Giethoorn, unlike any place or village you have seen before, teleports you to the world of fairy tales as soon as you step in.. You won’t even realize how time flies while wandering around Giethoorn, with its large and small canals, mini bridges connecting the canals to the houses, streets that make you feel like you’re wandering in a labyrinth, and houses that look like a hut, each with its own unique hut.
It is obviously not easy to go to Giethoorn in Overijssel, which is not very close to Amsterdam. Since there is no direct public transport from Amsterdam to Giethoorn, we recommend that you set aside 1 full day here first if you have plans to come here.. It is not possible to see another place in the same day with your round-trip and sightseeing times.

HOW TO GET FROM AMSTERDAM TO GIETHOORN BY TRAIN
To get from Amsterdam by train to Giethoorn direction firstly Amsterdam Centraal train station. Complete the first step by going to the ticket office at the station and buying a ticket in the direction of Giethoorn. Afterwards, you take your train from the relevant platform and take a short journey of 20 minutes and arrive at Almere Centrum train station; here you have to get off and transfer by another train to Steenwijk stop. The distance between Almere Centrum and Steenwijk takes 1 hour and 10 minutes. After getting off in Steenwijk, the destination bus stop is; Catch the number bus from here and you’re in 12-minute Giethoorn. Congratulations, you have completed the challenging journey!
Your total train travel time to Giethoorn is approximately 3 hours, including transfer, train waiting times and walks, one round trip fee of the person 50€.

HOW TO GET GIETHOORN FROM AMSTERDAM BY CAR
For an easier way, you can hire a car to get from Amsterdam to Giethoorn. Frankly, when we saw the train ticket prices, we preferred to rent a car in order not to spend that much money and not have to deal with the world’s transfers.
Cenraal train station to rent a car from Amsterdam You can check the agencies around.. For example; we rented our car from Europcar’‘s Centraal branch for €60. Of course, if you have the opportunity to make your reservation in advance rather than at the last minute like us, you can reduce this amount to between 30-40 €.. The rest is entrusted to navigation; Since we did not pay any highway fees during the journey, we did not have any extra costs other than the 20€ gasoline payment.. It takes about 2.5 hours to reach Giethoorn from Amsterdam by renting a car.
