Ohrid is a wonderful lake city located in the easternmost part of Macedonia. Although Lake Ohrid, which I consider to be the most favorite place to visit in Macedonia, stands out in the region, this geography actually hosts many more beautiful places.. Therefore, in this article, I will not only mention the list of Ohrid places to visit.. At the same time, restaurants in Ohrid, Ohrid nightlife, and even nearby Struga and Bitola ie I will also tell you all the route I followed in the strong>Monastery cities.

1. Where is Ohrid
Ohrid, located in the south of Macedonia, on the border with Albania, is famous for Lake Macedonia, which is used jointly by Albania–Greece and Macedonia.

Ohrid, one of the most touristic cities of Macedonia, is home to 20-30,000 people. actually a small city. When you come to Ohrid, the neighboring cities of Struga and Bitola are must-see places.. So, let’s start with Struga, our first stop.

2. Struga Places to Visit
Assuming you’ve read my Macedonian Capital Skopje Places article, let’s continue on our route. Now I finally arrive at Lake Ohrid. But my first stop is the city of Struga, although not as beautiful as Ohrid.

Actually, this is a tiny place.. If you add up, 20-30,000 people live. After spending a beautiful sunset in the cafes on the beach, I go to the main city, Ohrid.

Ohrid is one of the most beautiful stops in Macedonia. An indispensable Macedonian city with its clean lake, narrow stone streets, delicious food and fun nightlife.

While visiting the squares and the promenade, “It was as if I was visiting a city in the Mediterranean.” i get the feeling. I sleep early at night after touring the cordon part of the city on the first day.. Tomorrow will be a long day.
4. St Sofia Church
St Sofia Church is located in one of the most beautiful places in Ohrid, in the old city centre.. Many of the houses in the region where I walk the stone streets remind me of Anatolian houses.. The corners of their windows are made of wood and their roofs are like ours.

About 10 After walking for a minute, I come to this church built in 852.. One of the more than 300 churches in Ohrid, St Sofia’s interior and frescoes are extraordinary. After taking some photos here, I now want to watch Lake Ohrid from the top.
5. Ohrid Ancient Theater
I enjoy walking the side streets so much that I feel as if I know them very well.. After walking for 5-10 minutes, I see the famous ancient Theatre of Ohrid.
The theater, which is from the ancient Roman period and has a capacity of 4,000 people, is almost 2,400 years old.. It also continues to host events during the summer season today.
6. Plaoshnik (Plaoshnik) The Ruins
One of the most important ruins of Ohrid is Plaoshnik. This is actually an archaeological site.

7. Ohrid Castle (Fortress)

8. St John’s Church
You have seen it in many promotional videos of Macedonia. There is a church by the lake, taken at sunset.

9. Back to Ohrid by boat. However, I am worried about making the return not by foot, but by boats in the small bay just below St John’s Church.

10. Bay of Bones Museum
This time, I’m going to a place I’ve never seen before in Ohrid. This is BC. The village was actually built on water in the 1200s.

11. Sveti Naum
In my opinion, I am going to one of the 3 most beautiful places in Macedonia. This is an extraordinary place in the Galioica Natural Park.. While I am still walking from the entrance, a magnificent view welcomes me.. To my left, a blue-painted boat, a smooth lake, behind it a lush forest. It’s like a dream.

You can visit the lake with the boats here, and 4 people 10 They charge around Euros. I’m on my way instead of taking a boat ride. The famous St. Naum Monastery located here is my next stop.. This is a 1,200-year-old monastery.. There is also a church in which St Naum’s tomb is located.

The interior of the building, which welcomed me with its orthodox church architecture, is legendary. The frescoes on the walls still managed to survive.. After spending some time here, I’m on my way to the Macedonian border.. “What does that have to do with anything ?” I can hear you say. Let me explain :
12. Macedonia-Albania Border
I’m going from the border, which is about 5-10 minutes away by car, just for change and experience.. After hearing that there are dozens of young people who came to the border with their bicycles, then wandered around the Albania part of the lake and returned with their bicycles in the evening, I think I should at least go on foot.

After traveling to and from the Albanian-Macedonian border, which took about 1 hour, although I did not drown in the sea of experience, At least I’m not missing this experience.
13. Lake Prespa ( Prespa Lake)
I continue on my way by driving through Parku Nacional Galicica.. After climbing the hill hundreds of meters, a legendary Lake Ohrid view welcomes me.
This is actually a point between Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa.. Prespa Lake is right on my way to Bitola.. This lake covers the borders of 3 countries: Macedonia-Albania-Greece.

After a pleasant journey of about 45 minutes, I am coming to Prespa Lake.. I have a nice lunch at Square Beach by the lake. The fish coming out of the lake is quite delicious.
And a pancake on top of it.. They are also very successful in this regard.. I especially like the one with nutella and banana.. After having a nice meal here, my next stop is Monastery, the city of Bitola. But if you wish, let me first finish my hotel suggestions about Ohrid.. Next, let’s continue down with Bitola. My recommendations for accommodation in Ohrid, where to stay in Ohrid ?
Ohrid is more like a town with summer towns. Ohrid is the place for Macedonians what our popular cities are for sea-sand-sun.
There are about 300 businesses in Ohrid. Most of them are located in the heart of the city.. I will now make accommodation suggestions for you according to every budget.

- City Inn Apartments & Dorm Rooms : Out of these 7 hostels, the only one I liked was this establishment. He also got 9.4 and 2 people 108 TL per night.. expensive if you ask me. That’s why I say it’s better to rent the houses I suggest below.

- Villa Saraj

Apartments Sonja : This facility is also a nice property with a rating of 8.7. How much do you think the price per night for 2 people? 83 TL.
Studios Anja : A facility that received 9.1. The lake view is also legendary. This place is a little expensive.. 87 TL per night
House Meri : A fantastic property with 9.4 rating. There is also a lake view. 107 TL per night.

15. What to eat in Ohrid ?
Macedonian food generally includes meatballs-moussaka-beans and lots of grilled varieties.. But what I would suggest for Ohrid would be more seafood. Fish, squid and shrimps are outstanding. So what are my Ohrid restaurant recommendations? What to eat in Ohrid ?
What to eat in Ohrid
- Belvedere : Belvedere, one of my favorite restaurants in Ohrid, is located just in the center of Ohrid, 100 meters from the beach.. Especially grilled squid (Grilled squid) is very, very nice. Price 550 Dinars. However, the grilled meatballs and meats are also outstanding.. One of the special desserts of the restaurant, Ice cream belvedere dessert 160 Dinar, Jack Daniels whiskey 230, starters 150 dinars. If you want to eat fish by kilo, the price is around 1,000 Dinars, depending on the type of fish. Pizzas are usually around 200 dinars.. Drinks are 70 Dinars. The resort is located right on the edge of Lake Ohrid.
- Noa : Noa is also located right in the old district of Ohrid.. In the restaurant located by Lake Ohrid, especially the pizzas are very delicious.. Their prices are around 230 Dinars.. For drinks, 60-70 Dinars. By the way, this is also a pub/bar. There is good live music in the evenings. You can choose to have fun, especially until 1-2 at night.. What about Ohrid Nightlife ?

- The Duck Club : It is within walking distance of Ohrid square.. They often have live music. You can choose to have a drink in the evenings.
- Liquid Cafe : Liquid is located right in the old city centre.. They offer a restaurant during the day and live music in the evening.. A good choice with its zero location to Lake Ohrid.

17. Places to Visit in Bitola
Now I am slowly approaching the end of my Macedoniantrip. Bitola, also known as the Monastery, is located in the east of Ohrid.. I decide to go here after visiting Prespa Lake.. After visiting Bitola, I prefer to return to Ohrid and get lost in its streets.. By the way, what kind of place do you think Bitola is?

Love it here. Especially the streets and Shirok Street (you can think of them as Istiklal Street) are extraordinarily beautiful.. Colorful buildings, cafes, bars, restaurants, churches, mosques are always close to this street.
After walking the street, I come to the famous Monastery Military High School.. I’ll be proud, to the point where my eyes water. Why ?
- Monastery Military High School : Macedonia’s 2 largest. Located in the city of Bitola, this museum is actually the place where Mustafa Kemal Pasha attended high school.. Born in Thessaloniki, Atatürk later studied here.. After finishing his education, he continued his education at the “Istanbul Military Academy” in Istanbul.
This school now serves as a museum.. Both the history of Macedonia, the geographical values of the country and cultural artifacts are exhibited; and in a special section reserved for Atatürk, the clothes worn by Mustafa Kemal Pasha are exhibited.. There is also a letter here.. In the letter, the lines written by Atatürk’s love, Eleni Karinte, to Atatürk can be read one by one:

I continue my way along Shirok Street and take hundreds of photos.. It is indeed a very beautiful city.. The clock tower at the end of the street and the New Mosque just across it greet me.
Bitola : Church St Dimitri’s Church
Turn my direction to the left and follow the crowd. St Dimitri Church, one of the most important churches in the city, was built in 1830.. I stare in admiration, especially at the extraordinary engravings on the ceiling.
Just in front of me is a newly married couple and the priest praying to them; cheers and their smiling friends in tears of joy catch my eye. “God bless”. saying, I go to the City Market, which is my last stop in Bitola.
- City Market (City Market and Old Bazaar) : I love to visit markets. You can see the face, life and street of the people; It is one of the most beautiful stops where you can observe the society.. Actually, this is the same market as ours.. It’s like “The men did it.” not a place to say. But you can fill a small bag with strawberries and cherries and hang them on your arm to taste 3-5 pieces, perfect for inspecting the stalls.. After wandering around here for a while, I am now returning to Ohrid.
