strong>, for the summer term 18.00. Visitors are expected to check out at 19.30 at the latest and it is said that it is forbidden to stay until later, but as far as we can see, there is no control mechanism.. I can recommend after 16.00 as an alternative to those who want to wander around in peace.

Petra’s; “What the hell were we?!” there is a mind-blowing entry fee: 50 JOD (1 day), 55 JOD (2 days), 60 JOD (3 days) that is approximately 70 -77-84 dollars. How to Get to Petra?

There are direct flights from Turkey to two different cities in Jordan: one is the capital Amman; the other is Aqaba on the Red Sea coast. If you are considering a plan to see only Petra and Wadi Rum without going north, the most logical starting point would be Aqaba.. For a general Jordan tour, you can draw a route starting in Aqaba and ending in Amman.

• Departure by Car

If you intend to rent a car and tour like we do Desert Highway #15.

We used rentalcars.com» for car rental in Jordan. The longer you delay in booking, the faster the prices go up.. You can consider the rental price between $30-$40 per day.. On top of these prices, “Weekend tariff” or “airport pickup” etc. according to the place and day you rent.. Expenses can be added.

Don’t be fooled by the taxis and buses parked by the roadside at the Petra entrance; No parking there. If you arrive late in the daytime, you will not find a place for parking; When you come early in the morning, don’t make the mistake of parking on the sidewalk and get fined like us.. There are suitable parking spaces on the left before coming to the entrance or on the right after passing the entrance. id=”4-%E2%80%A2-bus%C3%BCs-with-go%C5%9F”>• Departure by Bus

If you book accommodation at Petra’s entrance you don’t need a car . Although renting a car is the most comfortable way to travel around Jordan, let me share the options for those who want to travel by bus: Jett Bus, which is a little more comfortable and aimed at tourists, or local minibuses.

JETT Bus» company was only taking a bus from Amman at the time we went, leaving it in front of the ancient city of Petra.. There is information that it was removed from Aqaba in the past, but I do not know the accuracy.. It would be useful to check again during your visit.

Local minibuses are the slower, less comfortable but more economical method you go with locals. No fixed departure times, leaves when full. Widhat Bus Station (South Station) from Amman with departure point outside the city centre; The departure point from Aqaba is the Bus Station in the city centre.. On the way back from Petra, departure point is Wadi Musa Bus Station. Ticket prices are approximately 5 JOD($7) one way for one way. It is said that they charge extra depending on your luggage situation.. Regardless of the route, the last departure time is around 15.00-16.00 at the latest.. The most guaranteed method is to plan to get on the minibus in the morning.. You should also take into account that they don’t operate on Friday.

When to Go to Petra?

Weather forecasts Considering that even on an April day with 25 degrees Celsius, we had a hard time walking due to the heat at noon, it would be right to visit Petra between March and May before the summer heat.. “If it’s hot, if we go in winter?”

If you want to make a plan by including other places in Jordan, the best time is April-May.. Alternatively, consider September to November when the weather is cooler. But going at the right time means higher hotel prices and seeing more people at the site.

Where to Stay in Petra

In Wadi Musa, where the ancient city of Petra is located, there are many hotel and hostel options within walking distance of the ruins and even at the doorstep.. click here» to review and book.

Of course, you can evaluate one of the nearby hotels.. In addition to the advantage of reaching Petra as soon as it opens in the morning, there is no problem with food as there are many restaurants around.. Unfortunately, despite their low performance, prices starting from $100 per night, even in hostels, were unnecessarily expensive for us.. If you have a car, you can choose a hotel on the hills and in the surrounding villages, stay in a Bedouin camp close to Wadi Rum or rent an apartment from Airbnb.

We had a hard time finding a place, as we went during the high season and it was too late to make a reservation.. As a last resort, we booked a room at the newly opened Oak Tree Hostel, which has no reviews.. Some work was still in progress when we arrived. Since they could not find the key to the room, they completely changed the lock of the door; We encountered situations such as water cuts.. However, we found the attempt of two young people who could not find a job to turn a stone house in a garden into a hotel, very naïve.. Everyone was extremely caring and devoted. Its breakfast, rooms, common areas…it was like a boutique hotel.. The best part was that we paid only $39 for the double room rate including breakfast.. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with a car.. I guess they will have fixed the minor deficiencies until you leave, but still, it would be good to check the comments beforehand and make a reservation like that.. It’s a mystery what you will encounter

Eating in the Ancient City of Petra Drinking

Petra Antique City on every route you can find small cafes run by Bedouins where you can meet your water, tea, coffee and snack needs.. But unfortunately the prices are too high and the quality is equally low. ha! Too cheap in places other than Petra? No, but at least the best of the worst. In Petra we gave 2 JOD ($2.8) to 1 liter of water, in the market outside we gave 1 JOD ($1.4). Like… Therefore, if you have the opportunity, get plenty of water and snacks from any gas station on the way before you reach Wadi Musa.

What to eat in Petra? The subject of food in Petra Ancient City is also frankly, it’s a bit of a hassle. We thought we would find a place for a decent lunch, but we could only find two restaurants at the end of the Main Trail.. Not bad but the prices are terrible! Both only serve buffets; one per person 12 JOD ($17), the other $17 JOD ($24) per person standard price. That’s why I strongly recommend that you bring something for lunch with you.

How is the breakfast thing solved when you enter the area early in the morning? Almost all hotels offer breakfast (and even lunch) packages if you ask for them.. If you are staying at a hotel in the region for a Petra trip, please send your request to the hotel.. If you cannot find this opportunity, you can buy packaged food from the restaurants at the entrance of the ancient city and take it with you.. But don’t rely on indoor venues if you don’t want to inflate your spending.

Food and Drink Outside the Ancient City of Petra

I mentioned that there are many restaurant alternatives at the

Petra Ancient City entrance. Of course there is good and bad in them.. “The account was different from the one on the menu, this is the stakeholder.” Don’t be fooled by reviews like this. As in the rest of Jordan, tax and 10% service charge are added to the price on the menu in places in Petra as well.. Despite this, there are also people waiting for you to tip.. That part is up to you…

The biggest disappointment for us was the Cave Bar, which is recommended on almost every blog. If you’re going to use the bar in Petra Guest House ONLY for beer, great! Other than that, I would not recommend you to sit for neither food nor cocktails.. The cocktails we ordered alongside the hamburger, which was served cold in just one hour, was the worst mix we’ve ever had in our lives; tell me. In addition, we were very eager to relieve the tiredness of the day with a beer in the cave, but when we saw that after 20:00, a ridiculous live music started, our enthusiasm stopped.. Our order of 2 burgers and 2 cocktails cost 37 JOD ($52). Credit cards are not accepted.

Our favorite here is Mum’s Recipe Restaurant, which serves the best food we’ve had in Jordan.. It was authentic, fast and delicious.. Our order, which consisted of a delicious mint-lemon, soup, fattosh salad and a portion of meat dish for the two of us, cost 24 JOD ($34) in total.

It’s cheap in a small doner shop whose name I don’t know because it’s written in Arabic. , we paid 9 JOD ($12.6) for 2 wraps of doner kebabs, which were quick but heartbreaking all night long.. I regret to say that it was one of the cheapest alternatives to eat in Petra, I think.

Petra Ancient City Travel Notes and Route Details

Although a guide is recommended for some of the routes in Petra, you can walk all of the routes listed below on your own, as long as you can follow the map and signage.. All you have to do is get free maps at the ticket office.

• SIQ TRAIL – MAIN TRAIL

The road where the canyon pass from the Petra Ancient City entrance gate to the Treasury Building (also known as Treasury or Al-Hazne) is called Siq Trail. This is the simple and therefore crowded route. Many of the day visitors only walk this road and see the Treasury Building and return.. There is a slope that you will not feel while walking, you go up and down when you go.. Total distance 2 km; Depending on your performance, you can walk in an average of 30 minutes in one direction. Since every route in Petra starts after the Siq Trail, you don’t seem to have a chance to skip this place and walk elsewhere.. If you dedicate more than one day to Petra and join Petra by Night, it means you will walk the Siq Trail 5-6 times.

Include the Siq Trail. The total road from the entrance to the resting point is called Main Trail.. After you have the Treasury Building in front of you, it is enough to continue on the main road on your right.. A straight and self-explanatory route; there are a lot of vendors left and right and a crowd flowing along the road. Therefore, it is absolutely impossible to miss this place.. It will take approximately 1 hour to walk the Main Trail one way.

• MONASTERY TRAIL

<

Petra’s second popular route is the Monastery Trail, which allows you to reach the Monastery or Ad-Deir, which draws attention with its similarity to the Treasury Building but is larger than it.. But it’s not as easy as the Main Trail.. After passing the main resting place, you start going up and down the stairs carved into the rocks for 2.5 km. Although the distance from a bird’s eye view seems short on the map, it is a very long and difficult road that you go by climbing.. As an advantage of starting early in the morning, you can walk in the shade and slightly cool.. Climbing these stairs in the afternoon is an ordeal! It will take approximately 2.5 – 3 hours to walk here after the resting point.

One of the biggest advantages of this place is that it does not become a frequent destination for tourists.. Is it secluded? Definitely not! But there are relatively less crowds; You have the opportunity to go to the top of the rocks and get away from the crowd and watch these magnificent structures carved into the rock for a long time in the calm.

• AL-KHUBTA TRAIL

This route, also known as the Treasury Viewpoint Trail, as it features the Treasure House from the top, requires plenty of stairs to climb.. The most important clue for the route where you see the King Tombs carved into the rock is to start the route in reverse.. Why?

The event of taking photos with a view of the Treasury Building from above has become a mafia order in Petra.. From the moment you step into the ruins, the Bedouins try to block your way and try to persuade you to take you up the hill.. They claim that it is forbidden to go without a guide on the route that you can normally go on your own, and they block you, they ask for money to take you.. The easiest way to get over them is to start this route in reverse.. In other words, to enter from the road on the opposite side of the Ancient Theatre.. You will see the signs. At the end of the 1.5 hour climb, you reach the peak.. At the cafe here, you can take a tea and coffee break for a fee of 2 JOD ($2.8) and enjoy the magnificent view.

At the point of completing the remaining road, they immediately realize that you have come there alone, and this time they return. They insist that you get a guide for. We survived the same way we came back by turning back.

• HIGH PLACE OF SACRIFICE TRAIL

The most difficult and secluded route we took in Petra was the High Place of Sacrifice Trail. The best part for us was that we could enter every structure we saw on this route, unlike the Treasury and Monastery Buildings, which we can only look at from the outside.. We both took spacious breaks in the desert heat and closely examined the rock-cut areas.. It was also the road where we needed water the most.

Compared to other routes, the directions here are quite weak and there are too many crossroads.. Although there was confusion at some points, we found our way by following them as there were other people walking, but if we had entered late, we would have had difficulty.. The most annoying thing was that the local we asked for directions immediately offered guidance and asked for money.

Walking this 3 km route, which takes all Petra under our feet at the top of the route, is about . It may take >4 hours. But you don’t need to multiply this time by two as it doesn’t require us to go and come.

Our Plan

Two days We entered Petra, where we bought tickets, at around 16.00 on the first day.. After crossing the Siq Trail, we completed the direct Al Khubta Trail and came back. It was 20.30 when we left the site.

We re-entered at 06.30 am on the second day.. We passed the Siq Trail, completed the Main Trail, and walked directly the Monastery Trail; It was 10:00 when we arrived at the Monastery Building with a small photo and breakfast break.. Here we took a 1 hour break in the semi-recumbent position because we really needed it.. At 11:00 we walked back the Monesty Trail, arrived at the main resting point at 12:00 and had lunch.. Then we entered the High Place of Sacrifice route.. It was 16.00 when we finished the route, as we had to take frequent breaks due to the scorching sun, thirst and extreme tiredness.. On top of that, to get out of the area, we walked the Siq Trail back and rendered our feet completely useless.

Petra Clothing Recommendations for people

What to wear in Petra? You should apply the “cabbage style” method, that is, to dress in layers, which you should apply throughout Jordan, in Petra as well.. If you have a plan to enter around 06:00 in the morning and leave in the evening, you will most likely cook during the day and get cold in the morning and evening.

Whichever route you take, comfortable and a shoe that you will not regret getting dirty with red sand you must wear. If you wear slippers or sandals, you may have difficulty climbing the stairs on the side routes, as the floor is very slippery due to the sand accumulating on the stairs carved into the rocks with the wind.. Also, some stinging nettles ruined our ankles between shoes and trousers, I can’t imagine walking around in sandals!

What to wear if you go to Petra in high season?

You don’t need to worry about the conservative side of Jordan in Petra. Shorts, t-shirts, tights, suspenders… you can easily wear any outfit you can think of.. But the real problem is that the sun is very effective.. Against the hot weather, my advice is to choose close but thin clothes rather than revealing clothes because after walking around in the sun all day, no matter how much sunscreen you apply, after a while the exposed places start to hurt.. A thin, breathable thermal t-shirt or linen shirt-trousers are ideal for this route.. Don’t think that you can pass the morning chill with a thin jacket and you should definitely set out with a coat.

Is it possible to wear a dress in Petra? If you’re only going to walk the Main Trail—which would be unfair to Petra to pay that much and do just that—you can wear a dress.. The road is dirt but doesn’t have a part where you climb rocks. If you are going to the Monestry Trail and side routes, you should definitely choose an outfit suitable for trekking.. You do not need to dress very technically, but with the simplest recipe, imagine that you will sit where you are to rest when you are tired.. Can’t you walk if you insisted on wearing a dress to look pretty in the photos? You walk, but you walk a 10-minute road in 30 minutes; you can’t move freely and you will be a little absurd in the environment.

What Should Be in the Bag?

In the Petra Ancient City tour, you can If you are going to walk every day, do not neglect at least 2 liters water and snacks per person. Breakfast and lunch packages will also save lives. You should have an extra bag to carry your trash.

No matter what season you go, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen should not be forgotten.

20 days during the day. Since you will lose a lot of water with 25 km of walking, your feet will probably swell and even your most comfortable shoes will hit your feet.. You must carry a band-aid.

As horses and donkeys are running around in the ancient city, a lot of dust rises and becomes uncomfortable after a while.. It may be good to buy a Dust mask or a material such as Buff that will cover the nose area.

There are toilets in suitable places in the Ancient City of Petra, but the hygiene standards are a bit low.. wet wipes and napkins or even if you are using Pürel, it would be good to carry it.

Take with you items such as brushes and special cloths that you can clean the camera with.. Even if you don’t want it, the top of the lens gets dusty, dust gets in between.. You may need to clean often.

What is Petra by Night?

Every week Monday, Wednesday and Thursday

strong> in the evening, the Siq Trail is illuminated with approximately 1500 candles, offering a mind-blowing visual feast.. Visitors get the chance to sit cross-legged among the candles in front of the Treasury Building and watch the show consisting of traditional music and stories, and if all conditions are fulfilled perfectly, they are transported to 2000 years ago under the stars and in peaceful silence. The cost of attending this impressive show is 17 JOD ($24).

You can buy tickets at the box office at the visitor center or at some hotels. You do not have the opportunity to buy tickets in advance; every day, tickets for that day are released. Where you ask “Ticket is out.” If you get a warning, try your luck elsewhere. It is said that you have to have a day ticket to enter Petra by Night, but no one checked our day tickets.

Let’s get to the annoying details…

Tickets sold for Petra by Night are unlimited. You can be 500 people or 5000 people in the area where the show is taking place.. As we entered at around 20:00, we found a place to sit on the rugs laid on the floor, although it was difficult, but those who came after us were always standing.. On top of that, there are the struggle of the latecomers to find a place, there are people moving around, there are many distractions!

If you are looking for calm, you should start entering the visitor center at 19.30 at the latest.. If you stay late, you find yourself in a crowd that can’t even see where you’re going, let alone the magical silence of the Siq Trail.. People flock to them.

Since there is no microphone set up for performances, the closer you sit to the stage, the better your chance to hear and enjoy. Again, the subject was tied to arriving early.. We listened to the music comfortably, but we did not hear a single word in the story part.. Also, don’t be fooled by the hours; it starts past 21:00 and finishes around 22:00. In other words, an event of 30-45 minutes at most.. This means that the disadvantage of arriving early is waiting idly for 2 hours.

Is it worth the money we pay? I will write this part out of your sincerity… It didn’t hurt us as we were able to allocate more budget for this trip.. But if we had come with a more limited budget, we would be a little sad for the money we gave and we would come to the conclusion that it is not worth it.. More detailed information on Jordan excursion costs “Is Jordan expensive? You can find it in the article “Prices and Cost of Travel in Jordan”.

Finally; Bedouin tea is offered to everyone, but as a Jordanian classic, it is of course overly sweet.. If you can’t find a place on the rug, you will probably sit on the floor; you should choose your outfit accordingly. Also, if you don’t have a ‘tripod’, I say don’t load the camera if you’re not going to take long exposures.

Illegal Tip

I don’t like oriental tricks such as trying to enter illegally, and I don’t either.. But Jordan is a very expensive country where you have the potential to be ripped off at every step.. Therefore, I will share this tip with you, it is up to you whether to use it or not.

Petra Ancient City is spread over a very large area, so the security and control mechanism does not work very well.. After all, there are also Bedouins living inside.. It is strictly forbidden to spend the night in the ancient city, but if you sleep at the bottom of a rock, no one will notice because it is pitch dark after sunset.. At the same time, don’t ignore the security risk, of course.

We found ourselves in the middle of Petra by Night on our first day, when it was late to leave the ancient city.. The scene was lit but the show hadn’t started yet, people were slowly gathering. Seeing us coming from the march, some “officers” first tried to explain what Petra by Night was and sell the used tickets.. We checked out because we prefer to log in properly rather than give money to an irrelevant man.. But on the way back, the Siq Trail was so crowded that we could mingle with them and head back to Petra by Night.. Entrance tickets have no stub, they are collected as you enter and you are left with nothing. In other words, it is not possible for someone to come and ask for tickets during the show.. For your information.

Latest Tips for Petra Ancient City Trip

• You will see horses used for transportation along the Main Trail. Since the use of these horses is included in the ticket you normally buy, the drivers immediately try to get you on the horse.. But actually they all move in exchange for the tip, that’s a. Second, these horses are for the elderly or infants who have trouble walking.. How they are treated in this crowd is also a mystery.. If you have the opportunity, I ask you not to use it.

• Donkeys and mules are used in transportation on the Monastery Trail and other side routes, but their condition is so bad, so neglected, so bruised that it is impossible not to break your heart.. If you intend to go using these animals, better not go at all.. Please don’t get on unless you are in a very, very difficult situation (eg: your broken foot etc.). You should know that when you come without a car and book a hotel far from the ancient city, you will have to take a taxi.. If you have time limit, it is generally sufficient to set aside a full day to do the Main Trail, Monestry Trail during the day and Petra by Night if you wish.. But if you are interested in trekking, if you enjoy walking in and out of rocks that smell of history, “We paid that much money, let’s use it to the fullest.” you should spend at least two days in Petra.

• You can use Go Petra or Visit Petra applications.. I could not get efficiency, but maybe it will work for you.

• Credit cards were not accepted in most places, including the hotel we stayed in.. It’s a good idea to have plenty of cash.
