Bologna Travel Guide and Places to Visit

Bologna travel guide and Bologna places to visit, Bologna it was one of the cities that fell into our minds and hearts with a single photograph.. Come and go, we went to other cities in Italy, but we could not go to Bologna. Until April 2019! ☺ We said we want to see this city and we escaped from Munich to Bologna for 2.5 days.. Glad we went, we loved this red and fat gourmet city of Italy.. We wanted to write the Bologna travel guide and Places to visit in Bologna without delaying this city so much.

Bologna” We walked about 20 km a day, ate and drank a lot, visited its beautiful buildings and spent time outside until late in the evening, enjoying the fact that it is a city that lives 24/7 as it is a student city.. And we loved this city. Italy has always surprised us and made us love it more each time.

If you want a little weekend getaway, if you like Italian cuisine and eating – drinking in general (who doesn’t like it), if you want to see history and architecture, if you’re looking for an inexpensive Italian city that can be explored on foot, Bologna is the place to be.. In addition, since it is very close to other beautiful Italian cities such as Venice, Milan and Verona, you can easily combine Bologna with your trips to these cities.

Transportation in Bologna

Transportation in Bologna, this is the easiest part, on foot! You will probably only need public transport during your Bologna trip to get into the city from Bologna Airport.. Since the airport is close to the city, it takes around 15 minutes and the one-way shuttle costs 6 Euros.. Other than that, you can only explore the city on foot and there really isn’t anywhere you need to go by public transport.. In other words, transportation in Bologna is only used between the airport and the city center

We walked about 20 km every day during the trip.. In this way, we even burned our food and returned home without having to drill two more holes in the belt.. Transportation in Bologna will be on foot with good and comfortable shoes.. ☺

Accommodation in Bologna

The only thing that upset us was Accommodation in Bologna . Since the accommodation options in Bologna are limited and we stayed a bit last minute, we found it very difficult to find a hotel that fits our budget.. In fact, the occupancy rate of the hotels in Bologna was over 90 percent and only expensive hotels remained.. One of the last minute bed & breakfast hotels opened up and we made a reservation right away.. Luckily we loved it too.. That’s why we will say that as soon as you buy your Bologna ticket, take care of your accommodation! Then, one day before our trip, don’t keep refreshing the booking.com page with hope ☺

If we make some hotel suggestions; we loved the Biblio Rooms Guesthouse where we stayed. Let’s leave the link here so that if you can find a place, grab it now! ☺ We paid 65 Euros per night, we can say that it is well below the Bologna average.

Other than that, one of the places that was highly recommended to us was Albergo Garisenda, which is also very affordable and very central.. Here is the link.

If there is no room there, you can check Acquaderni Rooms (link here) or 6 a 2 passi (link here).

If you are looking for the cheapest and central place, you can look at Bologna House Stazione Centrale

Or Rooms Otto Agosto.

When to go to Bologna and in how many days to visit Bologna?

When to go to Bologna? Best Times for Bologna

Normally, Italy’s climate is milder than ours, but not that of the North.. That’s why the Northern region, including Bologna, can be really cold in winter.. It is relatively less crowded and hotel prices in Bologna are more affordable.. If you say that the cold does not affect me all the time, if you say that the weather is hot / warm, you can go between April and October.. Always go if you ask us. ☺

How many days to visit Bologna, how many days for Bologna?

As for this question; In our opinion, Bologna is a city that starts to enjoy itself after understanding the city a bit.. Yes, touristic places to visit are completed in 1 day, or 1.5 days at the latest, but if you spend time on the streets and continue to explore eating and drinking places, the pleasure you get from the city increases.. We stayed for 2,5 days and we were never bored. In fact, on our first day, Saturday, the crowd of the city tired us a little and we couldn’t understand the city.. But we went out early on a Sunday morning and fell in love with the red and fat streets of the city, before anyone in the city was awake yet, and we loved it at that moment! ☺

Is Bologna Expensive?

Let’s talk about this. In our opinion, Bologna food and beverage prices are more affordable than most cities in Italy, and since it is a student city, there are quite affordable eating and drinking options. Even Aperativos are better suited to other ‘Aperativo’ cities. You can eat and drink comfortably at the venues, including food and drink, for a total of 20 Euros for two people.. You can also drink coffee for 1 – 1.5 Euros.. Accommodation, on the other hand, is just the opposite, accommodation is a chore.. We already mentioned it above. ☺

Now we can move on to Places to visit in Bologna.

Bologna Travel Guide – Places to Visit in Bologna

Portici di Bologna – Porches

Bologna we added one more word to our Turkish vocabulary; portico! It literally means a series of columns connected by arches.. Bologna is completely covered with these colonnades.. When you say patterned, new and old, you can walk in the city for 40 km without getting wet in the rain.. Even Bolognans don’t carry umbrellas.

We loved the atmosphere that these porticos add to the city.. You can even look at the ‘must see porticos’ lists on the internet if you’re interested.

Piazza Maggiore

Bologna main square surrounded by wonderful buildings. All events revolve here! ☺

One side is the largest church in the Emilio Romagna region ‘Basilica di San Petronio’, and the other side is ‘Palazzo dei Notai’, once the palace of the Notaries Union strong>, the other side is the Palazzo d’Accursio, which was like the annex building of the University of Bologna, and the last side is surrounded by the Palazzo dei Podesta.

Biblioteca Salaborsa

The city’s famous library inside Palazzo d’Accursio. You can visit the library between 14:30-20:00 on Monday, 10:00-20:00 Tuesday-Friday, and 10:00-19:00 on Saturdays.. Libraries like this impress us a lot!

If you have an interest in architecture and art, it’s like you don’t like these structures! There is also an art gallery inside Palazzo d’Accursio. You can spend 5 Euros and walk around.

Palazzo dei Banchi

Palazzo dei Banchi it is our favorite building that completely covers one side of the square. it happened. Places to visit in Bologna if you click here too – the main square is complete! ☺

University of Bologna – Universita di Bologna

The reason why Bologna is such a vibrant and vibrant city is because it is a university city. At the same time, the University of Bologna is the first known university in the West and the oldest university still in the world.. What else…

If it’s so famous, we said it wouldn’t happen if we didn’t see it, and we liked the building very much.. We say drop by while you’re here.

The Twin Towers, Symbols of Bologna – Asinelli and Garisenda

These two towers, one of which is a trapezoid, were the symbols of Bologna during the time of the wealth and nobility of the city. it was a symbol. even 12. There were nearly 100 towers in Bologna in the century, then when natural disasters and wars said, the towers could not stand and only 20 remained.

Asinelli from the Bologna Twin Towers is a little crooked, so you can climb about 500 steps. Entry is 5 Euros and you have to buy the ticket online, they don’t sell it at the door.. You can get it from this site. We went up the hill both to see the city from the top and, excuse me, to burn some of the food we ate! And from the front, like a greyhound, with full German discipline!

Garisenda, that is, the trapezoidal tower is the trapezoidal you know.. It hasn’t been destroyed for a thousand years, you say it will be destroyed now, but you still don’t want to sit under it or at its level.. We liked the crooked one more of these two towers.

After passing the Twin Towers in Bologna, you come across Rizzoli Street (Via Rizzoli). This is Bologna’s shopping street. If you want to shop, you can tour here.

La Piccola Venezia (Venice Window)

This is one of our favorite places to visit in Bologna. Many canals passed through Bologna over time, and later, with the urbanization, the canals disappeared.. One still stands. ☺

There is a small window in front of number 18 on Via Piella, or Piella Street, and that window opens to this single channel.. Of course, it’s not Venice, but shouldn’t you be happy when you see a canal when you least expect it?

After this window, you can view the canal from the street parallel to the ‘Via Guglielmo Oberdan’.

Basilica di Santo Stefano

Bologna This was the last basilica we visited in .. We can even say that it was the most beautiful. Our recommendation is that if you go early in the morning before it gets crowded, it will be more pleasant than quiet.

This place consists of a combination of seven intertwined churches and its other name is ‘Sette Chiese’, that is, the New Church.

People walk around the church on Sunday mornings, take their kids for a walk, or just sit around even if they’re doing nothing. We loved this extremely peaceful atmosphere when we went.

Places to visit in Bologna were like this in general. You will see that the streets of the city are often more enjoyable than the buildings you visit.. If you have time, you can also check out San Petronio Basilica and San Luca Monastery, which we haven’t been to but are on the list of Places to visit in Bologna.

Of course, all these were the part of Places to visit in Bologna. Now we come to another part that is at least as important as that! ☺

Bologna Travel Guide: Bologna Eating – Drink Tips

Bologna Italy’s eating – drinking

The strong> region is a gourmet city as it is the capital of Emilia – Romagna . That’s why there are people who come to Bologna to eat as well as to visit, and there are even those who come just for this.. So, the city is about to be worth the throne in terms of eating and drinking.. When you say pasta, delicatessen, coffee shops, you fall in love with Italian cuisine once again.

We put the habit of eating mostly ‘street food’, which we usually do on trips, on the shelf for once in Bologna and we started eating! ☺

Bologna Eating and Drinking Recommendations

We had our breakfast at Pappare on the first day. If you go early in the morning, it is a very pleasant place indeed.. Croissants, sandwiches and coffees are great. After 9 am, it gets crowded and everyone looks at you with the eyes of ‘eat and get up’.. Getting here early is a must.

Bologna food and beverage – Another suggestion for breakfast is Gamberini. Especially the desserts are legendary! However, it is necessary to come here early in the morning, there is a stampede later on.

Italy means coffee, so you will probably try plenty of coffee shops in Bologna.. Our recommendation will be Café Tailor, because it is quite traditional and beautiful. You will already see that the locals will be drinking espresso standing up.. We took another coffee break at Sfoglia Rina. The design of the place and the coffees were very nice.

Osteria dell’OrsaBologna’s most famous local restaurant. Daily tagliatelle, tortellini, lasagna varieties are available, they have homemade tiramisu and it is always crowded.. To tell the truth, this is the only place we didn’t like in Bologna.. Nobody looks at you because they are full of tradesmen, and the tortellini we ate was pretty average compared to the other things we ate in Bologna.. uh we didn’t like it here.

As for the places we love; Lab 16 aperativo was the place we tried and we loved it. Aperativo plus a cocktail of your choice cost 11 Euros and we can say that it is quite suitable for Bologna.

Then, of course, there are the famous delicatessens.. There is a culture of eating and drinking in Bologna; You go to the delicatessen street, you order a delicatessen plate and your wine next to it, and you feel full and happy! Our delicatessen choice was Tamburini, which we entered by chance.. Full points here. If there is no room here, you can try ‘Salumeria Simoni’. We heard his praise a lot.. ☺

There are so many options for eating and drinking in Bologna, apart from the ones we mentioned above! Sand on the sea, restaurant in Bologna, you know. ☺ We will also prepare a Bologna Eating – Drinking guide and talk about it in more detail.

This is how Bologna was for us; lots of fun, lots of walking, exploration and eating and drinking. We have come to the end of yet another European city, have fun everyone who is going to Bologna!

We have come to the end of our Bologna travel guide and places to visit in Bologna!
