Where Nature and Sea Meet, Kiyikoy

Kıyıköy, formerly known as Mudye, is literally a fishing town where green and blue, nature and sea meet.. Kiyikoy, surrounded by forests, is a town established between two streams; Kazandere on one side and Pabuçdere on the other side empties into the sea. I can say that Thrace’s unique cheerful and warm-blooded people are the reason to go to Kiyikoy, as well as its nature and sea.. The majority of the people living here are immigrants from Thessaloniki; they drink a little too much, they are helpful and funny people. Also, because it is a fishing town, there are places to eat good fish.. Since it is one of the oldest settlements in Thrace, it also has historical places.. In short, in Kiyikoy; forest, fresh air, sea, fine dining and historical places; so there is everything a tourist could want. Well, it’s also close to Istanbul, so what else?

Places to Visit in Kiyikoy

Aya Nikola Monastery

Located on the shore of Pabuçdere, Kiyiköy Aya Nikola Monastery is one of the most beautiful examples of rock monasteries that have survived to the present day.. Unfortunately, it is not well preserved and has been heavily damaged by visitors.. Despite this, I can say that it is a structure worth going and seeing.

Kyikoy Castle

When you arrive in Kiyikoy, you will see the walls remaining from the walls of the castle.. You will enter the center of Kiyikoy by passing through one of the two main gates that have survived until today.. The first construction of the Kıyıköy Castle surrounding the town dates back to approximately 1500 years, of course, it has survived for hundreds of years by undergoing various repairs over time.. It is rumored that this castle was very sheltered and the Ottomans, who had difficulty in occupying it, entered the castle as a result of someone who went down to the sea to get water, forgetting the door open, and captured the castle.. These walls have recently fallen victim to restoration, when you look at the before and after photos below, you will wish that they had never touched them.

Kıyıköy Cave

Kırklareli’s most important tourist attraction One of the hotspots, Kyiköy Cave, is known as Buyuk Kuru Dere by local people.. It is a bit difficult to reach, because it is located 25 meters above the valley floor and on the slope of the flowing water.. Cave butterflies and bats live in it; Although butterflies look good, not everyone likes bats.. Let us remind you that they are still harmless; There is nothing to be afraid of

Kıyıköy Harbor Bath

The Kiyiköy Port Bath, whose construction date cannot be predicted since most of it was lost as a result of the destruction of nature and people, is located under the walls in the south. .

What to do in Kiyikoy?

Sea Bicycle, Canoe and Boat Ride

Many places you can rent for sightseeing on Kazandere and Pabuçdere there is. We preferred to travel by sea bike, it was fine.

Fishing

Instead of strolling, you can catch carp and mullet in Pabuçdere and Kazandere.. Unfortunately, it is worth adding that the number of fish has decreased significantly due to poaching.

Swimming

Even if you know how to swim, the Black Sea cannot be trusted; so you have to be very careful. In addition, the sea of Kiyikoy is not only wavy, but also very cold and deep.. So where do you want to swim? Apart from the beach in the town, you can also try Selvez and Poliçe coves, which are intertwined with nature.

Kyiköy Accommodation

Kıyıköy Camping Area

There are a few camping establishments as well as those who camp on the Aşklar Hill and the beach behind it.. However, you can find much more beautiful places in the forest area around Pabuçdere, there is no prohibition.. However, it is better not to camp in an area too close to the creek, otherwise the Gendarmerie may think that you are fishing illegally.

Pension

Pensions are the most preferred accommodation in Kiyikoy, but hostels in general. neglected. During busy periods such as holidays, people also rent out rooms in their own homes.. Although most people prefer hostels, I do not recommend it.

Kyikoy Hotels

Many new hotels have been built recently and their prices are not very high compared to hostels.. Therefore, if you are not going to camp, it makes more sense to stay at a hotel.

Restaurant and Breakfast Places

Actually, I even thought of skipping places to eat.. Although the following places are the best restaurants you can go to in Kiyikoy, that doesn’t mean they are very good places, so I can’t give any guarantees.. In addition, the arrival of too many tourists caused the tradesmen to deteriorate.. That’s why I don’t know what kind of service you will encounter when you go.

Kıyı Restaurant

A beautiful and clean family run business, Kıyı Restaurant serves both breakfast and dinner. preferable. You will probably be satisfied with the taste and service, but the prices are very high compared to a fishing town.

Balıkçı Yasin Restaurant

The view is amazing, the fish is mediocre and the prices are crazy.. Also, they are very slow in service.

Köşk Restaurant

The view is beautiful, the fish is not bad and it is a clean place. Prices are lower than Istanbul but still expensive. There is no one who goes for breakfast and is not satisfied. If you are going to Köşk Restaurant, go to eat fish and try hot halvah on top of it.

Kıyıköy Park

You may have guessed why I needed to add this park to restaurants.. Because instead of taking a risk and going to a fish restaurant, it may be better to eat toast here under the shade of the trees.. Also, there is no need to look for another place to relax, you can drink your tea in this tea garden located in Kiyikoy square and read your book.

Where is Kiyikoy?

Kiyikoy, which is connected to the Vize district of Kirklareli is located on the Black Sea coast. The distance between Istanbul and Kiyikoy is 160 km.
