STOCKHOLM TRAVEL GUIDE: PLACES TO SEE IN STOCKHOLM

Stockholm; Sweden’s capital city and also the country’s cultural, artistic, political and economic center. Located at the junction of Lake Mälaren with the Baltic Sea, one third of the city is covered with water, one third is green space and the rest is land.. Stockholm, which is always at the top of the list of the most livable cities in the world; Besides the many islets around it, it is famous for its canals and bridges connecting them.. This is Venice of the North and a cultural capital not only in Scandinavia, but also around the world, with its many museums, galleries and art spaces.

A Chinese proverb said it is better to see once than to hear a thousand times.. We set out, saying it’s time to see Stockholm, which we have been content to listen to for many years.. glad we went. It was October and a little cold. We made the cold air the sun to ourselves, we walked for hours in this beautiful city.. In summary, the city that gives you peace when you remember it not only when you are there, but even after you return.. You are happy when you are walking on the street, watching your children while sitting in the park, and watching the barista while drinking your coffee.. Stockholm is the capital of the part of the world that knows how to be happy while living, and as you breathe in the air of this noble city, you get closer to them with every step.

Gamla Stan

1 Day on Historic Island

14 days a year If you want to go to every corner of the world with permission, you should know how to breathe a city in a short time.. In order to be able to use our 72 hours in Stockholm, which is magnificent in every corner, super efficiently, we decided to take the first step in Gamla Stan.. Gamla Stan, the old center of the city. Hani, the square with those colorful houses that we often see on Instagram.. But it would be a shame to describe my dear Gamla Stan as just that.. Let’s take a tour together.

Gamla Stan

Gamla Stan, a historic island in central Stockholm. Its architecture is ancient, its spirit is new, its feelings are nostalgic.. Gamla Stan region, where the Royal Palace is located, is of course famous for Stortorget Square with the colorful houses we all know.. This is one of the ‘Old Towns’ that we love to visit in European cities.. In this beautiful place where you will want to get lost in the cobblestone streets, there are vintage boutiques, souvenir shops, designer shops and extremely sweet cafes.. Among the places of the historical island that should be included in the list; There is the uniquely sized Royal Palace and Museum (Kungliga Slottet), the Baroque-style Storkyrkan Church and Square, where the royal family weddings are held, and the Nobel Museum, which tells the history of the Nobel Prizes.. Prepare yourself now for the beautiful buildings you will see as you wander around this area.

Gamla Stan, Storkyrkan Church

Gamla Stan is one of the most touristic areas of Stockholm, so it’s not too late to arrive.. You can have a good day by taking your first tour at the Royal Palace in the early morning.. Don’t forget to take a break at one of the Kaffekoppen & Chokladkoppen duo at Stortorget Square, which you will pass through at noon.

Gamla Stan, Nobel Museum

Gamla Stan to Norrmalm

After giving Gamla Stan her due then we pass by the Royal Palace, on a muffled walk, to another nearby area: Norrmalm.. This is the part where offices and business centers are usually located, but there are also really beautiful buildings, houses and museums on Norrmalm streets.. Also, as an interesting feature of its architecture, you can cross the island of Skeppsholmen with a bridge.. You understand much better when you walk past its bridges that my Stockholm is a collection of islands.. We started the Norrmalm tour from Skeppsholmen.. Our first address here is the Moderna Museet, considered one of the best modern art museums in the world.

Moderna Museet

We came here in the afternoon, my suggestion is to come to a large gallery like Moderna Museet in the morning.. Because it is so big, you have to travel fast when time is limited.. In addition to the Swedish modern art collection at the museum, you can also see works by artists such as Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse and Marchel Duchamp.. A legendary gallery.

Skeppsholmen, Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities

If you have time on your way back from Moderna Museet, you can stop by ArkitekturMuseet to the right of the museum and the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities a little bit below.. ArkitekturMuseet; 19. A museum about Swedish architecture from the 19th century to the present. Its target audience is somewhat specific, but on Sundays they organize workshops for children.. The Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities is the address of the collections of China, India, Asia, Japan and Korea in Stockholm.. A good choice for those who are interested in the Far East like me.. On the way down from Moderna to the port, right on the right.

Djurgarden, Port

Have we reached the port, the direction from here is Norrmalm. Among the places to be seen in this region; 16. The Church of Klara, with its 116-meter tower, has been preserved since the 18th century.. There is the Adolf Fredriks Church, which was completed in the 19th century, the National Museum, which includes classical works by international and Swedish artists such as Rembrandt, Goya, Rubens, Goya and Rubens, and the Dance Museum, which stands out with its subject.. My recommendation for those traveling with children is Mini World Stockholm; Here you can sail into the world of toys such as Disney, Barbie and Star Wars.

Djurgarden, Port

While you are in Normalm, is it okay not to stop by Vasastan, which is famous for its second-hand shops? Odenplan and St.. Go carefully to Cosmos Factory, Stockholms Skivbörs and of course The Beat Goes on Records, which are lined up among Eriksplan streets, lose yourself in the vintage designs of the Scandinavian style! Your route after shopping is Vasaparken; You can have a picnic in the park in summer and ice skating in the winter.

Södermalm, Hornsgatan Caddesi

Söder’s Coffee, Öster’s Streets

We started the morning of the second day in Södermalm, the hipster district of the city. Södermalm is famous for its bohemian spirit, design culture and coffee shops dominated by its distinctive yellowish-orange streets.. Söder, the fine arts center of the city with its artists and galleries; According to the Lonely Planet guide, it’s third in Vogue magazine’s list of the ‘coolest regions in the world’.. It is impossible for me to forget the original shops of Hornsgatan Street, the beautiful bakeries around Mariatorget, and the smell of third wave coffee shops; If you happen to be here, be sure to add it to your travel list.

Södermalm, Mariatorget

When the time was short, the taste of the flat white of Drop Coffee Roasters in Söder remained on the palate, we set out to step the streets of Öster properly.. We are a little far from this area until we return to Söder to visit the Fotografiska photo gallery, which is open until 10 pm.

Östermalm, Karlavägen

Östermalm, Stockholm’s creamier home. You can immediately understand this from the architecture of the houses.. Among the museums that show the cultural face of the city, the National History Museum with its Viking past and Renaissance influences, consulates, luxury cafes and restaurants are here again.. There is a peaceful and tree-lined walking path leading to Öster’s streets full of beautiful architecture; Karlavagen. From here, you walk straight in the direction of Norrmalm and you come to the area where the shopping streets are.. Just before you reach the shopping area, you will see the passage called Saluhall, where fresh fish, fruit and vegetables are sold, ideal for a lunch break.

Östermalm

The destination shopping area after the passage. The flagship stores of the best national and global brands you know are always here.. Shopping in Stockholm means Östermalm; but if you like to enjoy the day like us, I invite you to have a glass of wine at the Vau de Ville in the square.

Östermalm, Vau de Ville

Stockholm’s Breathtaking Spot Djurgarden

Take your time We are waiting for those who want to evaluate them in Djurgarden in the afternoon.. For me, this is the breathing point of the city.. Among the places to do and go in Djurgarden, where green meets blue, full of trees and small bridges; There is the magnificent Nordiska Museum with its cultural history archive, the Vasa Museum with the 400-year-old warship Vasa, the Spritmuseum, the museum of alcoholic beverages, the Skansen open-air museum and the fun museum of the Swedish group ABBA we all know.

Djurgerden, Skansen

For those who can spare 1 full day for Djurgarden, the Skeppsholmen we have included before our Norrmalm trip I suggest you do the tour that day as well.. Thus, you can see the island from all sides on the same day.

Tram No:7 passing through Djurgarden is the best way to see the city.

I look forward to other articles for my detailed notes about museums and cafes.. If you have any questions, you can reach us on Instagram.. Traveling with lots of photos already!
