The Grand Canal, famous for its gondola rides, its architecture with Renaissance details and the urban texture that turns Shakespeare’s sonnets into reality, offers its visitors Venice and Verona, which offer magical corners written in fairy tales; two beautiful cities where some come for inspiration and some couples grow their love. Venice; While it hosts the romantic steps of those who want to immortalize their love with its pastel colors and narrow streets, Verona continues to be the first address for those who want to find their own Romeo and Juliet.
#Venice whose streets smell of water
Capital of the Veneto Region I visited Venice for the first time in January 2012, with the cold that permeated me.. It was so cold that it was necessary to warm up in a coffee shop before taking pictures and to have a cup of Espresso to sober up.. In spite of its abruptly icy air, and the fog collapsing with its cold, very few places felt the heartbeat of Venice. definitely here. The place that should be in the first place for those who want to feel themselves in a fairy tale city with its colorful atmosphere and the smell of water.. There are cities where you can get lost on foot, you know, sometimes, Venice is the most beautiful of them.. As I write this article, as I always do, I would like to suggest a route for your trip; but here, you have started a tour where you will run for coffee in the corner on your left, while you are dreaming about the narrow street on your right, and you will be in a hurry to turn on your camera so that I have one more shot of the view of the canal in front of you.
Therefore, my advice to you about Venice is; Entering the bazaar right across from the station, proceed in the direction you feel, and follow the ‘Per Rialto’ (for Rialto) and ‘Per San Marco’ (for San Marco) signs on almost every street corner.. They will create a spontaneous tour for you, proving how beautiful it really is to get lost.
Rialto or San Marco road while following; The streets you pass are all connected by small bridges of similar colors.. Perhaps you will discover the sweetest colors of history and nature in the narrow streets consisting of two or three tiles, where you will capture your best shot ever.
Indeed, the naturalness of Venice is completely different.. It’s like a place that no one has ever touched, as if it was never made, just formed.. I have a little note about this place; If you find a mask you like in the streets or shops on the streets during your trip, don’t say “I’ll buy it later”.. You will probably never cross the same street again, after all, the secret of this beautiful city is in its disappearance..
The romantic gondolas of Venice
As you walk, you will see the long gondolas passing through the canals. At these moments, it’s natural to feel like you’re in the lead role of your favorite romantic movies.. Gondola; a must for a love story in this city. The iconic gondolas, which create the most beautiful view of the canals passing through Venice’s houses that smell of love, offer unforgettable moments to travelers and couples who have come to feel this place, in the footsteps of peace.
The tour takes 40 minutes on average. The price is around 80 Euros regardless of the number of people.. It’s hard to bargain down the price, but if you approach the striped brothers using the gondolas sincerely, it is possible to increase your tour time.. If the cost of the gondola tour is too much for your budget, you can take the Grand Canal (Canale Grande) tour, which is decorated with the ‘palazzo’ mansion and bridges lined up left and right, using the small engines called ‘Vaporetto’.
Rialto’s colorful market
Speaking of the Grand Canal tour, 16. Not without adding the century-old Rialto Bridge to the route.. Rialto, which connects the two sides of the Venetian Lagoon, is famous for its green doors and has small shops on one side, is one of the most important symbols of the city.
From masks to delicious donuts, from puppets to glass If you return without taking a photo on this bridge, where you can find a small summary of Venice on shopping, from objects, Italian leather shoes and bags to magnets, we do not consider you to have come here.. Rialto is located on the Grand Canal. Famous for being Venice’s first stone bridge, this market is the favorite of tourists with its affordable products sold around it.
In the shimmer of San Marco
To the end of the city tour, the most beautiful Byzantine architecture keep St. Mark’s Basilica where you can see one of the best examples. In front of the Basilica, San Marco Square, which is also used as a festival area. Maybe you will want to start your trip here first; but if you are one of those who like to get lost like me, you will probably save this place for the end of your tour.. The square is actually the core area of Venice.. St. Mark’s Basilica, which gave its name to this place; It also surrounds the Clock and Bell Tower called Campanile, the Palace of the Dukes Palazzo Ducale, and the Bridge of Sighs called Ponte dei Sospiri.
In the basilica, the interior of which is decorated with Byzantine mosaics, the sunlight leaking from the stained glass reflects uniquely on the gilded mosaics.. Because of the mosaics that you cannot take your eyes off with their sparkling sparkle, basilica 11. It has been known as the ‘Golden Church’ for centuries.. Apart from swinging in San Marco Square, which you are not accustomed to seeing, you can feed the pigeons, which are quite large in number, by throwing bait here, accompanied by the music playing.. By the way, boutiques of world-famous brands are also located in the side streets of this square.
The most colorful of carnivals
If you are planning a trip to Venice, you can do this the most accurate date is between 15 February – 5 March. The traditional Venetian Carnival is an event not to be missed in order to step into the colorful and entertaining world of the people who fill St. Mark’s Square and have a unique cultural experience! Experiencing this city with fairy-tale costumes, fancy make-ups and eye-catching masks makes you feel completely different.. To fall in love or not to find love here if you don’t. Hail to the islands from Venice; Murano and Burano
After touring the fragrant streets of Venice with plenty of canals, you can go to the islands of Murano and Burano by using the motors called ‘Vaporetto’.. While you are in this region, you should definitely stop by the islands; because you’ll probably be going to the most colorful places you’ll ever see. For the islands you can choose motor lines including the island of Lido. One-way tickets are 7 Euros, daily cards are 20 Euros.
Murano, the Venetian island famous for its glass art. In addition to their colorful houses, you can visit the glass schools and watch the skills of the masters.. The island that is more beautiful than Murano is definitely Burano.. This is exactly the Italian island with the colorful houses we love, which we come across on Instagram all the time! Burano, where all colors come together from pink, blue, yellow to salmon, is like a place made to give hope to life.. One of the reasons why the houses are so colorful is that, as in Cinque Terre villages, fishermen can easily find their houses by seeing them from far away.
While Murano is famous for glass art, fine lace awaits you in Burano.. Of course, those who want to get acquainted with the craftsmanship of the islands even in those whose stores are made in China can visit the Glass Museum in Murano and the Lace Museum in Burano.. For the rest of the time, I’m sure you’ll want to take pictures of every house without exception.
#Verona of Romeo and Juliet
To write Shakespeare’s famous tragedy Romeo and Juliet Verona, from which he came; Second largest in the Veneto Region. This small city, full of romantic traces in every corner, is one of the warmest places in Italy, in my opinion.. It is very affordable and very colorful to travel.. The architecture of this historical city, which is under the protection of UNESCO; It is the perfect blend of the Roman Empire, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
Jülyet’s romantic house
Jülyet’, famous for its balcony now used as a museum The House of Verona, the first place to see. It is said to have been used by Juliet’s family, the Capulets.. Before entering the house, it is believed that touching the statue of Juliet on the left brings blessings and those who make a wish by holding Juliet’s chest will have a good future.. That’s the ritual though it’s pretty funny to watch. While you are here, you should not forget to put the locks on which you write your love on the irons in the courtyard.
The locks, of which you can see hundreds of them on top of each other, are one of the most important symbols of this city of love.. Have you thrown the key of the locks you left here from the Stone-Walled Bridge to the Adige River, you’re done! A little note; You can write your name on the walls at the entrance of the house and stick the chewed gum next to it as a souvenir.. There are some really interesting customs in this Verona!
Now that you have accomplished all the ways of wishing you know, you can now proceed towards the Piazze delle Erbe square, where you can find cafes and souvenir stalls.. Verona; an extremely economical city from food to gifts. You can take a breather in the cafes in Erbe Square and go into a gift coma in the shops around it.
An arena in the footsteps of history
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet aside, Verona’ Another important place of the city is the Teatro Romano, which is the scene of traces of Roman history.. You can think of the arena as slightly smaller than the Colosseum in Rome.. In summer, with the season opening in June, it is possible to watch the world’s most famous operas and similar musical events here.
Majesty of the Middle Ages
To the most unique military structures of the Middle Ages The Old Castle named Castelvecchio, which is an example, has a simple architecture with gothic details.. The view of the Old Castle Bridge, which is considered a part of the castle, over the Adige River is worth seeing both in the morning and in the evening if you have time.. There is also a museum inside the castle.
Verona; a city that is very easy to navigate and to be happy. Its small and intimate nature makes it one of the places that should not be missed in Italy.. With Shakespeare’s passionate love story added to its historical texture, this place is like a fairy tale city.. Every year, thousands of Juliets come to Verona to make their wishes for their Romeo.. We always say that beliefs are universal, and Verona is the place you need to come to see how it is.
If you want to go to these two beautiful cities of Veneto, you can travel between the two by train for 1-1.5 hours.. It is also possible to reach quickly from nearby cities such as Milan, Turin, Florence, Bologna.. In the northern cities, you first arrive in Verona and then in Venice.. In the opposite direction, you start your tour from Venice. If you are not already in Italy, my first recommendation for accommodation is Verona.. Since the city is small and less popular than the others, it is easy to find budget hotels and hostels.. You may need to go over the price you think in Venice, especially during the carnival period.
Here are a few more pictures below for you to get to know Venice and Verona better and to accompany the fun moments of my trips. i share.
