Selimiye Mosque

Edirne Selimiye Mosque II. It was built by Selim the Architect Sinan. Architect Sinan built the Mosque, which he calls his masterpiece, at the age of 80, with great mastery. It is written on the inscription on the door of the mosque that its construction started in 1568.

Selimiye Mosque was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011 and today it is the only mosque in the world to be included in the UNESCO list.

The foundation of Selimiye Mosque is 22.73 meters deep. The dome of the mosque is 43.25 meters high and 31.25 meters in diameter, and is placed on a pulley connected to 8 columns. The width of the dome has made the interior quite spacious.

Each of the thin and elegant minarets at the corner of the mosque is 380 cm in diameter with three balconies, and each minaret has a height of 70.89 meters. Another ingenious feature of the work is that those who climb to the balconies of the minarets do not see each other.

It is the only high minaret after the minaret of Kutb-i Mimar Selimiye Mosque in Delhi, India.
