Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is famous for its thermal pools.. Even in the freezing cold of winter, Budapest people love to go to thermal pools and enjoy hot water under the falling snow.. In the country, which is very rich in thermal water, this has become a tradition from the Ottoman Empire.
There are dozens of thermal pools in the city, especially Szechenyi.. However, we preferred Palatinus on Margit Island.. When we came to Margit Island, we wanted to both enjoy the island and add fun to our day by spending time in the pool.. We spent the best day in Budapest here. If you want to get an idea about Margit Island, I recommend you to take a look at my article.
Palatinus is 15 minutes away from the entrance of Margit Island.. This place is very popular especially on weekends.. We also came on a Sunday, but there was no overwhelming crowd.. Entry fee is 2400 HUF on weekdays and 2800 HUF on weekends.. (approximately 45 – 50 TL) Children, students and elderly people can enter by paying 2000 HUF on weekdays and 2300 HUF on weekends.. (approximately 35 TL) I would like to remind you that the entrance fee is 2000 HUF from Monday to Friday after 17:00. Once inside, you can lock your valuables in the cabins if you wish.. No extra cabin fee. Sunbeds are paid. Since there is a large grass area, we preferred to lay on the grass.. Don’t forget to bring your towel with you, otherwise you may have to rent it.
There are 11 pools in Palatinus.. 2 thermal pools. Temperatures between 32-36 degrees. Once inside you don’t want to leave for a long time. The Olympic swimming pool is 22 degrees Celsius and is ideal for those who want to swim efficiently.. Since the children’s pool is in a separate place, this place is mostly preferred by professional swimmers.. The wave pool is run every 45 minutes and is so fun that it takes you back to your childhood days. Don’t forget that you can also get a massage at Palatinus.. Care packages that offer different options such as aromatherapy massage, foot massage, thermal massage start from 3000 HUF.
If you get tired of swimming and get hungry, you can eat whatever you want from the restaurants and buffets next to the pool.. We preferred Langos, one of the traditional street food of Hungary, and Dreher, which is the local beer.. Prices are pretty cheap. Langos 500 HUF, beer 300 HUF. It is equivalent to about 15 liras.
No one bothers anyone in the place, which is built on a very large area.. Toilets, showers and changing rooms are very clean.. Before leaving the pool, you can dry your hair, put on your make-up and change your clothes and set off for Budapest nights.
