Food and Drink in Prague: Locations and Prices

Today I will touch on a subject that I have not written much before: Food Let me warn you in advance; I am not a gourmet, and what I will tell about food will not be a “Prague Food Guide” written by an expert.. But after visiting the city for the fourth time and mingling with the locals, I had 3-5 words to say about Eating and Drinking in Prague, and I wrote my humble notes.

What to Eat in Prague? / Eating and Drinking in Prague

Czech cuisine is based on cheap and easily accessible foods, and mainly pork and dough are used.. Potato love is completely different, you can see it in every dish or next to it.. As far as I can see, they do not have an extremely healthy eating habits.. Don’t be intimidated, most of Prague’s food is salty and oily, yet delicious and suitable for our taste.

If you want to have a good meal, I recommend you not to choose the Old Town area . Since the Old Town is the most touristic area of Prague, the service quality of the restaurants is low. For the good ones, you need to book a few days or even weeks in advance. There are some great places for dinner in Colony and Karlin. When you go to this region, especially in very cold winters, you can feel like you are throwing a ball.. In fact, the venues here are quite crowded, but there are fewer tourists. You may need to make a reservation before going to a place of your choice, but you do not need to act days in advance, just call a few hours before.

Credit cards are accepted in most of the places.. The situation of accepting Euros is very variable, do not rely on it. Mayonnaise is subject to an extra charge in all restaurants.. When you want it, they bring it right away, but they don’t say it’s extra.. Don’t be surprised when the bill comes in.

* Meat Dishes

Eat meat for at least one meal in Prague. I recommend. There are very successful steakhouses that appeal to all tastes. Don’t think that Schnitzel is good only in Vienna. Czech Republic may surprise you in this regard.. In addition, fried duck is among the must-haves.. My only warning about meat is this; If you don’t want to go hungry, don’t try a local dish without knowing the content.. Locals love to eat meat with jam or whipped cream on it.. For example, in the dish Svíčková, there is raspberry jam on the meat seasoned with salty cream.

* Soups / Eating and Drinking in Prague

Eating in Prague When it comes to drinking, it is impossible not to mention the soups.. Czech cuisine has a different understanding of soup. Soups with a lot of ingredients, usually vegetable-based, are like a meal on their own, they are very satisfying, but the interesting thing is that they can consume these soups as a starter and then have a main course.. The most famous soup you’ll find in Prague Guláš(Goulash). It goes under the name of soup, but it’s like the tas kebab we know, it has a lot of meat and vegetables in it.. Again, there is a point you should pay attention to; Guláš and Beef Guláštwo separate meals. Beef Guláš is a meat dish in the main course category, without vegetables, served with slices of bread, not soup.

Zelňačka (cabbage soup), Bramboračka (potato soup).

* Desserts / Eating and Drinking in Prague

Trdelník, which you can also find in Slovakia and Hungary, is Prague’s most famous dessert and one of the street delicacies. They bake a very light sweet dough by rolling it around a roll.. Obviously, its hollow state does not create a magnificent feast of taste, but if you buy it from a well-made place and add ice cream or nutella to it, it turns into a dessert that you can eat every day. Don’t buy from the first place you see when you want to try it.. I suggest you buy it from Good Food or Trdelník shops of the same name on the road from Old Town to Charles Bridge.

I mentioned that pastry has an important place in Czech cuisine.. Dessert part got its share from it too.. They have desserts that you will often find in hotel breakfasts, coffee shops or patisseries.. Kolačeone of them. To roughly describe the dessert, which has many different varieties, it is made by putting fruit, cream, or poppy on a round dough similar to Easter dough.. Another flavor you can try at a cafe where you take a coffee break is Strudel. You can think of it as a thick dough wrapped around the apple mixture and sprinkled with powdered sugar.

* Snacks / Eating and Drinking in Prague

The fast food culture is quite common in Prague. If you don’t want to spend money on eating at a good restaurant, you can find cheap but delicious alternatives.. I guess I ate too much street food because I always go at Easter or Christmas time.. It is not easy to resist the smells of food emanating from the established markets because. You can find small shops selling delicious pastries such as pizza and pies in metro stations, shopping malls or on the streets.

Chlebíček is the first flavor that comes to mind when it comes to snacks in Czech cuisine. Slightly larger versions of our sofas. Foreigners describe it as an “open top sandwich”. If you’re looking for a venue that’s just for this, there’s only one place everyone recommends, and that’s Sisters Bistro.. I did not have the opportunity to try the place, but I wanted to write it for those who want to go.

* Breakfast / Food and Drink in Prague

As you can imagine, the breakfast culture in Prague is much stronger than ours. away. Cheddar and Gauda cheese, all kinds of salami & ham & sausages, boiled eggs and pastries are the staples of hotel breakfasts.. If you are lucky you can find tomato-cucumber. When you want to have a loose breakfast with your coffee, coffee shops where you can find vegan alternatives can be a good choice.. I have mentioned some of these places below.. The place everyone recommends for breakfast in Prague is Cafe Savoy.

What to Drink in Prague? / Eating and Drinking in Prague

The most famous alcoholic beverage is, of course, Czech beer. There are many places where you can find homemade beer such as Prague Beer Museum, T-Anker, Lokál…. If you are interested in this subject, let me remind you that daily Beer Tours are organized.. The standard Czech beers you can find everywhere are Budweiser, Pilsner Urquell and Kozel.

Another Czech local drink is the world-famous liqueur Becherovka. For more information about Becherovka, click on the European Drinks article.

There is also an option for those who want to try a non-alcoholic but local beverage. Kofola, Czech non-alcoholic beverage and also local cola. During the communist era, they refused to consume coke and produced their own coke.. You can find it in markets and some restaurants.

There are 2 options on the menu as a meal: unlimited salad or unlimited salad & meat.. The salad section consists of all kinds of seafood, sushi rolls and nigiri you can think of, as well as various salads.. Sometimes there is a queue at the entrance, but you don’t have to wait long as the place is big.. There are also reasons why there is such a demand; quite an extensive menu, quality food and reasonable price. For example, I still can’t forget the brie cheese they serve with the roast duck.. Here It is actually an Apartment & Hostel, but there is a sweet cafe with the same name on the ground floor.. The most enjoyable part of the place we stopped by for Sunday breakfast is its backyard with sun loungers.. This place is a bit too local because they don’t even have an English menu but the staff is helpful in every way. I don’t know what name it is on the menu, but we both loved the “avocado toast” that Uğur ate.. You can check out her other photos on her @visitinncafe account on Instagram.

* The Pub

The Pub, which has 11 branches across Czechia a bar chain. It also has branches in locations such as Vienna and Berlin.. The concept of the place is based on drinking beer until it cracks. Everyone has a beer tap on their desk, you fill it up as you go.. There is also a screen by the bar, on this screen you can see the details of which table drank how much, in which branch it was drunk the most.. It’s like you’re in some kind of beer drinking contest.. If you enjoy drinking like a sponge or if you are out to have fun as a group, this place may be the right address for you.. But you should only come here for a beer, or the food may disappoint.

* James Dean Prague

“Let’s see some different decorated places.” if you want you can try James Dean in Old Town. The restaurant is completely decorated according to James Dean and his movies.. You can eat and drink at the classic car-shaped tables, or you can join the entertainment at the downstairs nightclub after midnight.. We were able to find a place here without reservation at a time when everything was packed during the Christmas market.. Burgers are not bad, can be tried. This is a coffee shop located in the Karlin region, especially famous for its desserts. The food prices were a bit high compared to Prague in general, but the coffee, breakfast and the music playing in the place were also very good.. Therefore, if you are looking for an alternative in these areas, I can recommend it with peace of mind.
