DMZ Zone – Border of North Korea and South Korea

When I bought my South Korea ticket, the biggest wish in my mind and heart was to see the DMZ Zone, that is, to go to the North Korea and South Korea Border.. This so-called demilitarized zone is 250 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide; it was not formally ended, it was only established after the Korean War which ended in an armistice. And I was looking forward to seeing this place, to look at North Korea with the eyes of the world, albeit from afar! I want to take you to those moments with my text DMZ Zone – North Korea and South Korea Border.

Before I start, Youtube to accompany and travel with me on all my trips. Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel! You will find my Seoul and Busan Vlogs of my South Korea trip on the channel section by section.

Preliminary Information on the Korean War

North Korea’s South Korea with the support of China and the Soviets With the invasion of Korea to a large extent, the United Nations army, led by the United States, including Turkish soldiers, declares mobilization.

Citizens of 16 countries took part in this war between 1950 and 1953 in which millions of lives were lost.. There is definitely someone in your circle who took part in this war, became a veteran or died, or a relative of a friend.. That’s why it was even more important for me to see this buffer zone established after the war we were in.. After that, I went to the only United Nations martyrdom in the world in Busan and I experienced this feeling much more effectively.

A border separating families and friends because of the war.. Think about it, today there is a war and you are separated from your family and your closest friends because you are at two different ends of the country, and you are forced to live apart for life.

The war did not end in peace, in fact, only a truce was signed.. North Korea still today; by digging tunnels, it doesn’t look so calm with its nuclear power. Let’s see what the whole world is waiting for in the future.

If you don’t know how North Korea is governed and how the people living there are isolated from the real world, please research and read it after this article.. People are astounded.

As such, Visiting North Korea as a tourist is very difficult and since it depends on permissions, I have also visited this border area at least while I’ve been to South Korea. I wanted to see. Even if you can go to nice North Korea you see a theater. Whatever they want to show you. We can’t talk about a real trip.

Purchasing a Tour to See the DMZ

I went to the North Korean border! I can’t believe I just said that sentence. DMZ Zone (Demilitarized Zone); A massive buffer zone 250 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide, pseudo-demilitarized. There are literally a million soldiers of the north on the border with North Korea, and the south on the border with South Korea.. There is a peaceful life in a tense yet untouched nature like everything is a piece of cotton thread.

There is a perfect nature since no one lives in such a large area and people cannot enter at their own will.. It’s almost like an experimental field where you can see how pure and clean a world without human beings is . Rivers are flowing, everywhere is green, it is a very beautiful place with animals and plants.

As a matter of fact, you cannot enter here by waving your hand, you must have bought a tour to visit.. While I was researching before my trip I found DMZ Tours and bought the morning half day package for 50,000 Won. Prices range from 45 to 50,000 already.. They pick you up from the hotel and drop you off to the city center on the way back.. You get an English-speaking Korean guide.

Since you go very early in the morning and the pace of the tour is fast, you do not want to sit in cafes and have breakfast when there is no photography available.. Because your time is really limited. I think you should come with a sandwich. The road takes 1 hour from Seoul anyway.. You can take care of breakfast on the way. Pick up time of the tour is 07:00 and drop off time is 13:30. If you wish, there are also tours that cover the whole day where you can visit more places.

Your original passport must be with you.. No dress code. You can make the payment by cash or card on the day of the tour.. You can cancel your reservation free of charge up to 1 day before.

DMZ Region Travel Plan

The wheels of our bus rolled on the green roads filled with iron wires.

Imjingak Park – The Bridge of Freedom

Our first stop was Imjingak Park, where we saw a few corners describing the war.

One of them is the cruise in the park. What we saw from its terrace was the Freedom Bridge that is, Freedom Bridge.

Checkpoint

Then the soldiers got on the bus at Checkpoint and one by one. By looking at our passportsthey got the number of people we entered.. The same count was made at the exit.. It is forbidden to take photos or videos here.. They don’t want the soldiers and the border to be seen.

Dora Observatory

Later at the Dora Observatory to see North Korea with the eyes of the world we went to observe. Here, you can watch North Korea, which you can understand even from the sharpness of its mountains, with the telescopes you can use for free.. North Korea is located at exactly 12 o’clock. At 11 o’clock there is an inactive factory, at 1 o’clock there are houses in which no one lives at the moment.. And you see the the world’s largest flag with a record of 160 meters and 270 kilograms.. Looks like South Korea too. Once upon a time, they raced to surpass each other in size; The North won, the South was the one who gave up.

The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel

In a tunnel that is denied, although dug by North Korea, underground 1 I walked miles. It was AMAZING!

There are 4 such tunnels in the DMZ region, I visited the 3rd tunnel. This tunnel was detonated with dynamite and opened by North Korea. In fact, many people died during these processes.. Of course, North Korea does not accept this and denies that there is a mine, and the proof is the fake coals it put on the walls.

You walk 358 meters downhill to enter the tunnel and then walk through the 265 meters tunnel until the 3rd block.. 2nd. There are barbed wires in front of the window opening to the block and green plants behind it.. You walk 1 kilometer underground in total.

You are warned seriously when you enter, your health and psychology must be suitable. You wear a hard hat on your head. It makes sense to wear sneakers because it’s cold inside. So get something on you too.. You see the dynamite traces around you as you walk.. It’s not hard to breathe. Being crowded inside does not make it narrow. Before entering, you are asked to lock your belongings, phone, camera in the lockers.. It is forbidden to shoot. At the exit, there is a souvenir shop selling products you can only find here.. Get the DMZ magnet! And he sells North Korean whiskey!

DMZ Theater & Exhibition Hall

A documentary that tells you Korean War playing. Now you get goosebumps with the effect of what you see.

Dorasan Station

The last stop of the DMZ is the disused but once the closest station between the South and the North. We are going to Dorasan Train Station. In fact, if this station were open, the train route would go all the way to Europe. Our guide: “We wish it was open so much, how easy it would be for us to travel.”

The ticket office here sells a train ticket to Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, for commemorative purposes.. Its price is 1000 Won (less than $1). You can print a North Korean stamp on it.. It’s a wonderful memory.

I learned once again the truth of how destructive and how ridiculous war is through an unforgettable experience.. The nature in the untouched buffer zone is so beautiful and clean that the DMZ is like heaven.. Is there really good or evil in human nature? I can’t help but think.

It was one of the unforgettable moments in South Korea, where I traveled alone for 10 days.. If you’re going to Seoul, definitely don’t skip it.
