find on the internet, “To experience Budapest”. Have a nice day all !
