Be Nosy and Unique Nature

The first time we set foot in Madagascar was to the island of Nosy Be, located at the northernmost tip of Madagascar. However, we anchored offshore on the island of Nosy Be as the port was not available. We went ashore in boats.

Many thin, narrow and long boats draw our attention in the sea. These canoes are so narrow that two people cannot sit side by side. There are long reed supports on both sides to prevent it from falling over. While we are proceeding with the motor, they approach us with these boats and try to sell something. It is obvious that the people here live in very difficult conditions.

Nosy be We took a minibus on the island of . We went to see the Yılang Yılang trees. These trees are really interesting, they look like snakes. Another feature of these trees is that they are used in perfume making. After the trees, we went to visit the perfume factory.

The road is very narrow and stabilized. The houses by the sea are very primitive, just like the houses by the river in Cambodia. We toured the market on the island. Crabs, shrimps, baby fish are full of flies. We saw iguanas on the way.

Then we came to a volcanic lake. The local guide mentioned that there is a monster in this lake. Our guide says it appears and disappears for 1-2 minutes. It is not clear where it came from. Many people come just to see this beast. I don’t know if it is true or not, but I think it may have been said to stimulate tourism.

Then we come to the seaside to swim. This place is a complete mess. Young people playing live music on the sand both sing and dance. Some of the girls have painted faces and various patterns on their faces. There are many peddlers on the beach. They sell tablecloths, straw bags, pareos, and souvenirs.

The sea was pretty cold when we went. We saw lemurs and iguanas here as well. Due to the tropical climate, it suddenly rained pouringly, and then the sun came out immediately. It’s green everywhere.

We stopped by a village on the way back to the ship. Here we saw the banyan tree with roots from its branches. The trunk of this banyan tree here is so big that it is spread over a very wide area and is under the protection of UNESCO.
