How Many Days to Sightsee Porto?

We will be in Porto in 1 day We visited the must-see tourist spots, but if we had 2 days, we could have made a more experience-oriented trip.. While everyone’s favorite was Porto, Lisbon was my favorite, but of course, the fact that I am more involved with city life is also a big factor in this.. Still, of course, Porto is a very enjoyable city, if you have more than 24 hours, you can consider visiting nearby towns, especially going to Costa Nova, stopping by colorful houses or staying in a vineyard.

Remember that you need Schengen Visa for your trip to Portugal.

Our Itinerary

3rd day Taking the 06:30 train from Lisbon to Porto and Get off at 10:30 in Porto and tour Porto for 24 hours and stay for 1 night

* If you had time, Aveiro stop near Porto Costa Nova, you can consider it.

4th day Return from Porto to Lisbon by 06:30 train and at 10:30. Getting off in Lisbon and traveling for 1 hour from Rossio train station to Sintra, visiting Sintra, farewell night to Lisbon in the evening and accommodation

5 .day return home by morning flight

How to Get to Porto? Porto Transportation

You can plan the above-mentioned program to start from Lisbon or Porto because Turkish Airlines flies to both Lisbon and Porto from Istanbul.. There is no company option other than THY, because the other company flying from Turkey is Air Portugal, they also operate codeshare flights.. For this reason, it is necessary to chase a campaign for Portugal.. We bought tickets to Lisbon for 1400 TL for 2 people with the THY campaign.. Considering that it is a 4.5-hour flight, it is very successful! This means that tickets can be found at these prices for Porto during the campaign periods!

Transportation from Porto Airport to the City

You can reach the city from the airport with the purple colored E line.. One way ticket fee is 2 Euros.

How to Get Between Lisbon and Porto?

I pass by thinking that the bus is unnecessary and there are two options left.. Should you travel from Lisbon to Porto by train or rent a car?

If your Portugal trip is around 1 week and you are going to the south coast, a car will be a must, in this case you will go by car and incur 25 Euros for the highway fee.. Otherwise, both Lisbon and Porto are never cities to be visited by car, on the contrary, the parking problem is both a problem and a cost.. In short, I am glad that we used the train option and we traveled with peace of mind.. 06:30 trains enabled us to use the day very effectively.. Since Portugal was 2 hours ahead of us, our biological clock felt 08:30. >

Although Porto will tire you out with its slopes, it deserves a place in the list of cities to visit on foot.. For this reason, I think you do not need a transportation vehicle, but if you wish, you can have a pleasant journey on the streets of Porto with the nostalgic tram to gain experience. or you can use transportation vehicles with single-use tickets. If you are planning a long trip to Porto and your intention is to visit more museums, you can also consider getting a Porto Card.

Porto Accommodation Recommendation – Where to Stay in Porto?

Porto is a city divided by a simple but beautiful bridge.. While the Gai region is the region with wine cellars and wine tasting, Porto has more touristic stops to visit.. We rented a very nice apartment on the Porto side, in the Ribeira area of the coastline and even right on Ribeira Square.. PortoSense Ribeira is a sweet apartment with 4 apartments and I highly recommend it. Yes, since it is the beach, you have to go uphill to go to the places to visit, but even if you stay in the upper districts, you will go down for Riberia.. So there is no escape from the slopes

Portugal Travel Cost – Our Travel Budget ( 2 persons total )

  • Flight Ticket: 1400 TL
  • Accommodation: 280 Euro (We could have saved 80 Euros if we had found our second accommodation in Lisbon earlier!)
  • Lisbon – Porto Transportation / Train: 76 Euros
  • Other Transportation: 32 Euros + 10 Euros Sintra Train Tickets + 10 Euros Transportation from Sintra train station to Pena Palace by tuktuk
  • Food and Drink: 200 Euros

Places to Visit in Portugal in 10 Items

1- Saying Hello to Sao Bento Train Station

When our train departing from Lisbon passed through the Dom Luis bridge view and stopped in Porto in the morning, we made a transfer and found ourselves in Sao Bento.. When I walked in without knowing that this station is even that famous, I officially said, “What a beautiful station this is, look at the craftsmanship and craftsmanship of these tiled walls”. Easy to say, it took 16 years to build, Portuguese history is told all over the wall. But they especially misplaced a tile on the wall because everything was perfect.. “God is the only perfect” is a deliberate mistake made with the philosophy that we shouldn’t be perfect.. Let’s see if you can find it?

The person who built the station spent months trying to find the best one, but in the end he forgot to make a ticket office.. That’s why they added the ticket office later.. After that, whatever artifacts he built, people flocked to see what he forgot Wasn’t it cruel!

2 – Feeling the Touristy in Ribeira Square

Tourist Cafes are lined up by the river, everyone is after taking pictures with the bridge, there is always a rush around.. Yes, it’s too touristy but high energy. This Unesco-listed square awaits you with its synergy with street artists.

3 – Crossing the Dom Luis Bridge on Foot

Taking a boat tour is also a good idea, but Dom I can say that walking over Luis to the Gai side was the most enjoyable of the Porto sightseeing activities.. Considering that this bridge was created by Gustave Eiffel, the creator of the Eiffel Tower.. However, due to timing, this apprenticeship is a work of Eiffel mastery.. By the way, there is also vehicle traffic on the bridge, but there is no problem, it does not spoil your mood.

4 – Exploring the Taste of Port Wine

I hit the road with the dream of port wine, but As someone who likes very strong-tasting wines, I was disappointed with sweet Ports.. Calem and Sandeman are the best known wine tasting places in Gai. Of course, we sipped our wines with the view of the Duoro River and remembered the Porto silhouette.. You will see a cable car there, 10 Euros, I think you should be very ambitious for a short distance.5 – Seeing Se Cathedral and Sao Francisco Church

Wherever you turn your eyes Aliados Square, where you see a historical building, the gothic Se that is Porto Cathedral, Igreja with gold-plated items brought from Brazil. de Sao Francisco. Because I’m sick of seeing a church, I don’t go into them anymore unless I want to, but the reason I want to talk about it is my aim to explain that the streets of Porto are adorned with churches, while there are no religious buildings in Lisbon like classical European cities.

6- Legendary library Entering Livaria Lello and Dreaming of Harry Potter

The legendary library where J.K. Rowling spends most of her time, promises greatness for those who can afford to wait in line for 2 hours.. It’s a pity to pay 5 Euros to get a ticket, it didn’t exist before.. This is the result of popularity.. It would be wonderful to be in that smell of books on wooden stairs, but unfortunately it loses all its mystical side in this crowd.

7 – Taking a Walk on Santa Catarina Street

On this street take a walk, of course, but the main goal should be to see the Capela das Almas church, the photogenic building covered with tiles!

8 – Try Porto’s Most Famous Venue at Majestic Cafe

While we’ve come all the way to Santa Catarina, we decided to go to the most famous place of Porto, Majestic Cafe.. The main reason is that my dearest J.K. Rowling was always hanging out here while writing Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’. The interior does not resemble the dining hall of Hogwarts.. He was already very inspired by these places when he lived in Porto.. The students’ uniforms are capped like our children’s, and the character of Salazar Slyther is inspired by a dictator in Portuguese history.. So it’s all so beautiful! The worst part of the story is so many rows so many rows.. I wish I had gone 10 years ago before it was so popular!

9 – Attending a Concert at Casa da Musica

The first thing we do when we get to the city is the tourist information center. It’s a good idea to stop by and get a map because it’s very enjoyable to look at the map.. When I looked at this, I saw that Casa da Musica is quite out of town, but if we had more time, I might want to attend an event here.

10 – Soares dos Reis National Museum / Visiting the National Museum

If you are a museum lover who will only go to one museum in Porto, it will be the right address for you.. Entrance fee is 5 Euros.

A few notes:

  • Everything like olives and bread brought to the table without asking you is paid.. You can send it back if you wish.
  • The water is very normal and you can find normal non-carbonated drinking water everywhere.. It was even drunk from the tap in our apartment in Porto.
  • Their preserves are so famous, they look so sweet too.. You can buy it from the shops or markets in the center and try it.
  • They have reached outer space in the tile business, they have amazing handcrafted products.. If you’re curious, you can lose yourself while walking around from bench to bench.
