The real name of Kos island is actually Kos. The name Kos began to be used after the island passed to the Greeks.. Kos Island Is a Visa Required for ?
Since Kos Island is a Greek island, visa is required. Here you have 2 alternatives for visa. You can enter Kos by obtaining either a Schengen Visa or a Door Visa. You can find the details about the gate visa at this https://bujuyollarda.com/greece-kapi-vizesi/. In my opinion, it is much better to get a Schengen visa rather than a gate visa.. In the meantime, let me say right away that during the pandemic, you should research the subject of entry and exit to Greece well!
What’s Kos Island Like?
Kos Island, which we stayed for 3 months and adopted as our home, is a really beautiful place with all its parts.. Kos Island pleased us very much with its beaches, restaurants, villages and exquisite air.. In general, we did not encounter any problems on the island.. Everything is as it should be in Kos. If you are looking for calm, peace and want to have a nice holiday, Kos Island will make you happy.
Kos Island Do you need to rent a car in ?
If you are going to Kos Island for a day, I think there is no need to rent a car.. As you can see on the map below, the places to visit in the island center are very close to each other.. Only Asklepion Ancient City and Platani Village are a bit outside the city center.. If you want to go there, you can take a bus.
If you want to go outside the island center and you haven’t come to the island for a day, you can rent a car.. In fact, renting a car will make sense in terms of time savings.. There are places where you can rent a car in the center of Kos.. We rented cars from a place called “Kos Executive Car” during our stay on the island.. Owner Gerasimos was very helpful and a nice person. I can recommend this place at the car rental point.
Kos Island Urban Transportation
Urban transportation on Kos Island is quite simple because the island is already small.. If you are going to the island for a day, you will probably spend your time in the center.. Apart from this, you can reach the places that I have explained below and which are far from the center of Kos, by bus or rental car.. You can get information from this link for the departure location and timetable of the buses used in Kos island city transportation..

Places to Visit in Kos Island
List of Places to Visit in Kos Island, which is very close to Bodrum as follows. In general, I tried to write all the places for you.. While writing these places, the order was made according to the proximity positions on the map.. So everything is designed for you to easily plan your trip. 🙂
Kos is an island with history, natural beauties, a beautiful sea, beautiful beaches and beautiful streets where you can shop.. Kos is also the hometown of Hippocrates, the father of medicine. You can spend your time here to the fullest and return to Turkey in peace.. We start our list of Kos Island places to visit with Neratzia Castle.
Neratzia Castle (Neratzia Castle)
Neratzia Castle, also known as the Knights Castle, was built by the Knights of Saint John, and then in 1380, 4 more towers were added against the Ottoman attacks and took its current form.. In 1523, the Ottomans captured the castle and kept it under their protection until 1912.. Neratzia Castle is permanently closed due to the earthquake in 2017. Because the Greek government doesn’t have the budget to build this place.. Even though the castle is closed, do not forget to take pictures on the bridge leading to the entrance gate of the castle. 🙂 Location here.
Tree of Hippocrates
Tree of Hippocrates is located right in front of the entrance of Neratzia Castle. It is believed that the pioneer of medicine, Hippocrates, taught his students under this old sycamore tree.. The tree is surrounded by iron bars and there is also a small fountain here.. It was a great pleasure for us to cool off in the shade of the trees here.. The location of the Tree of Hippocrates is here.
Algeria Hasan Pasha Mosque
The Gazi Hasan Pasha Mosque, which you will see right next to the Hippocratic Tree, was built in 1786 by the Algerian Gazi Hasan Pasha Mosque, after which it was named.. Since the mosque is made of cut stone, its architecture looks very beautiful.. Unfortunately, the mosque was seriously damaged by the 2017 Kos earthquake.. Right next to the mosque you will see a lion statue. This lion statue was built in honor of the lion that Gazi Hasan Pasha, who once paid tribute to the USA, tamed and took around with him.. Heytttt beeee.:) Location is here.
Eleftherias Square ( Eleftherias Square)
We continue our list of places to visit in Kos island with Eleftherias Square. Eleftherias Square, also known as Freedom Square, is the most central point of Kos.. There is the Municipality Market (Agora) on one side of the square, the Defterdar Mosque on the other, and the Kos Archeology Museum on the other.. You can take a breather and taste frappe, the famous drink of Kos, in this very large square.. The location of the square is here.
Kos Municipal Market
When you say
Municipal Market , don’t think of our markets. You can find fake things from our culture here. Baklava, kadayif etc. These products are sold in packages, you pour honey on it and eat it.. of course you can eat. This is an insult to Antep baklava.. Then, wow, is the baklava ours or the Greeks Joking aside, you can buy souvenirs, local products, alcohol, fruit and vegetables from Kos Municipality Market..
Defterdar İbrahim Pasha Mosque
Defterdar located in Eleftherias Square İbrahim Pasha Mosque was built in 1724 by the Finance Manager of Kos, İbrahim Pasha (Defterdar İbrahim Pasha) during the Ottoman period.. Unfortunately, in the earthquake that took place in Kos in 2017, this place also suffered a lot of damage.. While this beautiful Ottoman Mosque was open for worship before the 2017 Kos earthquake, it was unfortunately closed for worship after this earthquake.. The condition of the mosque itself and its fountain is deplorable.. I hope it will be restored one day. Location here.
Kos Archaeological Museum
<
We wouldn’t be exaggerating if we say that every place you print on Kos Island is history and every place is culture.. While walking around the center, you will come across many ancient ruins.. Here are the things unearthed from these ancient cities are exhibited in the Kos Archaeological Museum located in Eleftheria Square.. On the first floor of the museum, which has two floors, there are sculptures (the goddess of wild nature and hunting, Artemis, the god of wine Dionysus) and mosaics.. On the second floor, you can see jewelry, coins and ceramics.. Kos Archaeological Museum entrance fee 6 Euro. The museum is closed on Mondays. On other days, you can visit the museum between 08:00 and 20:00 in the morning..
Location here.
Church of Agia Paraskevi
The Agia Paraskevi Church, which you will see just behind Eleftheria Square, was severely damaged in the 2017 Kos earthquake. It was so damaged that the columns of the church fell to the ground and the plaster was scattered around.. The church is currently closed to visitors. Unknown when it will open. Location is here.
Footnote: For your information, the yellow flag that you will usually see at the entrance of churches in Greece is the Byzantine Flag.
The Ancient Agora of Kos
Kos Island had an important place in the ancient world. You understand this while visiting the island.. History oozes from everywhere. One of these ancient ruins is the Ancient Agora. Unfortunately, the Agora has not survived until today.. Ancient Agora, which was used as the commercial and social center of the island in ancient times, is located in the center of Kos.. Agora has multiple entrances and admission is free. Location here.
Casa Romana (Roman Houses)
The Casa Romana Houses, which has recently undergone a very serious restoration, is a 36-room villa belonging to a wealthy family living in the Roman period.. This is a place that allows you to learn about the daily life and architectural understanding of Roman civilization.
Casa Romana is located a little outside the center of Kos but within walking distance.. Closed on Mondays, open between 08:00 and 20:00 on other days. Entrance fee to Roman houses 6 Euros per person. Location here.
Roman Odeon of Kos
The Roman Odeon, located on the street where Casa Romana is located, is a mini ancient theater with a capacity of approximately 750 people.. This theater used to host concerts and painting exhibitions from time to time.. The entrance to the theater is free and you can easily walk here from the center.. If you are lucky, you can also visit the rooms under the theater.. We had traveled and it seemed quite mysterious. Location here.
Lambi Beach (Lambi Beach)
If you want to swim in the center of Kos first think of Lambi Beach. In Lambi, you can either benefit from the businesses here or you can swim by your own means.. As I said, Lambi Beach is very close to the center, it is a place where you can go on foot and bike very comfortably.. The sea is pebble and clear. You can swim with fish like musler. We used to go here every chance we got when we stayed in Kos.. One day we got caught in the rain when we went into the sea, but it was a very legendary situation.. It is very, very enjoyable to swim in the sea when it is raining. 🙂 The location of Lambi Beach is here.
Therma Beach (Therma Beach)
Yes, we are slowly starting to move out of Kos centre.. Therme Beach is located 12 km from Kos Center. We rented a bike and went back, but after a certain part of the road, the bike path ends and you drive by the cars on the main road.. Have the slopes started, woe to you?. So we suggest you go here by bus or car.. The thermal spring emerges from the area surrounded by stones such as a natural pool and the water is sulphurous. Although the smell may bother you at first, you get used to it partially.
I don’t know how possible it is to enter this water in the summer heat of noon.. Because the water was way too hot for even my feet to bear.. It is also possible to get out of here and create a shock effect on the body in the cool waters of the sea.. I recommend that you take plenty of water and food with you when you come to Therme.. There are no businesses here. The location of Therme Beach is here.
Platani Village (Turkish District)
As I mentioned above, there are around 3000 resident Turks living in Kos.. Turks reside in Platani Village, formerly Germe. Platani Village is 3 km from the center of Kos.. If you like walking, you can go here on foot or by bike.. 2 that caught our attention on the road. You can visit the Jewish cemetery from World War II and the cemetery from the Ottoman period.
Travellers visit Platani Village because of the Turkish restaurants here. In general, restaurants in Kos serve seafood.. If you are one of those who do not like seafood and cannot give up on Turkish cuisine, you can dine at Turkish restaurants in Platani Village.. I will write detailed information about restaurants in the “What to Eat on Kos Island” section below.
Asclepion Ancient City
Ancient structures occupy an important place among the places to visit in Kos Island. The most important of these is Asclepion Ancient City. The ancient city of Asklepion was used as a medical center in ancient times.. It was named after Asclepius, the god of medicine and health. The snake wrapped in a staff, which is the symbol of pharmacy today, belonged to Asklepios.. I am very afraid of snakes, but the blessed animal can instinctively find herbs.. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, was educated here.. Asklepion, which has a panoramic view of Kos, consists of 3 parts separated by stairs.. Entry fee 8 Euros. This place is open every day of the week until 19:30.. Location here.
International Hippocratic Foundation
<
International Hippocratic Foundation where you can find many things about Hippocrate, father of medical science, philosopher, scientist, author and doctor. This is a beautiful museum that may interest you, including ancient treatment methods, alternative medicine drugs, Hippocrates’ botanical garden, and old medical books.. The museum also has classrooms, conference rooms and meeting rooms where lecturers and students from medical faculties teach.
We loved the museum, the only area we could not benefit from was the botanical garden.. There are small signs next to each tree, plant.. There are names written on them, even if they have been deleted, and there are Qr codes to notify you when you read them on the phone.. However, most of the redirected sites were not working.
The Hippocratic Foundation is located very close to Asklepion.. You can click here for the location. The museum opens at 09:00 and closes at 18:00 every day of the week.. Entry fee is 6 Euros.
Wine Roads
When you leave the center of Kos and head towards the south side of the island, you will see Wine Roads signs. There are many wine houses on the way. You can choose and visit any of these wine houses. Operators introduce you to their factories inside and you can taste wine.. If you wish, you can open a bottle of wine and sip your wine with the view of the vineyards, or you can buy the wines here.
Zia Village
One of the most beautiful places on our list of places to visit in Kos island we came. Although Zia Village is the first route after wine roads in terms of location, I suggest you save it for the sunset after visiting the southern part of the island.. As a couple who lived on the island for 3 months and turned it upside down, our favorite place was Zia Village.. Zia Village gives you a lot of things you want with its gift shops where you can shop, cute cafes, beautiful panoramic views, and wonderful sunsets.. In the continuation of the village, there is Dikeos Peak that you can climb if you want to trekking.. Definitely make good use of this place.
Marmari and Tigaki Beaches
Marmari and Tigaki beaches are like twin sisters. There is a small lake between them.. Both beaches are sandy. It is possible to rent sunbeds and umbrellas here.. You can also do water sports if you wish.. For those looking for alternative activities, there is a farm close to these two beaches where you can go go-kart and horseback riding.. If you want to ride horses on the beach and take photos, you can get information by clicking here.
Mastihari Village
A beach like Tigaki and Marmari, something a place with cafes where you can eat and drink Mastihari The Village. The beaches of Mastihari, which is 22 km away from the center of Kos, are sandy and quite beautiful.. We chose to just see and pass this place because we like pebble sea, so we hid ourselves in Kefalos. 🙂 The location is here.
Antimachia Castle (Antimachia Castle)
Antimachia Castle is a castle you can stop by on the way. Its great walls and scenery are quite interesting.. There are two small churches inside the castle.. The castle is rather neglected and left to itself.. If you have time, you can also visit here.. Let me state that a car is required to reach here.. Location here.
Kardamaina
Kardamaina Village, one of the quiet towns of Kos. It is located 28 km from Kos city centre.. The town with a population of 1800 was once a small fishing village, but today it is one of the most touristic settlements of Kos.. Mostly preferred by young people, Kardamaina is famous for its nightlife and white sandy beaches.. Beautiful restaurants, bars, nightclubs and Greek streets await you in Kardamaina. The sea here is very clean and quite beautiful.. It is very close to Kardemena Kos Airport.. Location here.
Camel Beach (Camel Beach)
The most beautiful beaches in Kos, in my opinion, are located on the Kefalos side. A clean, glassy sea awaits you on these beaches.. You think you are in an aquarium while swimming here.. One of the most beautiful beaches in Kefalos Camel Beach. You need to go down a path to reach Camel Beach.. Here’s a small business on its own. If you want, you can hang out on the beach by your own means.. Umbrella and 2 sunbeds fee 10 Euro. The beach is sandy, the sea is shallow. The location of Camel Beach is here.
Agios Stefanos Beach ( Agios Stefanos Beach)
Historical ruins await you among these beautiful beaches of Kefalos. When you go down the road to Agios Stefanos Beach, you will immediately see this Basilica.. When we went, archeological excavations were started slowly.. It can be much more beautiful if the mosaics visible under the floor are revealed.. On the small island opposite you will see a small church with a blue dome.. Those who can swim well can swim here.
Kefalos Village
Kos Island When you come to Kefalos, which is the most beautiful place on the list of places to visit in my opinion, Kefalos will offer you its uniquely beautiful beach, clear sea and perfect view.. I strongly recommend you to go snorkeling here.. The sea is so clear that swimming with the fish is an excellent feeling.. Oh, and the beach of Kefalos is not crowded even in the summer season, it is a very calm place.. If you want to have a bird’s eye view of Kefalos, you should continue from the direction you came to Kefalos Beach and go to the Old Castle on the winding road.. Click here to capture the exquisite view as a location.
Paradise Beach (Paradise Beach)
One of the alternative beaches to Kefalos one of the Paradise Beach is a true hidden paradise. Located at the farthest point of the island. Paradise Beach has a beautiful beach and scenery. You can benefit from the business located here for sunbeds and umbrellas.. Two sunbeds and an umbrella cost 10 Euros. The road to Paradise beach is a bit dangerous. Be careful.. There is no need here when there is Kefalos Beach. The location of Paradise Beach is here.
