Venice and its Treasures

One of the most important structures in Venice is the Basilica of St. Marcos (Bazilica di San Marco). An elegant and magnificent structure with 5 domes of different sizes and 500 columns. A chapel was built for the burial of Saint Marcos, who was abducted from Alexandria to Venice in 830.. In 976, the original wooden church burned down.. Between 1063-1094, it reached its present volume.. For the next 300 years, its exterior was covered with marble and decorated with various statues and figures.

Most of the basilica decorations were brought from the east as war spoils.. One of them is the “4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse” statue overlooking St. Mark’s Square from above on the front of the Basilica.. But of course a replica here. The original is exhibited in the museum inside the basilica so that it is not affected by weather conditions. 13 inside the church. There are Byzantine and Renaissance mosaics from the 19th century.

Behind the Altar in the Basilica is the Golden Panel (Pala d’Oro), one of the most valuable treasures of Christendom . This board is 12. started to be processed in the 14th century,. century took its present form. This panel, on which many scenes from the Bible are processed, is a magnificent panel made of 1,300 pearls, 300 sapphires, 300 emeralds, 400 garnets, 90 amethysts, 75 red rubies, 15 rubies, 4 topazes.. A real treasure beyond the board…

Across the Basilica is St. Mark’s Square, which is said to have been built on 20 thousand piles.. Napoleon called it “The most beautiful guest lounge in the world“. Arched treasury offices built in Renaissance, Baroque and Neo-classical styles are arranged in a U-shape.. Today, these office buildings have been transformed into stylish jewelers, souvenir shops and stylish boutiques.. There are also very nice cafes here.. It is very enjoyable to sit in these cafes and sip our coffee with live music.. After all, this is the most beautiful guest lounge in the world.

The famous Kazanova also had her last coffee here before leaving Venice.. By the way, it is also useful to remind; In Italy, especially in Venice, sitting down to eat and drink in restaurants and cafes is at least twice as expensive as standing up.. That’s why many people prefer to buy their food and drinks and eat standing up.

Drinking our coffees, we pass through the side streets and stylish shops towards the Rialto Bridge.. At the corners of the narrow streets, signs of touristic places to go are hung.

Rialto, the commercial center of the city of Venice, was the heart of the city.. In other words, it is defined as the kitchen or living room of Venice.

The view from the Rialto Bridge is beautiful.. The reflections of the buildings on the canal, the gondolas, the serenade of the gondolier leave a pleasant image in the memories.

Rialto Bridge is a very elegant and elegant marble sloping bridge over the grand canal.. There are small stylish shops on both sides of the bridge.. This bridge used to be a wooden bridge that opened and closed on pontoons.. It took its present form between 1588 and 91.

According to belief, you make a wish and go to the other end of the bridge, while if you don’t speak at all, your wish will come true.. Of course, we made our wish and went to the other end of the bridge.. it was easy for us. But it must be very difficult for Italians who talk a lot.

We are crossing the bridge.. A market has been set up here.. There are various souvenirs, leather shoes, bags, masks, glass objects, as well as pastries and cheese varieties at the stalls on both sides of the road.. Venice’s traditional wine bars are also located in this region.. When we move a little further, we come to the fruit-vegetable and fish market, which is located by the big canal.. Medicinal herbs, asparagus, tiny artichokes and Italian chicory. In the fish market, we see a wide variety of sea creatures, mainly octopus, squid, and oysters.

Also, at the entrance of the great canal, we see the huge customs building ( Dogana di Mare). This building showing the entrance of the great canal, 17. It was a ship checkpoint from the 19th century.

There is also the Santa Maria della Salute church at the entrance of the great canal.. This church is as popular as the St. Marcos Basilica and the Palace of the Dukes. “Salute” means peace and salvation, so this church is called the Church of Peace and Salvation.

In the plague epidemic in 1630, 1/3 of the people lost their lives.. An octagonal church built in gratitude to the Virgin Mary when the epidemic is over. More than 1 million oak piles were driven into the marshy ground in order to build this huge structure.

The first thing that comes to mind when Venice is mentioned is of course “gondolas”.. Today, gondolas have become a tourist attraction rather than a means of transportation.. 11th. used since century. Each of the 1.40 meters wide gondolas is handmade and consists of 280 pieces each.. Now it’s all black and the interior seats are red. Only 12 gondolas are built every year.

I definitely recommend you to take the gondolas, it is a must in Venice.. A little pricey but definitely worth it. It’s even nice to watch the gondolier pass through the narrow canals without bumping into each other and talk to each other.. In fact, if you want to listen to a serenade, you pay for it separately.. We pass under many bridges along the canals. Laundry hanging from tiny balconies and colorful flowers adorn the silhouette of Venice.

There was a house renovation while we were visiting.. In a boat in the canal, the mortar was mixed and brought up.. We found it interesting. The outfits of the gondolier were also interesting.. It’s all in a black and white striped shirt, a white hat with a black ribbon, black pants and shoes.

Not without mentioning the Venice carnival. 18. Carnivals have been held in this city for 6 months from December to June since the 19th century.. Everyone wore black long cloaks, three-horned hats, and white masks and had fun.. Since they were never known with these clothes, the aristocratic class and the people mingled and mingled.. But of course, all kinds of evasion and crimes were committed during this period.. Carnival was banned when things got out of hand.

However, since 1979, it has only been held in February-March and in a controlled manner.. During the carnival, street parties, masquerade balls and various shows attract tourists here.

Since the Venetians think that they are married to the Mediterranean, they organize ceremonies of throwing rings into the sea every year in May to renew their marriage.
