How to Get to Romania’s Transylvania Region

Actually, everything is that my dear friend Monica, whom I met while I was doing my master’s degree in France, sent me to Romania‘s Transylvania It started with her invitation to her wedding in the region.. Of course, when it comes to Transylvania, the birthplace of Count Dracula or Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Tepes), one gets a little scared.. But the invitation in question was from Monica.. Besides being my classmate, he was also my neighbor in Nice during the summer term.. When I received invitations like June, I could not afford to refuse this invitation.. Also, as those who follow me on social media will realize, I spent most of the summer at weddings and took firm steps towards becoming a wedding guru.. Naturally, I couldn’t refuse the opportunity to take the know-how I gained over the summer to an international level by attending a wedding in Europe.

So I made my flight ticket reservation. The wedding was to take place in Deva, Romania. Deva is located in the historical Transylvania region of Romania. Deva, where approximately 60 thousand people live in the west of Romania, is located in 37 countries of the country.. in big city. So it’s a small city even for Romania.

How to get to Deva, Romania?

To get here, you need to fly to Timoashara via Bucharest and take about 1 and a half hours from here. you have to travel an hour by car. The distance between Timoashara and deva is about 100 Km.

I chose the second alternative. I flew from Istanbul to Bucharest and reached Deva by car ride from Bucharest. THY, Tarom and Pegasus have direct flights to Bucharest from Istanbul. If you hold your hand early, it is often possible to find tickets to Bucharest in the band of 300-350 TL.

Leave Istanbul with a 7:50 morning flight and take a 1-hour flight. then I arrived at the international Bucharest Henri Coanda or alias Otopeni Airport. Here Sorin, one of Monica’s friends, greeted me. He and Sorin took our fellow travelers Aida and Dana.. We left Bucharest around 12.

Bucharest Deva Car Journey

The distance between Bucharest and Deva is approximately 375 km. However, this journey takes 6 hours.. Because there are not many highways between the two cities. In some places, you may experience a serious loss of time due to road construction.. You see vendors selling fruit on the roads, just like in Turkey.. We bought some grapes and roasted kernels on the way.. Frankly, they were both pretty delicious.

Where to Eat and What to Eat on the Road to Transylvania

After halfway through A unique road awaits you with the view of forests and Oltu (or Olt in Romanian name) River.. The Olt River is one of the most important tributaries of the Danube.. Another is the Mureş River in Deva.. The two rivers are said to be sister rivers.. There were many resting facilities on the way in this region where we started half way.. We came across many barbecue places.. We stopped at the Dodo Restaurant, located next to the unique view you can see above. Also, there are quite decent places to drink coffee at gas stations between Bucharest and Deva.. A good coffee and free wifi are waiting for you here.

Dodo Restaurant has more local dishes. Frankly, if you want to eat pizza and pasta, this is not the place for you.. They don’t sell these dishes here anyway.. All my Romanian friends I went with bought Bean Soup. By the way, the Romanian for soup is soup, beans are the same.. you just put a β€œdi” in between πŸ™‚ I didn’t eat it because it was served with pork, but frankly, I loved its presentation.

Continue the Transylvania Journey

After lunch break, we’re on our way again. Nearest center Sibiu along the way. Sibiu is quite an interesting city. It looks more like a German city than a Romanian city. I came to this city two years ago for a Porsche roadshow starting from Istanbul and ending in Budapest.. On this journey, we continued towards Deva without stopping by Sibiu.. However, if you have time, you can leave the Curtea de Arges junction on this road and both travel here and go to Sibiu from here on the Transfaragarasan Road.

Transfaragarasan The road is quite winding, built in the time of Ceausescu.. This road is only open during the summer months.. Driving here is very pleasant.. You can go to Romania just to drive on this road.. From Sibiu to Deva there is a road of about 100 km.. Most of this road is highway.. Highways are few but free in Romania.

Where to Stay in Deva, Transylvania?

We found ourselves in Deva around 6 pm.. After a barbecue at Monica’s family’s house in Deva, we went to Castelul Lupilor (Wolf Castle-Don’t call it actually a castle ) where we will stay.. About 15 km from Deva, this hotel is located in a small village, where you wake up with roosters.. Moreover, accommodation starts at 30 euros per night.

There are concept rooms as well as normal rooms.. Egypt, torture, princess, peasant room concepts that come to mind first. The room I stayed in was in peasant concept.. Concept rooms are 10 15 Euros more expensive.

The hotel prices include breakfast.. However, don’t expect to find many options for breakfast.. What is served one day may not be the same as what is served the next day.. When you make a simple request the next day, they usually get answers unfortunately.. Obviously, the service quality of the hotel is not very good in this respect.
