Places to visit in Ireland are of course not limited to the capital city of Dublin, of course. You have been to Ireland, you have seen Dublin and you have time to visit a few places around it, because you are a lucky person In this case, I will try to give you information about where to stop during your Ireland trip. From the world-famous natural formation of Ireland Cliffs of Moher to the places where the movie PS I Love You, which we all watch over and over again, was shot, and of course, how to get to the places I mentioned. You can find the details in this article.
For information about Dublin, you can read my DUBLIN TRAVEL GUIDE and DUBLIN TREATMENTS for places to visit in Dublin.
HOWTH
You can stop by Howth, a seaside town northeast of Dublin, for a nice walk. However, it is up to you how the right choice would be in the winter, as it is a town where the Irish go and stay in the summer.
This is the closest option to Dublin among the places to visit in Ireland. It is possible to arrive with a train journey of 25 – 30 minutes.. You can check the schedule of the DART train from the central Connolly, Tara or Pearse stations to Howth here. The round-trip ticket costs around 6 – 7 Euros and you can get it from the station when you go.
When you arrive in Howth you can walk around the whole thing, that’s what I did. If you want, you can also travel with 31 or 31B buses.. If just seeing the atmosphere is enough, wander through the houses, each cuter than the other, and arrive at the harbour.. Walk along the harbor watching Dublin Bay and return to Dublin with a final lunch break. That’s exactly how I did it If you have more time, it might be nice to stop by Howth Castle and see the National Transport Museum.
GLENDALOUGH
Meaning “the valley of the two lakes” in Irish, this southern region is located in the Wicklow Mountains National Park and is 1 km from Dublin city centre. up to .5 hours away. Natural beauties of the region and 6. Many tourists flock here to see its abbey, which was built in the 19th century.
An important detail; Starring Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler P.S. It is here that Holly meets Gerry in the movie I Love You (I mentioned in my Dublin article that Gerard Butler’s origins are based in Ireland.). Holly gets lost while searching for Wicklow Mountains National Park (she thinks she’ll find her somewhere, given the park name, but that’s the full name of the lush green area) and the Irish Gerry helps her, so they meet and get attracted to each other (of course, don’t expect a Gerry to pop up while you’re wandering around the area. ).
Basically based on Scottish history, Braveheart starring Mel Gibson The big battle scenes of the movie strong> were also interestingly shot in the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland, not Scotland.. You can see these areas on the way to Glendalough.
See Upper Lake and Lower Lake in Glendalough and see the magnificent scenery there and Green Road after a nice forest walk on it, 6 with a lot of people walking around. built in the century St.. You will arrive at the convent of Kevin’s Church. The towers of this monastery were made round so that they would not collapse in winter, because the angular towers were damaged more quickly by snow.. You will see that there are two towers, one with the monastery and the other standing next to it separately.. First, the tower above the monastery was built, but when this tower remained among the trees and was not visible, people had trouble finding the monastery.. Thus, the construction of the taller tower, which stood alone, began.
There are buses from Dublin for Glendalough, round trip cost 20 Euros. The ticket can be bought inside the bus. Here is the website for hours and detailed information.
You can go to Glendalough as a one-day tour with Kilkenny by bus from Dublin, that’s what I did. I think it makes more sense to go with a tour, as the road is long, it is necessary to stop at more than one place and they give detailed information about the regions.. The company I went to was Collins Day Tours, ticket 33 Euros and student 28 Euros. Price includes round-trip transportation and guide. The website is here, you can buy the ticket from the website and choose the point where you will board the bus.
KILKENNY
The smallest and most ancient city in Ireland, Kilkenny is located in southeast Ireland about 2 hours from Dublin.. Irish people usually go here on the weekends and it has become a popular place due to the liveliness of the nightlife.
Although I think the daily tour with Glendalough, which I mentioned above, is the best option, if you only want to see Kilkenny, you can take the Bus from Dublin. It can be reached by Eireann buses.. The website is here.
You can also see the following places in Kilkenny, whose historical streets are very pleasant to walk:
Kilkenny Castle: This top-of-the-line castle and garden overlooks the Nore. It’s free and sufficient to get around, I think, but you’ll need to buy a ticket if you get inside.
Dominican Black Abbey Church: The inside of this church, which is free to enter, is quite beautiful. Unlike other churches, it was not a cross, it was L-shaped because the flood took away one side (There is a river right next to it). Therefore, the windows on that side are not as flashy as the others, but simply made.
St. Canice’s Cathedral: Ireland’s St.. It is the second largest cathedral after St. Patrick’s Cathedral.. If you are ready to climb 128 steps, you can watch the most beautiful view in Kilkenny from the top of the tower for 3 Euros.
Hibernian Hotel, one of the places recommended by the tour guide, for dinner I ate at strong>’s restaurant and I was satisfied with its hamburger.. Drinking Guinness beer with it is always recommended for Ireland You can also try Kilkenny’s local beer.
CLIFFS OF MOHER
Located in Clare in southwestern Ireland This is a magnificent place consisting of cliffs and cliffs.. Although it requires a grueling journey of around 5 hours from Dublin (depending on the mode of transport and route), Cliffs of Moher stands out among the places to visit in Ireland as the most visited natural formation in Ireland.
The method of transportation is explained on the website, but you may need to transfer several times by public transport, so I recommend choosing tours for How to get to Cliffs of Moher. You can check here for a sample one, adult fee is 45 Euros. To make sure that the tour you have chosen departs from Dublin (I assume you are staying in Dublin), be sure to review its route, as it is a touristic place, Cliffs of Moher tours are also organized from other cities of Ireland.. It would be good if the tour you took stopped by the city of Galway, even if it is a small city, I think the short city tour was enjoyable.
Do not go to Cliffs of Moher on a foggy or misty day, remember that it will be a long and tiring journey and the cliff If you can’t see the view from the top, it won’t be worth the effort.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince The scene where Professor Dumbeldore fights against his enemies was shot in Cliffs of Moher.
