The possibility of snowfall in İzmir every winter drives the people of İzmir crazy. Shows of joy begin from a light snowflake flying in the air. The people of Izmir, running around on the streets and stunned, make sense of their longing for the land in all their actions.. The people of Izmir, who wait on the “probability of snow” in the weather forecast website and mobile phone programs, flock to the places where the snow stops, even if the snow does not come to the city, to see the snow at the center of all these actions. Our way fell to Karagöl, which does not give in.. After we set off, we decided on the route that could not appear in our minds even when we got in the car.
After including friends who want to accompany the idea of Karagöl, we turned the steering wheel to Karagöl in the shortest way, in order not to waste time.
While I was filling up LPG at the station we entered in order not to have fuel problems on the road, I was puzzled by the question of “I wonder if we could buy some gasoline”, and we found ourselves at the foot of Yamanlar Mountain. As soon as we passed Yamanlar, the gasoline warning light of the car showed itself.. I didn’t want to share Sezgin, Sultan, or Ferzan with this concern, while I was feeling the worry of “Is the car going with gasoline instead of LPG”.
Memories and memories…
This escapade center right next to Izmir, where I came to attend a scout camp in my last high school years, seems to have started to host more and more people with the discovery of Izmir every year. And we say that these places were discovered together when we see the excursionists advancing one after the other in the direction of going and returning while we are on our way to Karagöl, which can be reached in an hour depending on the road condition. Unprepared to hit the roads, we realize that we don’t even bring water with us.
While everyone is tender to each other that they haven’t even taken water, whining begins due to the narrow and sometimes holed nature of the roads.. While Sezgin complained about the cold, Sultan complained about barbecue and exhaust smoke; Ferzan talks about the possibility of falling asleep. While all these complaints are going on, I am experiencing the incredible feelings of sitting in the driver’s seat of a car with the fuel warning that just flashed in my head and I don’t know much about its technical equipment and maintenance. I go back to those days as I pass by the area where I joined the scout camp.. After a while, we turn our direction to Karagöl from the turn of the project that Karşıyaka Municipality implemented as an sports center. We also take a look at the Izmir Bay, which can be seen from afar.
Cars with snowmen
The windshield of vehicles turning from the opposite direction carefully placed little snowmen express once again the stage of the longing of the people of Izmir for the land.
I don’t think anyone would even think of coming to Karagöl in this cold weather if they didn’t have the opportunity to see snow anyway.
As I climb up and down the icy hills in second gear, I slow down with fear on the road where there is slight icing.
While my father’s advice, “The brakes are never applied on an icy road”, ringing in my ears, I brake lightly on the slippery road that is completely covered with ice. pressure, the Micra beneath us suddenly became its own axis. starts to spin. Fortunately, both our left and right are safe and away from the risk of cliffs.
I do not compromise my cool stance while experiencing panic at least 10 times as much as everyone else in the car.
Karagöl’ When we see the e 2 kilometer sign, we take a deep sigh and enter Karagöl from a road that has almost turned into a muddy sea after the control of the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs officer.
Unprepared team
We all start walking together on the shore of the lake, which has turned into a muddy sea with the melting ice despite the sneakers on my feet and the cold weather that I was caught unprepared for. I embark on the adventure of breaking the ice, which is my greatest pleasure.
While Ferzan is angry with himself for not taking his gloves, I try to break the ice with the stick in my hand by going down to the nearest step to the lake with the Sultan.
Breaking the ice despite all of Sezgin’s warnings While I’m enjoying my life, suddenly my foot slips and one of my feet enters the water, albeit a little.. As we get away from the scene with Sultan’s help, we burst out laughing with Sezgin’s “I warned you” gaze. We try to beat both the cold and the mud by walking through the mud, while making us think as if what is going to happen is certain.. We are constantly wishing that the people of İzmir do not discover Karagöl on the lake shore, where environmental pollution is evident. It is very nice to be able to come to a natural wonder point that is nearby.
Speaking of good, it is also good that many people from Izmir still haven’t discovered Karagöl (despite all those who have discovered it)…
