How much did an 8-day trip to Zanzibar cost?
Our aim in our trip to Zanzibar, which we planned in August, when the prices are high, was to visit every corner of the island and enjoy the turquoise waters at the same time.. Since we stayed in Kendwa and Stone Town in our previous visit, we chose to stay in different areas this time.. We didn’t go to extreme luxury, but we did seek some comfort.. We did not repeat most of the activities we did on our first visit, so the popular activities of the island such as Prison Island tour, spice tour are not included in the total price.. Zanzibar Travel Cost #1 Flight Tickets
As in every trip to a country outside the European continent, the biggest expense item in this trip is plane tickets.. As I mentioned in the Zanzibar Travel Guide>, there are different alternatives to reach the island of Zanzibar.. We used the option of using the ferryboat from Dar es Salaam on our first trip, and flew directly from Dar es Salaam to Istanbul on our return.. On this visit, we preferred to go directly to the island by plane.. If you don’t have any intention of safari in Tanzania, flying directly to the island is both more comfortable and safer.
We bought our plane tickets from FlyDubai, which has become our favorite in the last year, and we went from Bahrain. We had some advantage for. We paid $596 all inclusive for a round trip flight ticket from Bahrain via Dubai. It will vary depending on the period you will be traveling to, but you can also find connecting flights of FlyDubai or Oman Air departing from Istanbul for around $600 per person.. However, if you want to go non-stop or keep the waiting time between two flights to a minimum, the figure goes up to $1000 and above.
Zanzibar Trip Cost #2 Transportation on the Island
You can’t see anywhere in Zanzibar, just take a trip on the beach where you are. If you intend to take a sea vacation, you can scratch another important item in the budget.. But while you’re here, I don’t recommend you just spend time in the hotel and its surroundings.. The transportation alternative you choose to explore the island will seriously affect your budget.
We preferred to rent a car because we wanted to see every corner of the island during our 8-day trip.. Zanzibar Excursion Cost #3 Accommodation
If the place you stay is not important, the room price per night in Zanzibar is $15 You can find a bungalow – hotel, but you have to be ready for all kinds of mishaps and deficiencies.. While encountering situations that make you feel like you are in Africa even in a high-star hotel, problems will be inevitable in cheap hotels.
We stayed in a small bungalow at Promised Land Lodge in Kizimkazi for four nights. We paid about $50 per night for two people including breakfast. For our other four nights, we paid $168 per night including breakfast at Mchanga Beach Resort as we sought a little more peace and comfort.. The nightly rates of the hotels I wrote vary according to the season, the day we choose and even the opportunity days on Booking.com.. For example, while I was writing this article, I saw the price of Mchanga Beach Resort as $108 per night.. The price scale of other hotels according to the region and types is as follows:. Zanzibar Travel Cost #4 Food and Drink
The money you will spend on food and drink in Zanzibar also varies a lot depending on the place you choose.. Because my stomach is sensitive, I can’t choose street food or food from very extreme local restaurants.. If you prefer street food, your food expenses will decrease significantly.. Our biggest expense in eating and drinking was alcoholic beverages.. Since the cocktails are made from the fresh tropical fruits of the island, we often preferred to drink cocktails.. Our beer did not fall from our hands due to the effect of our arrival from Bahrain.. Since we are also very fond of seafood, we generally made preferences for this in restaurants.. In addition, since it is not possible for us to spend a day without coffee, we also spent coffee at a coffee shop we came across every day.. So don’t be intimidated by our total food cost.. Zanzibar Travel Cost #5 Activities

As you can do all of these activities, it is also among your options to return without doing any of them.. Prices vary a lot depending on how you arrange transportation and your bargaining ability.. That’s why I added the phrase “fixed” next to the non-negotiable prices in the list below.. All prices in our expenses section are for two people.
Zanzibar Travel Cost #5 Other
In this item, I have listed minor expenses that I could not put into any category.. We didn’t do much souvenir shopping as we came with a small suitcase.. When calculating your budget for Zanzibar, you should also consider unpredictable expenses.. For example, we were ripped off when buying a SIM Card, but we didn’t realize it, we gave an extra $18. In addition to the tips at restaurants, you are expected to tip the guide $3-5 on tours.. If you are staying at a luxury hotel, it would be appropriate to tip the hotel staff.
