We’re not going to lie, we didn’t know much about either Ljubljana or Slovenia until we set foot there.. The information we had was mostly based on map data; Somewhere between Italy, Austria, Croatia and Hungary, a small country. Probably a green place. (Yes, at this point, we were not aware that he was the master of greens) People are yellow and its air can be included in the generalization of Central Europe, and reading the name of its capital makes one similar to Tansu Çiller’s effort to call it a hallucination.. The name of the city is like a random laugh. (see asdajsd) Not very important information, right? Then something happened, somehow we embarked on a joint project with Ljubljana Tourism Office, Slovenian Tourism Office and Turkish Airlines and now we may even know Slovenia better than some of the Slovenian people.
Before we begin, we would like to thank our dear Nika, Brigita, Sasa, Peter and Karmen, who helped us plan this trip in the best way possible, showed us around and made this article possible.
Now to the rest of the article. let’s continue as a “knower” and praise Slovenia a little;. Well? In other words, we are talking about a strange little place where even if you spend 3 days in the city, you can see a person you meet again in the future, and a dog you love can run to you enthusiastically after 2 days.. When this situation is combined with the incredibly friendly people of Slovenia, the situation results in 13 friends and 33 acquaintances in three days, as you know, one of the most enjoyable aspects of traveling is the people you add to you.. Imagine that during our one-week trip to Slovenia, we were seen chatting and drinking coffee with 70+ aunts, and watching a metal concert with people of our own age…
*The country is incredibly green.. It is so green that at some points we got dizzy from the excess oxygen that shocked our body after a city like Istanbul, at some points we found ourselves hugging trees, I guess 300 of the 1000-odd photos we took consist of forests and wooded areas.. Let’s come with official data if you don’t believe us, Slovenia is one of Europe’s 3 greenest. country and Ljubljana received the title of “Green Capital” this year.
*What would you say, Slovenian cuisine is really good! You know, food is incredibly sensitive to us, we don’t play on your feelings by ranting about what we don’t like, so you can really trust us on this one.. Because it is somewhere between many different cultures, you encounter different tastes all over the country.. A taste unique to Austria comes out of one place, Italian flavors from somewhere, and flavors unique to Slovenia from another, you will lose your mind! We are talking about flavors that you can miss even when you return to Turkey if you eat in the right places, don’t worry, we will detail that subject.
*You may think of a very quiet city because we said a small country, but there is no such world.. We passed everything, there are plenty of Erasmus students in the capital Ljulbjana. Are you Erasmus? Of koos darlin. A city with a large number of Erasmus students is always fun, everyone who has not done Erasmus knows this.. You can also pass Ljubljana through the middle of the river, canal, etc.. We can also include the generalization that the passing cities are fun in its quota.. Regardless of day and night, especially around the canal is very active, it is impossible to get bored.. There is also the fact of Metelkova, of course, we will talk about it below
*Although it is a small city, another feature of Ljubljana is that it contains dozens of museums and art galleries.. Moreover, we are talking about the places that you want to visit in detail and in detail.. Since the state supports artists, both the artist and the work to be exhibited are very popular in Slovenia.. We were jealous, enticed, loved.
*If you are interested in extreme sports, Slovenia is a paradise for you! In fact, we would like to repeat the sentence from the specific to the general, if you are not interested in extreme sports but only in sports, Slovenia is a paradise for you! Cycling is common, hiking, trekking, water sports are all incredibly popular, and wherever you are in the country, there are dozens of areas where you can do these sports.. Also, it would not be an exaggeration to say that we have not seen a Slovenian who is not interested in sports.. So that’s what it’s like to grow up in nature.
What Route Did We Follow in Slovenia?
How was Slovenia throughout Slovenia before embarking on the Ljubljana travel guide? We thought we wouldn’t pass without mentioning that we were following a route.. These things usually seem complicated to people, but there is really nothing to be confused about.. As we have already mentioned, since it is a small country, the distances are very short and if you want, you can rent a car and stay in different places, or if you want, you can take Ljubljana as the center and move to another region every day from there, the decision is yours.. We preferred to stay in different regions.. If you want to see the places we have seen in Slovenia, here is the route you should follow:
Ljubljana – Kamnik & Velika Plenina – Bled – Bohinj- Postojna – Moment of silence, National Anthem and Closing. Best regards…
Ljubljana Travel Guide: When to Go to Ljubljana?
When to go to Ljubljana, we should not think specifically about Ljubljana.. Because especially if you have a few days, you will want to combine this trip with other parts of Slovenia.. As we mentioned above, Slovenia offers you so many options, especially if you are looking for a nature-focused trip, it would be a mistake to focus only on Ljubljana.. For this reason, your personal interests will guide you when you go to Ljubljana.. If we approach the subject according to the season;
Summer in Slovenia: According to the information we received from the locals, the air temperature in Slovenia and Ljubljana in particular can reach 35 degrees in summer.. Since this period is also the most touristic period of the country, the intensity and the Asian tourist population, who perceive the world only through the camera, may annoy you from time to time.. However, since it is not a very crowded country, it is certain that it will not turn into an unmanageable situation.. The best part of going here in summer is that you have the chance to swim in natural wonders such as Bled and Bohinj . In summary, if you are resistant to heat, you can go in summer.. Even during this period, if you are going to higher or mountainous areas outside of Ljubljana, you may need to pack something thick.
Winter in Slovenia: We will intimidate you first and then relax you.. In Slovenia, the air temperature in winter can drop to minus degrees.. DIN DIN DIN. (horror movie effect) But this winter, friends, what are you waiting for, are you going to wear clogs? At this point, the plus points for you are less tourists, a quieter city, more affordable prices.. Cons? The possibility of a cold, flu, the situation that what you wear in Turkey is not enough to keep you warm there, and many more.. But of course, if you intend to ski, of course, it makes the most sense to go in the winter.
Spring Months in Slovenia: We came to our favorite spring months.. In our opinion, the most ideal time to go to Slovenia is definitely spring.. Because you are going in a period when the tourist density does not increase much, the weather is moderate, and you can enjoy nature sports.. Of course, there are exceptions. For example, when we went in mid-May and tried to climb the Velika Plenina region, we struggled with quite a bit of snow.. Since we are talking about a mountainous area, you can consider snow to be normal, but even locals found it very strange to snow, which is not normal to say… Spring months can also be pretty crazy rainy and evenings can be quite cool, keep in mind.
Ljubljana Travel Guide: Getting to Ljubljana
We didn’t know it was this easy to get there until we got to Slovenia.. Since Turkish Airlines has two flights a day, morning and evening, and the journey takes 1.5 – 2 hours, we think you can even go for a weekend trip just to see Ljubljana.. Since there will be daily flights from Istanbul to Ljubljana as of June 2016, it is a very convenient city to go on Friday evening and return on Sunday evening.
*There is zero chance of any confusion regarding transportation in Ljubljana.. Because as a tourist, the points you will visit will be extremely close to each other and you will very likely walk to most of them.. If you don’t like walking around, you can rent a bike and travel that way as it is an extremely flat city.. They have a system called BicikelJ System to rent a bike. If you register to the system via the link we have provided, you can pick up your bike from the bike stations located in many parts of the city and then drop it off at the closest point to you.. There is more detailed information on the subject at the link.
*If you want to move from Ljubljana to other parts of Slovenia, the most sensible thing to do is to rent a car.. When we asked if there were other alternative ways for this, we were sure of this thought when we received the suggestion that renting a car is the most logical method from everyone.. There is hardly any traffic in Slovenia, the roads are very smooth and renting a car is not very expensive.. If you want suggestions, we rented our vehicle from Sixt located at the train station and then delivered it to the airport branches.. Thus, we did not have to pay an extra fee for transportation to the airport.
*If you rent a car and go to other parts of Slovenia, you will encounter paid passes in between.. At this point, the company you are renting a car from should be giving you something similar to a sticker.. Think of it like our OGS – HGS conversation.. In this way, the paid pass will not be a problem for you.. However, when you rent, make sure you talk about it so you don’t have to deal with a ridiculous problem later on.
*It takes about 20 minutes to reach the center from Ljubljana Airport.. If you decide to go by taxi, the fare is around 50 Euros, so it cannot be said that it is very convenient.. (we are speaking politely, swear while you are reading for us) If you do not have the number of people to share the taxi fare, the resort is a bus. You can find its hours here.
Ljubljana Travel Guide: Accommodation in Ljubljana
Prepare a list titled The benefits of being small in Ljubljana and include it in it. If we were to include 10 items, the first thing would be: No matter where you stay, you are always close to the places you want to see! Oh, long live walking everywhere comfortably, long live the farthest distance not exceeding 1.5 km. As a result, aren’t we still in the heart of the city? of course we stayed. If you’re after a hygienic and cool hostel that offers affordable accommodation and isn’t messy, we can definitely recommend Hostel Tresor’.. Tresor, which has become this way with the conversion of an old bank into a hostel, is one of the hostels where you can go and laugh at your own hotel, even if you can’t find anything to do tonight.. The audience is young, the staff is very entertaining, the Benetton catalog is as diverse as the location, the location is truly magnificent, and there are double rooms if you wish.
Is Ljubljana Expensive?
If we consider Ljubljana and even Slovenia in general, you can relax a bit about the budget.. Because compared to many European cities, Slovenia cannot be said to be an expensive country.. In other words, we are not saying that it is as cheap as Serbia or Bosnia, but it is still very affordable, especially next to cities such as Paris and London.. Probably because it is not a very touristic city, even in the heart of Ljubljana, you do not come across such crazy prices that you feel like you are being screwed.. Let’s give examples of our spending throughout Ljubljana to explain the situation;
Water: 1 – 2.5 Euros (in restaurants)*
Coffee: 1.50 – around 2.50. (latte etc.)
Beer: 2 – 3.5. (50 beers)
Cocktail: between 4 – 7 Euros.
Main course in an average restaurant: 7 – 12 Euros
Main meal in a good restaurant: 13 – 22 Euros (it can go wrong when there is meat)
Gasoline: 1 liter, 08 euro (for diesel) If you travel an average of 400 km with a diesel vehicle, gasoline costs about 19 euros.
*Tap water is drinkable and its taste is not bad at all, it costs less than water. we saved it, let’s do it again.
Ljubljana Travel Guide: Places to Visit in Ljubljana
Now we tell you the city is small, everything is close, wow sir You may have thought that there are few places to visit in Ljubljana because we said that you see once you see it again.. We condemn you and we have prepared words for you… There are dozens of museums, many squares, plenty of cute cafes & restaurants and areas that will surprise you in Ljubljana.. So don’t think that you will spend a weekend in this city and stay calm, your days will be full, and if you get caught up in the nightlife, you will even have to make an effort to grow something.
Before entering our list of places to visit in Ljubuljana. first note: You can consider purchasing the Ljubljana Card to make your budget a little bit more affordable.. 20 Euros for 24 hours, 27 Euros for 48 hours and covers many places you will want to visit in the city.. You can also buy tickets via the link we have provided, you can also check the places covered by the card.
Preseren Square
Assuming that every city has a main square, Ljubljana ‘s one is Preseren Square. The square takes its name from one of Slovenia’s most famous poets, France Preseren. You can also see Preseren’s statue and the Franciscan Church, which will attract your attention with its pink color, in the square, which is located in the heart of the city and is only open to pedestrians.. Despite all this, the main attraction of the square is definitely Triple Bridge, we will talk about it below.
Triple Bridge
Here is Ljubljana’s most interesting attraction One of its attractions is Üçlü Köprü with its Turkish name.. They named it quite logically, because it really has an interesting architecture consisting of a combination of three bridges.. The most popular of the several bridges over the Ljubljanica River that runs through the middle of the city, the Triple Bridge actually dates back to 1280.. After having survived some disasters such as fire and earthquake, this long-suffering bridge is handed over to Jose Plecnik, who can be considered the Gaudi of Ljubljana, and thus takes its present form.. The reason why Plecnik designed the bridge in such an interesting way was to leave the middle area for trams and vehicles to pass, and the sections to the right and left for pedestrians.. He’s a smart guy, good luck Plecnik Baba.
*It’s not easy to photograph the bridge in a way that fits that interesting image into a frame.. For this, you can try to go to the upper floors of one of the nearby buildings.
*The area around the Ljubljanica River, on which the bridge is located, is always fun and lively, no matter day or night, make sure to wander around.
Dragon Bridge
Speaking of bridges, let’s not miss another famous bridge of the city; Dragon Bridge. Why Dragon? Is it because Khaleesi visited the city and crossed this bridge in 2013? Or is it because the creator of Skyrim is Slovenian? Our answer to all of them is no, we made them up, don’t believe it.. The reason is that the symbol of the city of Ljubljana is the dragon and there are dragon figures at the four corners of this bridge.. We think both the bridge and the city symbol are very cool, don’t come back without seeing them, sir.. As a tourist, it’s customary to have dragons’ mouths and faces taken for pictures, don’t neglect it, please embarrass us a lot there.
Kongresni Square
This square, which you can also encounter with the name of Kongresni trg, is another of the main squares of the city.. In addition to being a large, green, lively and lively square where events and even festivals are held, the building of the University of Ljubljana that makes people say “if this is the university building, where did we study” is also located in this square.. You can take a stroll around the square and photograph the magnificent buildings, then crash into one of the cafes and enjoy being a tourist.. Even at the most touristic point of Ljubljana, you will not feel like you are falling into any “tourist trap”, because this is not one of the cities you know, sir. There’s also a square. This is the square where celebrations were held when Slovenia separated from Yugoslavia, and today, if there is an issue to protest, the people gather.. In our opinion, it is one of the grayest parts of the city and unexpectedly gloomy than Ljubljana, but you can see it as you pass by.
Tivoli Park
One of the best places from Istanbul. What does he miss so much? The possibility of leaving the house and reaching a place without traffic, fresh air and of course green space.. This being the case, we cry in front of every city park we see in Europe, and we open a banner in front of every green area.. Here is Ljubljana’s Tivoli Park, one of the most beautiful city parks that will give you this feeling.. As a matter of fact, you can get this feeling all over Slovenia, but the pleasure of having a small picnic in Tivoli is something else.. or riding a bike. or taking a walk. Or just for your pleasure to drop your way here.. we are jealous. We would like it too.
-If you are interested, it is located in the International Centre of Graphic Arts Tivoli Park. You can stop by and pop a coffee in the cafe in the garden afterwards.
Ljubljana Castle
According to our observations, Ljubljana Castle is one of the most important historical structures of the Slovenian people and the most touristic. one of the points. However, we should not think of this place as just an old historical building, because we are talking about a more complex order, you will understand when you visit it.. The castle includes a large courtyard, a restaurant, and even the Puppet Museum, where weddings are held in summer and even open-air cinema events are held.. It also offers you a magnificent panoramic view of Ljulbjana, which can’t be beat.
The castle has been used for many different purposes throughout history.. Basically, since it is located at a point overlooking the city, it has always been an observation area, but it has even been used as a prison.. If you visit the castle, you can also see the areas that were used as cells when it was a prison.
*Even if you do not take a guided tour inside the castle, you can watch a 5-minute presentation where you can get information about the history of the castle.. It is not a boring thing as you guessed, they explained it in a very entertaining way, we think you should not miss it.. For example, while watching this presentation, we learned that the fear of the Ottoman Empire during the famous Vienna gates had a significant impact on the castle’s current state.
*Funicular (round-trip) + Castle Tour + Puppet Museum fee 10 euros. If you are a student 7. If you’re not a student and you’re pretending to be a student, they won’t eat, we’re sorry.
*If you’re going to do something crazy like climbing the castle without using the funicular, we applaud you standing up, because you’ll have to go uphill for about 10 minutes.. We are not responsible if you wake up the next morning after doing pilates.
Museum of Modern Art (Moderna Galerija)
Yes, in Ljubljana there are many museums. But of course, as in every city, we had a favourite; Museum of Modern Art. Since we are people who have an interest in modern art in general, this may not be a very surprising situation, of course, that is different.. Thankfully, they didn’t hang a branch on the wall and accept it as art, as some modern art museums do, maybe that’s why we liked it, anyway.. 20 of Slovenian artists, including the Yugoslav era. It covers the works that he has produced since the 19th century and gives a chance to encounter really great works.. We also liked this museum as it allows you to observe the development of art in Slovenia in parallel with the history.. Those who are interested in the subject should definitely stop by.
*Don’t miss the works of Impressionist artists Rihard Jakopic, Ivan Grohar and Matej Sternen, we fell in love with them.. Yes, it’s normal for them to remind you of Monet, you are not alone.
*We also draw your attention to Bozidar Jakac, whose works you can see in the museum, we are sure you will be impressed by him too.
<
– Open every day between 10:00 – 18:00 except Monday. The fee is 5 Euros, 2.5 for students.
-Address: Cankarjeva 15
-The museum has a very sweet cafe. Slovenian hipsters also use this place as a working area, you can stop by for a coffee.
Museum of Contemporary Art
In Metelkova and more Museum of Contemporary Art, which includes alternative exhibitions/artists, is one of the museums you can stop by if you have plenty of time.. Usually focuses on 1960 and later. There is also a section in the museum about the state’s support for Slovenian artists, which we think can set an example for many countries, including Turkey, and don’t forget to check it out.. However, if you have limited time in the city and have to make a choice, we think you should vote for Ljubljana Museum of Modern Art.
-Entry 5 Euros, student 2.5.
-Address: Maistrova 3
National Gallery of Slovenia
If you think that one of the ways to know a country like ours is to understand its art and history, visit the National Gallery. can’t go back without visiting. Main exhibition area 13. 20th century. It covers the works of Slovenian artists covering the period up to the 19th century.. Some of them contain works from other European countries, especially Austria.. The museum building underwent a major renovation and reopened in January this year and has now become one of the museums that the people of Slovenia are proud of, everyone is praising the National Gallery.. It’s not a big museum, but the inside of the building is beautiful, and we think it’s very enjoyable to visit in terms of getting to know the country better.
-Open every day from 10:00 to 18:00 except Monday.. Open until 20:00 on Thursdays.
-Entrance 7 Euros, discounted 3 Euros.
-Address: Presernova 24.
Cooperative Bank Building
If you pass by the Cooperative Bank Building, one of the most photographed buildings in Ljubljana, it is impossible not to attract your attention.. The building, which bears the characteristics of the Art Nouveau movement, was designed by the architect Ivan Vurnik and rusted the inside to his wife Helena Vurnik, and something wonderful came out.. The geometric shapes on the façade of the building are colored with inspiration from the Slovenian flag.. The interior was designed based on natural shapes such as pine trees and wheat fields, which are identified with Slovenia.. Since it is already at a very central point, just pass it by.
Address: Miklosiceva cesta 8
Metelkova
Metelkova is arguably one of the most interesting places for us in Ljubljana, or even in whole Slovenia.. You should stop by here, we won’t say you had better see something, because you have to go! We guess that’s it, we’ll have to go into the history of Metelkova for that, but it’s not boring, don’t worry.
Metelkova, which was built as a barracks by the army of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the early 1900s. After this process, it is used by the Yugoslav army until 1941 for the same purpose.. 2nd. It is occupied for a time by Italian fascists and Nazis during World War II, and finally remains in the hands of the army of Socialist Yugoslavia from 1945 to 1991.. Everything is normal so far, obviously an area suitable for military purposes.. But what comes next is important, because things start to change here after Slovenia’s separation from Yugoslavia.. With the withdrawal of the Yugoslavian army from this area, a community called “Network of Metelkova“, consisting of a team of 200 people, comes together.. This team is announcing that they have decided to turn Metelkova into an autonomous region by occupying it (we are talking about the concept of #occupy, a more active movement) in order to turn it into a cultural center.. In fact, in the first place, they communicated with the Slovenian State and stated that they wanted to turn this place into a more useful area, but we can say that they decided to deal with their own affairs after they could not get a response from the state for a long time.. This event lays the foundations of Metelkova, which you can go and see now, and Metelkova becomes the symbol of the rebellious/other parts of the city.
Today, Metelkova, which is spread over 12,500 m2, has many nightclubs, art studios. and venue, many events and concerts are held. However, we are not talking about places that play pop music or places where you go with high heels.. You can think of it as areas where electronic or punk music stands out, gay bars, metal/hard rock concerts and more alternative art performances.. The majority of Slovenian youth spend their weekends here, feeling attached to it and indeed Metelkova definitely reflects the rebellious side of the city.. However, the issue of whether this place has a legal existence is actually a bit complicated.. The venues here are not licensed by the state, and it is unclear whether they even pay taxes.. When we tried to get information on the subject and asked many people, we received diametrically opposite answers such as “it has now become a legal entity, they have to pay taxes to the state here” or “as far as I know, they do not pay taxes”.. We think that the Municipality of Ljubljana has let this event flow for now and is not taking any action on the issue.. In conclusion, Metelkova is the best spot in Ljubljana for nightlife.. Especially if you come across a party or something on the weekend, you can have a lot of fun and have strange experiences, we think you should definitely stop by! You can also take time to see the street art and mural works here during the daytime.
Ljubljana Tips
-Everyone in the city speaks English. Look, you think we’re exaggerating, you think this OitheBlog is sick of over-praising things again, but we really are not exaggerating.. That’s why you don’t have your back in this city, you can ask anyone what you want.. Anyway, the people of Slovenia are extremely sympathetic, if there is no language barrier, you can talk as you go.
-If you are looking for an alternative to Metelkova or the canal side for the evening, you can take a look at Trubarjeva Street, there are many bars. However, it is not as active as the nation writes on the right and left, keep in mind.
-What do you think about the extreme popularity of Turkish coffee throughout the country? Whoever we talked to said things like “Oh, I can’t wake up without drinking Turkish coffee in the morning, honey, I’ll definitely drink a cup”. MAN IS DRINKING TURKISH COFFEE WITH A CUP, such love. It will definitely catch your attention in cafes and restaurants, and you can try the ones there.
-The library building of the University of Ljubljana is beautiful and interesting, maybe you can stop by there while wandering around, it’s very close to Kongresni Square. close.
-If I couldn’t find what I was looking for on this site, first of all you broke our hearts if you said what you wrote… But as an alternative, you can take a look at the official sites of the Slovenia Tourism Office and Ljubljana Tourism Office, really They give very detailed information, we are sure it will be useful at some point.
-The people of Ljubljana, who are sick of outdoor activities, have a special event from March to October on Fridays: Open Kitchen. Stands are set up in this area, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the “Central Market” (Address: Vodnikov trg), which is their main market, and you have the chance to try many flavors from both Slovenian cuisine and international cuisine at affordable prices.. It’s a pretty fun event, and it’s also a source of excitement among locals, in our opinion, you should definitely stop by. If the weather is bad, it can be canceled, keep in mind.
-If you like visiting the bazaar, a flea market is set up on Sundays between 8:00 and 14:00.. (Address: Cankarjevo)
