Cuba, Land of Revolution – Travel Guide to Cienfuegos and Santa Clara

Santa Clara Travel Guide & Places to Visit in Santa Clara

Santa Clara is located in the middle of Cuba and is also known as the city of Che Guevara. The last conflict of the Cuban Revolution took place in this city and Dictator Batista left the country within 12 hours after the loss of Santa Clara.

Santa Clara is a very small city.. But if you have time, you can definitely spare 1 night and stay in “casas” in the house of the people of Santa Clara.. Since we didn’t have time, we took a day trip, and the taxi driver who brought us here provided our guide for a small fee.

It takes about 4 hours with the Viazul bus company from Santa Clara, Havana, and runs twice a day. doing. One way price is 18 CuC. There are also collective taxis that we mentioned in the Cuban Preparation Guide.. That’s how we traveled!

We had just gone to the Viazul bus terminal and were intending to buy a bus ticket, when we discovered the ‘Collective Taxi’ drivers waiting around the terminal.. If you are 4 people, it corresponds to the price of the bus and you draw the route you want.. If you say you don’t have to go by bus, here you go.

The driver who will take us, Marcel, said that he is from Santa Clara and that if we want, he can take us to Santa Clara, show us the important places and drop us off to Trinidad in the evening.. Needless to say, we immediately accepted this seemingly logical offer (!)

With collective taxis, the journey takes much less time than the bus, and you can ask anything you wonder about Cuba along the way.. We chatted with Marcel along the way, even took a break and had dinner, and we reached Santa Clara in 3 hours.

Che Guevera’s famous mausoleum is in Santa Clara.. As you know, Che was killed in Bolivia in 1967, but his body was only brought to Cuba in 1997.. This mausoleum was opened in 1997 to commemorate Che Guevara and the 16 guerrillas killed during the fighting in Bolivia.. It means ‘Forever until Victory!’.

There is ‘Museo Historica de La Revolucion’ right next to the monument. In this museum, there are all the schools that Che went to, starting from his childhood, his classmates, his uniforms, notebooks, revolutionary newspaper clippings and pipes.. If you’re interested in the Cuban Revolution, it’s sure to impress you.. It is forbidden to take photos inside the museum and the officials are very serious about this.. So unfortunately we don’t have a photo of the inside.. Also, admission is free and closed on Mondays.

If you ask us, Santa Clara is a true Cuba with its tourist-free back streets and smiling people.. There is no crowd of tourists in Havana, and naturally, the places for tourists have never been opened.. You know, it’s stuck as it was 20 years ago.. We liked that it stayed that way.

Santa Clara also has a famous tobacco factory.. If you have time, definitely stop by and go to the famous ice cream shop Cornalia.

We can’t recommend a Casa because we didn’t stay overnight in Santa Clara, but this is a very reliable site to find “Casa” and Cuba We hired all the casas we stayed in from this site.

Cienfuegos Travel Guide

This beautiful port city of Cuba is named after Camilo Cienfuegos, the hero who died the youngest in the Cuban Revolution.. Cuba’s most fertile land is in this city, and Fidel named it ‘Cienfuegos’ because he loved this city very much.

There is ‘Jose Marti Park’ in the heart of the city.. You can sit in the humble cafe of this park and sip your cocktails with great pleasure.. The city’s must-see cathedral is also in this square.. The name of the cathedral is ‘Catedral de la Purisima Conception’, but if you come to the park, it is impossible not to see the cathedral anyway, it is right next to it.. There is also a Cuban Theater in this square.. Cubans are very fond of art, and despite all their financial difficulties, art buildings are given great importance and the buildings are very well-maintained.

Again, ‘Prado Street’ in the center of the city is Cuba’s longest street and it’s tiny on the left and right. There are pizzerias, ice cream parlors and small shops that accept local pesos.

Cienfuegos is a quiet, friendly city where you can warm up right away.. There is no tourist crowd in Havana and it is a more ‘Cuban Cuba’ place.. If you have time, make sure to spend a day or two in this city and wander around its streets a lot.

This time our travel article was a series of articles rather than a travel article, but believe me, we did not want to miss any detail or beauty.. This proud country impressed us so much that even though it has been 2 months since we returned, its memories are fresh.. Our conversations continue uninterruptedly during dinners, such as “How beautiful this place was, how much we missed this place”.

We hope those who think that it has changed are wrong, but Cuba never changes.. We loved it so much that there is no country that can replace Cuba for the moment, and we sincerely wish you to go to Cuba as soon as possible and to visit the streets and witness its beauties.

Loves.
