When I was little, my father used to buy crabs caught in their nets from fishermen returning from fishing, boil them, break them with stones, and eat them.. The tastiest part would be the piece in its thickest gripper.. My eyes were always on him. Years passed, SURUMI broke out. Cheap fish are mashed, crab essence is added and red food coloring is applied, or a claw is placed on the end, market aisles and restaurant menus with fancy names such as ocean delight are filled with fake crabs. Surumi, which is frequently used in sushi roll today, turned me off even from crab.
After a long time, I meet again with real crab meat on our San Francisco trip. Especially the Fishermans Wharf area in San Francisco, a real crab paradise. It is possible to experience all kinds of crab from soup to salad, from whole baked crab to pasta, in street vendors and in the most luxurious restaurants.. One of the city’s attractive tourist destinations, the Fog Harbor Fish House on Pier 39 is one of the best in the city for crab. Accompanied by the Alcatraz Island view, the warm oysters we preferred as a starter, followed by the baked crab with butter and garlic feast is the perfect finale for our trip to America.
