I have been to many countries in the world. I saw many interesting places and places. On my last trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar, I came across the most interesting restaurant of my life: The Rock.. Honestly, it would be wrong to say that I met. Because I always see your photos on the internet, I would say what an interesting place.. When I went to Zanzibar, I went to The Rock and saw this iconic place with the eyes of the world.. The place is at the top of the list of places to visit in Zanzibar.. I think it would be a shame to return to Zanzibar without seeing this place.
The Rock is a restaurant built on a piece of rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean in the Michanwi region of Zanzibar, an island connected to Tanzania on the East African coast. That’s why his name is “The Rock” which means “rock” in English.

Zanzibar’s Finest Restaurant: The Rock and Its Story
The Rock was actually a restaurant until 2010. It’s a fisherman’s shelter. Then a few partners from the tourism world buy it and turn it into a restaurant in July 2010.. One of the main partners of the restaurant is the owner of two tourist resorts, called Kichanga Lodge and Dongwe Ocean.
What makes this place interesting for tourism professionals is its interaction with tide.. The Rock is located in the Michamwi area on the east side of Zanzibar, where the tides are more intense.. The restaurant, which is in the middle of the ocean during high tide, turns into a restaurant that can be reached on foot when the waters recede during low tide.. At high tide, the restaurant can only be reached by boat.
When I visited the restaurant, it was low tide and I walked to The Rock.. There is a hotel around the restaurant.. Apart from that, it is a small village where the local people stay.

A restaurant that has become an icon around the world in a short time, The Rock is a restaurant specializing in seafood. But there are many other options on the menu, from pasta to meat and chicken.

There are only 12 tables in the venue.. It has a very nice panoramic terrace.. The decoration is quite simple but made with a modern taste.

I visited the restaurant in the peak season of the island, like January, and although it was crowded, there was space.. I think you can find a place without making a reservation, but if you say you can’t go all this way and take risks, all the relevant information is above..
It is a fact that The Rock is above the Zanzibar average in terms of prices.. Since I went on a vacation with a limited budget and didn’t think I deserved a romantic meal alone, I reserved this right for later
Where is The Rock Restaurant and How to Get Here?
Well how did i get here The restaurant is located on the east coast of the island, around Pingwe of Michamwi. I was staying in the easternmost Stone Town (also called Zanzibar Town on the maps)) which is the center of the island.. I am also sharing the map with you so that you can visualize it.. The 70 km road takes 1 and a half hours by taxi.. Of course, I didn’t go by taxi.. Because I had to pay at least $40 here.
Instead, my choice was dala dadas, used by locals.. These tools are very economical.. You can also read Zanzibar Metrobus: Dala Dala to get detailed information about the dala dala, which forms the heart of Zanzibar transportation.
To get to The Rock, the dala dala branches to the east side of the island depart. I went to the station. Here I paid 200 Tanzanian shillings (35 cents or $0.09) and arrived at the station where the dala dada leaves for Michamwi. This journey takes about 5 minutes.. Then you get in the car to Michamwi and pay 2,000 Tanzanian Shillings (3.5 TL or 0.9 dollars) and say you will get off at The Rock.. It stays in a place about 2 and a half km before Michamwi, which is the last stop.. There’s a The Rock sign on the road. It is useful to get down there and lubricate the soles towards the beach.. Prepare yourself for an incredible visual show after a 2-3 minute walk.. By the way, on the way back, you can reach Stone Town with Michamwi dala branches without changing any vehicle.. The fee you have to pay for this is 2 thousand shillings.
