Lviv Travel Guide: Step by Step List of Places to Visit in Lviv

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say

Lviv , the most touristic city of Ukraine in recent times. Well, of course, the more touristy, the more expensive the situation applies here as well.. That’s why you should go and see it without an even more expensive city. We answer the question of where are the places to visit in Lviv. Of course, as we always do, we answer not only the question of where we should go, but also the question of where we should go..

First of all, one of the best parts of Lviv for us was that it was very easy to explore on foot.. Since one of our favorite things is to get lost in the streets, it is much more enjoyable to go somewhere on foot.. Lviv is indeed a small city. Especially when we compare it with respect to Kiev, you will not leave a street unentered within 3-4 days.. Everything you want to see as a tourist stays in Old Town. All the famous restaurants are in this region and even Lviv nightclubs are located here, so whatever you want to do day and night, this is the right spot..

While we were wandering around Lviv, we always said, especially in the Old Town, what a beautiful architecture, what neat streets, as if they were drawn with a ruler.. On the way to the airport, we saw the Soviet architecture.. High and rectangular buildings on top of each other, zero architectural ornaments; you will only see piles of concrete. But don’t worry, Old Town has become so touristic that you don’t have to go out of here.. Now let’s look at the details of the places we explored on foot.

Rynok Square

We are sure that you will pass around Rynok Square, which is the center of Lviv Old Town, several times a day.. Because all the places to visit and eating and drinking stops in Lviv are gathered around this square.. It wouldn’t be a lie if we say that the heart of Lviv beats here both day and night.

Lviv Town Hall is located in the middle of restaurants on its right and left.. If you want to come to Rynok Square, you can also take a city tour by train, which leaves right in front of the City Hall.. In our opinion, the most beautiful buildings and structures of Lviv are located around this square.

Lviv Town Hall (Lviv Town Hall)

Lviv Town Hall is a place that serves as a town hall during the day, but What makes this place touristic is to go to its roof and have a bird’s-eye view of Lviv.. If you think that there is an elevator to go to the roof, stop thinking immediately.. You can only go up to 4 floors by elevator.. These floors are already working floors where municipal services are actively provided.. You will need to force the base to climb the 350+ stairs starting after this floor. Stairs are both narrow and frequently spaced.. When you say we will have full prosperity, you have to climb another 20 stairs from a place like a tower.. This place is so narrow that even 2 people pass by, you come on top of each other.. Fatih has some claustrophobia. It was also difficult to pass, but as soon as you catch a spare moment, you can enter and quickly go up.. The cost of tasting this experience is 30 hryvnia per person.. You can go up to the tower between 9.00 in the morning and 18.30 in the evening.

Potocki Palace

You can enter and visit this palace, which belongs to the Potocki family, or spend time outside in its garden.. Inside the Potocki Palace, there are artifacts from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.. To enter, you have to pay 20 hryvnia per person.. It is located 800 meters from Lviv Opera House and 700 meters from Rynok Square.. We went to the palace on foot again.. By the way, there will always be 1-2 palaces in each country, right?

Lviv Opera House (Lviv Opera House)

Lviv’s symbol Lviv Opera House is definitely one of the places worth seeing. If you intend to listen to opera before going to Lviv, it is possible to buy your ticket online.. I don’t want to listen to the opera, if you just want to see the inside, you can buy a touristic tour ticket.. Opera ticket prices are also very affordable.. You can find tickets here. Of course, we don’t know if there will be a program suitable for your program. When you exit and walk to the left and cross the street, you will see a market area.. In this market, everything from Putin and Trump toilet papers to military badges, from matryoshkas to antiques and woolen socks; There are both souvenirs and items that those living there may need.

Pharmacy Museum

This is a pharmacy & museum that works at the same time, much different than the size of the museum you can think of.. It has the distinction of being one of the oldest pharmacies in Lviv.. You can enter free of charge; so you are actually logging into the pharmacy. At that moment, you will also see people who actually take drugs.. You can see the tools used in drug making in the Pharmacy Museum, which was opened in 1966.. People say from where to where..

Italian Courtyard

This courtyard, built by an Italian architect, is still in the Old Town area.. There are restaurants in the lower floor of the courtyard.. You can go up if you want.. It is free to walk around the courtyard, but if you want to see the rooms, you can pay 3 hryvnia and take off your shoes.

Virmenska Street (Virmenska Street)

I think this is one of the most beautiful streets in Lviv.. Also known as Armenian Street. I say the most beautiful because you will love the houses and buildings on the street.. What would happen if they were a little more well-groomed?. There are nice cafes and restaurants in this area.

Shevchenka Avenue (Shevchenka Avenue)

While walking, your feet will inevitably bring you to Shevchenka Avenue. There is nothing special about this place, but it is quite touristic.. The reason is that restaurants and cafes are often on this boulevard.. It is possible to visit and take pictures of the beautiful buildings in half an hour and return.

Lychakiv Cemetery

The Lychakiv Cemetery, built in 1786, is located on an area of 40 hectares and is Lviv’s largest It has become one of the places visited. There are more than 500,000 tombs, statues and reliefs, 24 chapels in the cemetery.. You need to spend at least half a day here.. The entrance fee is only 40 hryvnia.. It also includes walking paths, a botanical garden and monuments.. It’s sure to have a unique style, maybe it wouldn’t be right to call it a cemetery.. Already in 1991, this place received the title of museum.

Lviv Parks

I never thought it would happen, but I am very surprised, one of the most famous places in Lviv is its parks.. You can take your morning walks in the lush green parks and sit on the benches.. Visiting the parks does not end; Ivan Franko Park, Shevchenko Park are among the most famous parks. Although we did not have time to visit these parks, we had the opportunity to sit on the benches in the tiny park right in front of the Opera House.. Local people also use the parks quite well.

Churches and Cathedrals of Lviv

The number of churches and cathedrals with Gothic – Baroque architecture that you will always come across in Lviv and pass by even if you do not go is quite a lot.. We wanted to share the touristic ones with you.

  • St.. Peter & Paul Garrison Church: The construction of this church, which has the first Baroque architecture in Lviv, started in 1610.. When you go on the weekend or during the mass, you will see that it is quite crowded.
  • Armenian Cathedral: Unfortunately, the interior of the Armenian Cathedral, located just down the street from Virmenska Street, is not fully understood. We couldn’t visit, but we had the opportunity to enter the garden.. 14 by Armenians living in the region. YY. This building, which was completed in Istanbul, also bears traces of Gothic architecture.. It is also included in the “World Cultural Heritage” of Unesco.
  • Dormition Cathedral: Dormition Cathedral, a Ukrainian Orthodox church, dates back to 1600. based on years. When we went, it was closed to visitors due to the ritual.. The building is quite large and magnificent.

  • St.. Michael’s Church: When you look at Lviv from above, that is, from the city hall, you will definitely see this church on the hill.. A church that you can go by walking and climbing stairs just outside the center. There was also a monastery around it.
