The Kartepe ski resort, located within the borders of Kocaeli, has developed very rapidly thanks to its proximity to Istanbul, but due to its rapidity, it could not show a correct development and its potential could not be fully utilized.
<
Kartepe ski resort was a project that first came to the fore in 1974, but its construction and opening turned into a snake story. was not suitable for. In the following years, new transport systems were made and became suitable for skiing.. Although I don’t remember the exact date, I did my first ski on this track in 2009 or 2010.. The number and length of the tracks were not high, but since it was very new, the tracks were calm and there was no density.. Also, Istanbul traffic was less at that time and we could commute very comfortably for the day. The density increased day by day with the effect of being close.. Of course, it’s nice to hear about ski centers, people come here and get to know this sport, but no investment has been made to meet the intensity.. In addition, skiing has become almost impossible since those who come here do not have a purpose to get to know the sport of skiing.. Rumors of a separate chair lift for pedestrians have circulated for years, but while we were waiting for this chair lift to be built and the density to decrease, Arab tourists also discovered this place.. Adding their density, this place ceased to be a ski center in our eyes.. If we look at the attitude of the establishment, it seems that they are now targeting people who come to visit, not skiers.
And there was no problem like traffic in the past, but now the traffic that starts in the hotel’s car park on the way back continues to Istanbul, especially if it’s snowing. traffic is becoming unbearable.
We last went to Kartepe ski resort in 2017; on the way up the mountain in the morning there was traffic and the parking lot was full we could barely get up and throw ourselves on the track. It was even difficult to reach the runway from the crowd of pedestrians and those taking pictures at the beginning of the runway.. The tracks were not crushed properly, after 2-3 laps, the pedestrians, who had finished their breakfast and photo session, started to descend to the track, so the chairlift got busy.. We waited in line for a minimum of 20 minutes, while it took an average of 15 minutes to go up under normal conditions, it took 20-25 minutes due to the slowing down or even stopping of the chairlift due to those who fell or could not get down.. In other words, it would take 45-60 minutes for our turn to come up and to go up, even if the runways were long, it could still be bearable, but it did not take even 5 minutes to descend from the runway we went up during this time, so the taste of the job was lost.. In addition, especially Arab tourists walking unconsciously on the slopes with their snowmobiles posed a serious risk, thanks to our 5-minute descent, it was also tasteless.
In short, Kartepe Ski Center is a place we do not think of going again, at least. A place where we will not go skiing before a new facility is built, maybe you can go for sausage bread or for a different purpose.. Our choice for daily skiing is Kartalkaya, for questions such as how we go and how long it takes, you can review our Kartalkaya Ski Center article.
