BOLOGNA Economic Travel Guide
Journey to the Red City..
Italy’s “Red city” is a less explored destination overshadowed by more touristy cities such as Bologna, Venice, Florence and Milan. However, this city is the homeland of the University of Bologna, one of the best universities in Europe, and of course the Bolognese sauce associated with its name.. A very calm and quiet city.. This is a medieval city where you feel compelled to move slowly, with its buildings made of red bricks and porches (porches) that you will encounter almost throughout the city.
Bologna is the red city, la rossa (red) because of the red bricks, la grassa (fat, fat) due to its gastronomic richness and cuisine where oil is used abundantly, and la dotta (informed) because it is the place where the first known university of Europe was established. ).
TO REACH BOLOGNA: HOW TO GET TO BOLOGNA?
First you need to have a valid Schengen visa. Afterwards, you will have an Italy tour program in which you can include Bologna.. You ask why? Because we think Bologna is a place where you can go for a day and finish the whole thing in half a day.. When you stay longer, your soul may get tired and you may feel sleepy You will understand what we mean better when you go to this city.. If you had the opportunity to see other cities in Italy, and if you caught a cheap ticket by chance, of course, you can escape to Bologna for a quiet weekend break.
By plane: THY has direct flights to Bologna. You can find affordable airfare out of the peak season and when you look a few months before your trip.. Bologna airport Guglielmo Marconi (Bologna) International Airport. You will reach the city center from the airport in a short time by taxi or by Aerobus buses.
By train: Bologna is located in a super middle point in terms of location.. You can easily reach Bologna from many cities in Italy by train.. Venice and Florence are important touristic cities where you can reach here quickly and cheaply by train.
We made the Bologna trip, which is a part of our Tuscany tour, with the car we rented.. Honestly, driving in Italy is quite enjoyable because the scenery is magnificent along the way.. Italians driving a car is like us Turks, so you don’t feel so foreign shsh
BOLOGNA BY CITY TRANSPORTATION
Definitely walking. Bologna is not a big enough city to use public transport, and all the important sights are within a few steps’ walking distance.. However, this is a place where you need to walk as calmly as possible, not with fast steps.. Because there is a state of calmness that you will feel as soon as you step foot in the city.
ACCOMMODATION IN BOLOGNA: WHERE TO STAY IN BOLOGNA?
We did not stay in this city. From Florence, the last destination of our Tuscany tour, we stopped by Bologna to eat pasta with bolognese sauce before moving on to Venice, and after spending half a day, we continued on our way. However, as far as we know, the city is very big and not touristic, so you don’t have much choice in terms of accommodation here.. That’s why the prices are quite reasonable.. We recommend you to review your most suitable accommodation alternatives on booking.com as usual.
THINGS TO DO IN BOLOGNA
Cook: Yes, there are places in this city such as Culinary Institute of Bologna or Cook Italy, where you can spend your whole day cooking and learning the details of Italian cuisine on the spot.. If you love to cook and are planning a tour of Bologna for at least 2 days, you should take a day off to experience this different experience.
Photograph the Canals of Bologna: Actually, the canals are one of the canals identified with Venice. in our visual mind. But Bologna is also a city built on water canals. Canale Reno and Canale delle Moline, located at Via Piella 18, are among the most photogenic channels.
Whispers in Palazza Re Enzo.. When you mutter something, facing the wall, at the opposite corners of the arches that pass under this palace, the other can hear it from the other corner.. We haven’t tried it, but we recommend it to you..
Carpigiani Gelato Museum: This is both an ice cream university and an ice cream museum inside the facility.. By booking in advance, you can experience ice cream making and visit the museum.
Find the arrow sticking out on the wooden ceiling of Casa Isolani in Strada Maggiore.. It’s very popular and touristy.. We couldn’t find it, but keep your eyes peeled.. According to the information we got from the internet, the legend is as follows; A nobleman wanted to have his cheating wife shot by the archers, but when the archers came, his wife took off her cloak and started to flee naked, the archers were surprised and swung their arrows at the ceiling instead of inside the house.
Climbing to the Asinelli tower, witness the red landscape of the city. One of the two medieval towers, which are symbols of the city, is named Torre Garisenda and the other is Torre Asinelli. These towers are also called twin towers among the people.. Garisenda is a rather crooked tower from the tower of Pisa, so it doesn’t even have an entrance.. But a city view worth climbing up Asinelli’s 500 single-person steep stairs will be waiting for you.. We underline this recommendation as a must-do activity in Bologna.
WHAT TO EAT IN BOLOGNA? WHAT TO DRINK?
We would like to write under this heading that you should eat pasta with bolognese sauce, but this sauce is made with pork, not veal in Bologna.. Bolognese original name is Ragu. You have to order as Tagliatelle al Ragu or Lasagne al Ragu. However, it is impossible to find a Bolognese sauce without pork.. Therefore, if you do not eat pork, you should choose tagliatelle or spaghetti.. Or a delicious Italian pizza, parmesan sauce and wine will be the perfect meal.. Not to mention a nice espresso and dessert on top of it.. Speaking of dessert, especially ice cream. We even recommend you to try Gelateria Gianni.. This place is famous for its ricotto cheese ice cream.
Bologna is known as the gastronomic city of Italy. I guess that’s why cooking classes are also the most popular of the activities to do.. In general, Ristorante is big restaurants where you can find all kinds of food, Trattoria is smaller restaurants where you can find 6-7 kinds of starters and main courses, Osteria is small family businesses that only serve 2-3 kinds of traditional food, that is, in the style of artisan restaurants in us.. Apart from that, Pizzeria is pizzerias.
SHOPPING IN BOLOGNA
Magnets, postcards, snow globes are among the first gifts we always turn around.. But I think the best gift you can get here is homemade food.. For example, handmade pasta, cheese and sauces. What else can one buy from a gastronomy city anyway.
Via dell’Independenza and Via dell’Archiginnasio, where luxury stores are located, are the streets we can recommend especially to those looking for an address for shopping.
Quadrilatero area is the ideal place for your fruit and vegetable shopping.

ENTERTAINMENT AND NIGHT LIFE IN BOLOGNA
Our answer to those who say why the city is so calm and quiet and say why did you open this topic: Habit But still, let’s not create an image of a city that old, because the majority of the population is university students.. So these young people want to go out at night, have fun. There are many pubs, clubs and live music venues in Bologna, friends.. We couldn’t experience it because we did a city tour in daylight for half a day, but around the university Via Zamboni and Piazza Verdi, Via Mascarella are the main places for young people who want to have fun at night.. For your information..
